I as a dolphins fan am pissed. We lost a 1st round and 1.75 million. Arthur has more pull obviously. As well as Philadelphia last year and most years
CBS did some actual journalism unlike this guy. Dolphins ACTUALLY tampered. Not logistically
Comparing the two situations is absurd. What the Dolphins did was FAR worse. Twice they tried to lure Brady to Miami WEEKS before Brady’s contract with the New England Patriots was set to expire and not during the legal tampering period and not with those other teams’ consent. Ross (who was in the front office) even went so far as to set up an in-person meeting between Flores and Brady on a private yacht in the winter of 2020. They did it again when Brady was still with the Bucs….while he was on contract with 2 different teams over a period of 2 years.
Kirk talked with the head athletic trainer as he wanted continuity in his treatment with rehabbing his injury. The other two talked to the Falcons about travel plans. The tampering had nothing to do with contract negotiations so the punishment was far less.
This whole thing was so overblown. Good news for both the Falcons and Eagles fans. Cry about it, Florio!

**The key point here is that tampering has to do with contract negotiations.** With the Falcons, the tampering had nothing to do with contract negotiations. Per the NFL, it was all related to travel / logistical matters, like Kirk talking with the head athletic trainer about continuity in his rehab treatment before he was supposed to which is why punishment is less.
all 3 players already had connections to Atlanta except mooney and he had connections to Alabama so they was probably already in the area and i honestly do not believe they tampered with all 3 players kirks beennin the league a long time for him to overlook it enough to bring it up in the press conference says that he thought it was not tampering

It's just different when the player's current team doesn't have any interest in re-signing him. The Giants had zero interest in retaining Barkley, and the Vikings had zero interest in retaining Cousins. So whatever tampering happened honestly wasn't a big deal because those teams didn't even want these guys. Maybe that shouldn't matter when it comes to how the rules are enforced ... but it does matter.

The NFL would be better off not having any rules about tampering than the crazy way they’ve been applying those rules, where they punish some teams hard but let other teams slide. I don’t blame the Falcons for using their CEO’s position of power to get themselves a slap on the wrist. They’re just looking after their own interests.
CEO McKay is the chairman of the competition committee which "reviews the competitive aspects of NFL football and propose new rules and rule changes." They don't do anything with punishments.

The Falcons’ slap on the wrist probably has a lot to do with the fact that McKay is well-connected at the League Office. Tampering should be allowed. Any team should be allowed to speak to any player whenever they want. But if you have rules, it’s really important not to play favorites when you apply them.

If $300K and a 5th round pick is all you need to give up, tampering will run rampant going forward. The tampering rules are in place to give ALL teams a fair opportunity to sign a free agent. How many teams were unable to have an opportunity to pursue KC? The NFL needs to tighten this up.

Florio using the Dolphins tampering case as a precedent strikes me as odd. The only reason that the NFL investigated that was because it was part of the Brian Flores lawsuit. So the NFL had to investigate and make it look good. Florio said at the time that 99% of all tampering is ignored by the league. He then gave the example, "you think that the Broncos weren't talking to Russell Wilson before he signed". Florio also pointed to then Tampa Coach Bruce Airens answering a question from the press about pursuing Tom Brady. Because it was before free agency, Airens answer would be considered tampering by league rules. It sounds like the league went back to ignoring it. Also come on, you think players aren't talking to each other? That's going to be the hardest to prove. Seems obvious to me that because the tampering affected his (Florio) favorite team, he wants heads to roll or because he was so sure he had it right that he has to save face by saying the league is full of it. He says he's going to get to the bottom of this. Good luck. Who's going to talk to him?

It is the word tampering, if the agent is talking to both parties, communicates what the other team is offering. The team says we will not even match the money/years/guarantee period, the end of negotiations are over, there may be emails to this effect. The definition tampering with a dead negotiation is different, these are not laws, but rules left up to the league to play with. The deflate gate is cheating, close to shaving points that may have affected the outcome or effort in a game, vs this rule which is a discretionary call based on how the player movement or contract were affected, I suspect they came to the conclusion, with evidence, it had 0 affect. I think they weigh the timing and affect, early in negotiation you might assume the player might have signed if he was given a serious offer, you give that a 5 out of 5, after the team has definitively rejected matching the other teams offer is given a 1 out of 5 on impact.
Cousins wife is from the Atlanta area and I believe the other two players are from Georgia not sure why the Falcons would talk to the players about travel

I strolled youtube looking for Florio as soon as i head the results i commented on a previous video that kirk mispoke and it wasnt as big as florio was making it out to be look kirks a saint ,rich mccay is on the board and we had a whole lot of new coaching staff they was not fixing to tamper blatantly (more than any other team does)
Proper punishment in any case where picks have been forfeited should not be to forfeit picks. It should be to send them to the last pick of each round. Taking picks away hurts potential draft picks but imagine being forced to pick last in the first round or multiple rounds in the draft.
You should get it right and the players contacted them about the traveling arrangements bc why would they contact the players about traveling arrangements when they know the rules for not talking with players before the tampering period.
The Falcons already gave themselves a self-imposed waste of a First Round pick this year.

The 49ers didn't lose two picks. They only lost one. The other one was downgraded by four spots. It was second offense which made the punishment more severe i would guess.

Actually.....all the Vikings / Vikings GM had to to do was sign Kirk to a long term deal which he never did after he was hired. It's pretty obvious that he wanted his own quarterback in the draft. Kirk even offered to take less for a three year deal and the Vikings GM still said no.
