- Draw loose is relaxing and fun. In this video, I do my best to explain how I think in order to sketch loose and also reveal a few ways I go about it. Have fun watching!

I love your loose drawings and I love expressive art in general. I vastly prefer it to realism. If you can take a photo of something, or if AI can generate it, why even bother. The hand of an artist is not meant to be a mechanical device. The way you capture things on paper holds such charm! it's like you take us with you into your magical whimsical world. I will never get bored of looking at that. There are no mistakes in your drawings. They are perfect just the way they are.
You find the beauty in the imperfect:) yes I prefer these to realism too. So much more fun and surprising. And there is still so much to learn from all the amazing illustrators out there.
At the same time, I’m also presently being open to getting those classical fundamental styles perfected. I think learning from various disciplines would open more pathways I’ve never seen before. More possibilities:)
Hmm I wonder… maybe Ai would be able to generate loose art too. 😂
I so agree!
Exactly ! Well said.
Best comment!
the tools you shared can create such cool effects! it’s fun watching you use them :D
Thanks! They are fun!:)
NICE!
I try to teach myself or to challenge myself to make loose sketches. But it's so hard for me. I guess that it is more about psychology than about drawing. Maybe watching your videos will help me 🙏🏻
Yes I think it’s about adjusting the mindset. Try and see how it goes:)
You just earned a new sub! Love this
I am so so so envious...❤
Hahaha and that’s why I do these videos- So you can do the same or better:)
You have inspired me, thank you!
You are so welcome!
at 5:23 looks like a delicious pastry, made me hungry! I enjoyed the video, and also push my self to draw more loosely at times
Haha your comment made me hungry for pastry. And I ate a Miele crepe.
Love it, good work
Thank you! Cheers!
I really wish I could do this
cool brush, would love to see you make an video of your fav art supplies
I’d love that too. I have so many. Where do I start?😅😅😅
Love the the way you draw loose but with confidence and right proportions, you still though capturing the big picture in each painting! So Impressive! 😍
you encourage me to try more Loose style with considerable effort to perspective/proportion not perfection.
Your tips were so relaxing for busy parents/artists.
Thank you that was helpful 🌸
Thanks for your note:) yeah juggling life, kids and art! Gosh!😂
This is such beautiful, thought provoking and helpful insight. I do not draw or paint, but look forward to applying this video’s lessons to music making. Thank you!
Thank you:) yes I believe that it is all related. There are drawings that are like classical music. Everything is just right and beautiful. I see loose drawings as jazz! Haha Lots of improv.
I absolutely love your loose drawings- it is very refreshing and something about it makes me feel happy. Thanks for sharing your tips and supplies too. What type of paper do you typically use?
I'm happy it makes you feel happy:) I went to the paper supplier and got a few papers that can take light washes. Mostly, I use Tangerine White 140gsm and Ambassador Wove Vellum 200gsm. I bought those in bulk. But there are lots of sketchbooks from an art store that will work just fine too:)
Great video, thank you!
love those vario lines!
How to draw loose? It’s infectious.. hang around those that do
Yeah! Good point. Yes hanging around those who do it too is infectious. Plus ppl always do it differently so there is much to learn. With kids, I don’t hang out much but I do have lots of books with loose illustrations to learn from, starting with Quentin Blake:)
Thank you! I have foolishly tried to unlearn my naturally loose art style, and now I’m trying to get back into it. So I appreciate advice like this. ❤
You’re welcome! A loose style is pretty fun. But at times I try to do a tighter style too, so I can have the elasticity. Does it need to be one or the other? For me, I think, why not learn both? Though by default, I do prefer the relaxed looser style:)
Learning to sketch loose was the best thing for me. Got me sketching a whole lot more :)
I’d say me too! :)
I love seeing you create loose sketches on location in your area, thank you. My fav brushes are the ruined ones. Love how you use colour, then add lines, skillful!
Ruined brushes hahayes. I think I will look for more of those brushes and see what they produce😄
Not only is the line work great but the colors and how you apply them are great! Good job, quality video!
Thanks for the encouragement:)
Beautiful!
I just watched this and needed to try it. What I did was to create loose guidelines with a light marker, then redo the lines with a brush pen, holding it loosely at the end, as you said. Then add a base color with markers and adding the finishing touches with loose color pencils. I really liked the result.
I tried this with some flowers, so I want to try it again with something more complex
Wish I could see it:) sounds like you are having fun with it:)
Such a fun video. I love the tools you showed, makes you think how it fun it would be to draw with almost anything at all.
Yes, by just some focusing on some key principles, I find I can pretty much draw anything. Art tools do make it more fun though!:)
AHHHH I LOVE YOUR THUMBNAIL
Haha thanks. That was done really quickly when I had left over paint on my brush that day. And I must say, it turned out more interesting than my other drawings that took longer! Sometimes thinking less is better maybe haha😅
This is great advice
Thanks for sharing!
I should try alcohol.
I really like loose drawings, yours are great
A loose drawing lover hi-5✋🎉
Hi-5 ✋😊@@Drewscape-art
I found out people love my imperfect art, some staff I did and I never even like it, it’s very intriguing
Haha nice!
Time for me to get loose!! Have been too tied up about painting perfectly..
Haha Kenneth, your style is loose already
Awesome!
Ooo, i love the marks with the vario brush! Ive got some old brushes that looks like that, that im gonna try now, thanks!
Ive been training myself for a year or so from unfun, soul-destroying perfection to mistake-welcoming loose and expressive.
Its the best feeling when i make a mistake and im 100% cool with it and immediately move on.
That’s awesome. Your comment makes me smile:)
Just found your wonderful channel! Love your work and your approach to your drawing/painting. I use my non dominant hand, and that definitely does the trick!
Oh yes! Using the non-dominant hand is another nice way for losing control. Been a long time since I tried that. I should give it a go again and see how it feels:) thanks!
This was helpful. Thanks 😊
Awesome. Happy drawing!:)
What paper did you used???
Hi, I use a variety of paper from paper suppliers. I used Munken as well as Ambassador Wove Vellum 200gsm. But I’m not picky. A lot of paper from the art shops that can take light washes will do. can just experiment and see what works for the mediums you like to use:) but I find there isn’t really a right or wrong, just what results you enjoy seeing:)
The part with your friend... 😅
Very good suggestions! Im gonna try them! 😊
Great video, thank you!😊❤
You are so welcome!
I use my six year old son to draw on my behalf. Easiest way to stay loose. I'm a big fan of loose art and a big fan of your content!
An interesting solution!😂
i really loved this video your work is amazing i'm so inspired waw
Hope it inspired you to draw more:)
