"In order to dispel common misbeliefs regarding Klingons, Gowron (Robert O''Reilly) creates a holodeck 'immersion studies' program to teach humans about his people's culture.
The player assumes the role of Pok, a young Klingon about to undergo the Rite of Ascension. The celebration is interrupted, however, when Pok's father is killed during an assassination attempt on Gowron's life. Gowron and Pok then swear a blood oath to find the killers and bring them to honorable justice"
Much like the previous Star Trek: Borg FMV game, I have deliberately made the wrong choices before the correct choice in order to show all the different fail videos. If there are more than 2 at a decision point I will usually cut out the lengthy lead up video to make it all a bit more bearable.
The game is quite short compared to the previous game. Unfortunately, their are no subtitles so I cant help with translating what Gowron is saying in the intro. The game also allows pausing the video in order to click on random objects and learn about it. I don't do this to often as it doesn't really mean much in regards to telling the games story.
The game looks really grainy through the game software video player. The games video files do suffer from a lot of macroblocking anyway and are stored in 320x200 15fps but do playback in slightly better quality than the game portrays. I uploaded the main video track to youtube long ago which you can easily find. -

While in the Borg game it’s fun to select the wrong choices to see John De Lancie go hogwild, I love how in the Klingon game allows all the actors multiple opportunities to demean you.
Compared to Sesame Street's Make a Word cast calling on wrong decisions, the Klingons are strict on wrong decisions.

This is missing a scene where you can choose no weapon at the end and then 'fight' with your hands. The response from Gowron is funny.

I love the indecisiveness reactions of this game.
I own this. I bought it when it was released. I could never get past the bomb. You only had three tries and then the disc started completely over. It was bullshit. Seeing it now, I NEVER would have gotten it: pressing blue three times in a row. Maybe if I had called the 1-900 number and paid $1.99 a minute, I could have learned it. It makes me happy to finally see the end of this game. Thank you very much!
When I was 10, there was a game, "Star Trek: 20th Anniversary" on DOS. (Yeah, this goes *way* back!) I couldn't get past some parts, so I called their hintline. Three weeks later, the phone bill came in. $80. I had spent most of the winter working off that debt.

It entertained me on a Saturday night, of poor terrestrial television.
I loved this game back in the 90's Still own it but sadly it won't play on today's systems.
So "Ka Plaque" to he who loaded this Klingon history for us all to enjoy.
now it does kind of work when you use Dosbox-X and install Windows 3.11 in it.
1:30:40 Probably the most brutal consequence for making a wrong choice... where it literally sends back and you have to play most of the game again as a result.
It's almost worth seeing Gowron's face at 1:30:47 though

51:35 - There's a second missing scene here. You can choose to take the knife and die for it. Gowron then informs you that by picking up a weapon, you turned the challenge into a battle to the death.

50:36 - Missed death here. If you try to take his knife, he'll grab it from you and stab you with it. Gowron will then give you a hilarious speech about how you "show courage . . . but not much sense."

Gowron.... was the BEST klingon out out of ANYONE. Christopher Lloyd did a kick ass job but Gowron..... pulled so much more "character" out of his "character" that nobody else could touch. That touch of "crazy" that wasn't "crazy"... they are ALL "crazy" but his crazy was one of those that you would be afraid to go to sleep at at night if his ship was even in the same quadrant because he "might" get the urge to "sneak" on YOUR ship and watch you sleep till you woke up and SEEN him watching you just before your DEAD! lol. His eyes say just as much as his mouth does.... the guy was just above and beyond.
This was my favorite out of a the "movie games" they did... And I remember it came with a awesome "bonus" too..,. along with the game.... It was one of the first early versions of "speech recognition" and you learned "Klingon Language" using it. When you say the word or phrase in the mic it would rate your accuracy..... was some neat shit that was ahead of its time.... they had it on that game before I ever seen a voice recognition... even a shitty one show up as an application.
Man.... I totally Miss STAR TREK.... because the shit they are putting out now..... is NOT Star Trek anymore... Rodenberry would roll over in his GRAVE if he seen what they have done to his "vision" that he always "upgraded" through the years but never strayed from the "Star Trek" ideology and vision he had for it.... Soon as he died..... it turned into just another action/drama/shoot shit up flicks that everyone ELSE always does....
I think the woman's voice is actually his wife.... she played as the "computer voice" for most.... if not all them.

I started watching the video in the intent of finding out the placement of this game in the Star Trek timeline I am working on.
However, it soon became apparent that, in order to understand the story fully, I would require the assistance of a more seasoned Trekkie.
One of those who, if the stories are to be believed, actually understand (and even speak) the Klingon Langage.
My only hope now is to leave this comment (on a video which receives an average of 20 comments *per year*) and -wait- hope for an answer...

It has been 8 standard months since my last entry. However, in the intervening time (and to my own surprise) the Star Wars fan in me has resurfaced and my timeline project for Star Trek is not looking like it is going to make progress any time soon.
If there's anyone out there who speaks Klingon, a translation of this video would still be appreciated (eventually).

This was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the comprehensive missteps and the general story. I kind of wished this was more a "choose your own adventure" type game instead of a "fuck up until you get it right" scenario, but honestly, the holodeck format lended itself to that method and it made a decent story in the TNG universe. I've spent an hour and half on WAY less entertaining movies.

Could you imagine if they had made a Star Trek Klingon TV show, back in the TNG era, when the producers and writers didn't completely suck. And Gene's vision hadn't been entirely Sh!t on by untalented writers hoping to "Subvert" expectations and "Deconstruct" the story--What ordinary people call bastardizing the work of more talented writers and ruining your own product in the process.. Also that dude at 4:18 just headbutted the guy so hard he broke his forehead make-up and caved it in.

Sounds nothing like them.
So many really bad FMV games came out in the 90s. Some so bad that they were hilarious, others just plain bad and boring, and then the Star Trek ones which combined Star Trek lore, a mix of good and bad acting, and an overall fun experience. While neither this one or Borg would make a favorite games list for me, both were enjoyable and immersive. I keep a specific computer around for a few titles, including Borg, Klingon and a few others, given the difficulty in playing and recording them.
I miss the ST role playing games.

I must admit I don't understand something at the end when the uncle was accused of the murder. How does a fight prove innocence?
Such a "Trial by Combat" was a martial duel as a decider or test of innocence. It was a common method of deciding the truth of a matter in human history, particularly in "warrior" races from Europe. From Wikipedia: "Trial by combat (also wager of battle, trial by battle or judicial duel) was a method of Germanic law to settle accusations in the absence of witnesses or a confession in which two parties in dispute fought in single combat; the winner of the fight was proclaimed to be right. In essence, it was a judicially sanctioned duel. It remained in use throughout the European Middle Ages, gradually disappearing in the course of the 16th century." The Klingon aesthetic naturally draws on this. The idea is that there is much "chance" in single combat and the "gods" or "God" would support the noble combatant and ensure justice would prevail.

Wow, the Klingon Opera scene must be flooded with mediocre crap. How would one know where to start looking for the great songs of glory if every time someone from their race died a warrior's death they wrote an opera about it?
Think of Klingon culture in terms of Feudal Europe. In Medieval/Renaissance Europe, operas written for the ruling house were always masterpieces that lasted at least 5 hours, while songs commissioned by aristocracy were minstrel ballads that lasted no more than 10 minutes.

Romulan Ale is not lethal to Romulans, Humans, or Ferrengi - the drink he was drinking (Nectine?) was lethal to those races and even to Klingons who drank it too quickly - Nectine is obviously stronger than Romulan Ale.
