The use of Materials Charts developed by M. Ashby allows students and professionals the selection of materials in different applications, depending on both the characteristic of the problem or application, and the goal of the design optimization, such as minimum weight, minimum cost or maximum energy efficiency. This method is based on mathematical procedures to enhance the design process, independently from the experience of the persons involved
