This song fills me with an incredible sense of wonder. What must it have been like for that first fully conscious human? The idea of consciousness "switching on" is a sublime and powerful one.
According to Jon the lyrics of this song are connected to Julian Jaynes Bicameral Mind Theory, a theory which states that ancient humans experienced communication between the left and right cortex through a series of auditory hallucinations that directed that persons actions. According to this hypothesis ancient humans lacked the self aware analysis of modern human thoughts. Within the white matter of our human brains these ancient hallucinations lie dormant. There is someone in the white matter. I could not help but also feel a connection to the psychedelic experience when listening to this song and reading its lyrics. During a psychedelic experience the ancient dormant parts of your brain become active and cause you to hallucinate. The hallucinations are more akin to distortions, it is possible to have auditory hallucinations on psychedelic drugs but it is more likely that the sounds you normally hear will become distorted and changed immensely. One of the most common distortions for me when taking LSD is hearing certain things in reverse. This often happens when I am listening to music. Definitely going to listen to this song the next time i have a psychedelic experience.
As someone who's had a psychotic/psychedelic/religious experience about a year ago (that to my psychonaut friends sounded like 2 weeks of LSD when I told them about it: I was put away in a care centre- so I had to explain my absence) I didn't know about it (except intuitively, I wanted to talk to the other me- and kept pestering him to use the circuits that every mad person uses to hear voices to talk to me) until I read your comment but now I think I subscribe to the bicameral mind theory. I truly believe there is two in me. There's me, the conscious mind and the homo sapiens body that is my host. And is it a coincidence that my musical ability has massively increased since that? Idk, but I feel like I "hear" the muse a lot more now. A lot of EE lyrics (and one specific Devin Townsend album) have become a lot more important since that experience. Thanks for your introducing me to bicameralism Dr Gonzo
@@pdsm1552 Very interesting comment, I am having a little bit of trouble understanding how you had your spiritual experience. I should mention that even though I understand bicameralism I do not fully believe in it. If you really want to understand more about your mind I would recommend reading the work of C.G. Jung or just watching content that discusses his work. Jung was one of the first modern psychiatrists, he experienced visions and spiritual encounters due to schizophrenia. He was so smart and such an incredible visionary that he analyzed these visions and determined that the human mind is deeply symbolic in nature. According to Jung the human mind was divided into three parts, the Persona/Ego, the personal unconscious, and the collective unconscious. The ide athat the beings are unified by sharing consciousness felt extremely profound to me and is something I really do believe in.

I listen to a lot of music. Many wildly different genres, dozens of artists, old and new. I love so much of it! Every time period and every genre has its own gems, but there's just something special to me about Everything Everything that transcends the experience of hearing sounds and words. It's thought provoking, philosophical, visceral, visual and a stark confrontation with the grit and indifference of reality and humanity in general. Truly artful and awe inspiring. This kind of creativity gives me hope for humanity. I get that this all sounds extremely hyperbolic and overexaggerated, but I'm genuinely trying to put into words what I feel. Thanks for Everything you do

Music is profound, isn’t it? I know NOTHING about this band, except for how I learned about them. I’m looking forward to whatever they have to offer. It seems like they’re well-worth the hype.
Beware this is pretty different to what they’ve done in the past. I think this is closest to Arc, but keep an eye out, they’ll be releasing more singles soon.
Funny enough I was watching this video for the second time and I thought about how we are living on hold. The world is in a frozen state. Life's on an apocalyptic pause, plans are suspended and that's exactly what I get from the video, together with the insignificance and smallness of our surroundings. And it hit me even harder this time.
Stunning. Perhaps coming off the back of bicameral mind theory this song seems to me like a lament for mankind missing his 'godmouth' and realising he was alone all along
The goosebumps from this song WOW . Must have heard it over 30 times now and it still gives me tingles. I feel like I should be standing in the rain at night chilling to this song or sitting in an empty field.
Something about their music and Jons style of singing makes my brain have to rewire itself and reset. I can't fathom how they keep creating such innovative sounds.
The more I keep going back to this song/video, the more uneasy but also grateful for life I am. There are so many dead bodies in the landscape and frozen shots of people being blown apart. But the part with the old man that survived all the pain while standing in appreciation of it's beauty.... my god.
