Don't agree comment below. Love your channel and it is ok to be influenced by others and this community is about sharing how we do things. I am an old dog and you are teaching me new tricks 😆 I tried to make powdered sugar with the evaporated cane sugar it didn't work. Now I know what I was doing wrong. Thanks!!!! I didn't start homesteading until I was 50. Wish I had done it sooner!!! I did homeschool and tried to do some stuff in our urban home. Now have a a few acres and living my best life. You are so blessed to be able to when your kids are young
You are so delightful! I ran across your videos by happy accident! Needless to say, I am now a follower😊 I love that you are teaching the younger generation food stewardship. I can't help thinking that our current health problems stem from packaged convince foods. I wish I had prioritized clean eating earlier in life. But....now there are beautiful souls like you...leading the way to a healthier, happier and more purposeful lifesyle! Thank you for all you do!
I do these if I'm out of store bought. I hadn't considered just making batches myself. 🙄 don't know why that hadn't occurred to me before now 🤷♀️😆 I love molasses. When I'm feeling bad or just not feeling up to snuff (as my granny used to say) I love a cup of warm milk with molasses. Granny and mommy used to make it for me since I was a little girl. When my mom was a child back in the 1930s molasses was considered a tonic for small or sickly children because it contains lots of healthy vitamins & minerals. So warm molasses milk is my comfort food(drink) go to when I feel run down.
I knew the health benefits of molasses (learned about it when I was low in iron while pregnant), but I never thought of mixing it into warm milk. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
I put my sugar in a gallon ziploc bag with the molasses & work it with my hands for a few minutes...As you, I don't worry about getting each small clump of molasses...I just started to follow you...store bought brown sugar gets hard real fast....I will try your mixes since I am an old dog trying to do things again from scratch...we got too lazy with all the conveniences....going back to the 50's & 60's way of doing things....
I fats fingered my comment about shifting in to darken my batter. My kitchen doesn't have a stand mixer or fancy blender or grinder. We bought a condo during the lockdown and furnished it with used appliances and thrift purchases over the last 3 years I acquired a $5 hand mixer and a small food processor to augment the 40-year old stove and toaster oven.I do have a cuisineart multipurpose slow cooker big enough to cook a roaster I can brown too.I envy your hens, but we have no land just a concrete patio. Rosemary over winters here, and next month I all try to get my basil and maybe thyme growing.
I haven't attempted powdered sugar yet because i don't own a blender. I'm not sure my processor would grind it up fine enough. But that is next on my list of things to do.....I haven't bought brown sugar in over 5 years :) Feels good.
I do have the Vitamix dry container. It was definitely getting bogged down on the powdered sugar, which is why I ended up separating it into two batches. I don't need to be so overambitious next time LOL.
I just discovered this channel. Wow. Any tips on how I can convince my wife to do this? I’ve always wanted to homestead and we are just getting into it.
Same. Been telling my husband for years and years that we need to start binge watching more self sufficient so we could at least have a big head start in case SHTF! I’ve been getting more and more nervous as of late because of the terrible predicament the US is in. Just not getting though to him. 🤬
Welcome to the channel! And congrats on getting started-it's a rewarding journey! Are you a believer? Pray for your wife. Then perhaps start with projects like in this video - making your own sugars, making your own pantry mixes, learning how to dehydrate or can. All of these provide both money savings & the benefits of knowing exactly what's in your food. Hope that helps!
You make enough of those products that you need to make a long-stemmed tamper to press sugars or whatever into the jars. Would be easy enough to make with a round piece of wood or metal and a chopstick. Just an idea.
What brand of sugar is best to buy.. Can you vacum seal it to make it last longer? I was looking on Amazon for a vacum sealer like yours. Im just starting and i don't use as much as you. Im a little hard of hearing. And my phone not great on sound. Can you link with ingredients.
You don’t want to vacuum seal sugar as it can turn hard like a brick. We buy the Zulka cane sugar from Walmart. We have a website where many of our videos are published in written form, which might be helpful to you. Here’s our blog post for how to make these homemade sugars - foodprepguide.com/how-to-turn-white-sugar-into-brown-and-powdered-sugar/ Hope that helps! 🙂
I love your videos, and I have a question. I am new to prepping and have been serious for two years. I have two 5lb bags of white sugar in my pantry that have turned into a rock because I didn't store them properly. What can I do? I hate to throw them out.
You can actually heat sugar in your oven to soften it up. Just set the temperature as low as your oven will go (usually around the 175 degree F range), and heat the sugar in a casserole dish for 15 minutes or so. You should be able to break it up like with a fork something at this point. Let it cool completely before repackaging. :)
Put an apple slice into it. Keeps it from getting hard in the first place too... (at least brown sugar, that I have tried. Never had this problem with white sugar, but don't see why that shouldn't work...)
I imagine you could, but the amount would be different. I'm not experienced with using Splenda, so I'm not sure what the amount would be. Wish I could be of more help!
@@foodprepguide That's how we all learn and help each other! I'm older and have learned SO much by watching other people on TH-cam videos!! Love your videos. Great job!!
I think it’s worth it! And how lazy do you have to be to just quickly wash and rinse a blender container? 🙄 Oh, and maybe have to wipe your countertops off, which you automatically do every time you clean your kitchen! At least most of us do.

She shows her children and husband. Do you know how many homesteaders pretty much have the same story and “dialogue” as you so graciously put it? All of these younger generations of homesteaders are amazing and they work very hard to give their families a hope of survival should SHTF. You know what else? I bet the gracious, Godly Miss Lori wouldn’t be upset one little bit if this beautiful young lady used her intro word for word! But she didn’t! If you only troll these giving families that try to teach others traditions that will more than likely save their lives one day just to make rude remarks you are a “special” kind of person.

Omg I’ve been waiting for the brown sugar recipe- it is hard to find in Germany and when you do it is very €€€ …..
OMG powdered sugar BONUS !!!!
I had to "pause" a recipe because I had no brown sugar. Thanks to you, never again!
I found this fascinating, thank you so much.

I think if you use the whisking beater, it has much less chunks left behind. Much better blended in.
I’ll use that one next time. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
I put sugar in my coffee grinder to make powdered sugar. Works great!
That's awesome!

Love thrifting. ❤️ Have fun with your herb growing! 🌿 I’m about to start some more myself.
8 Tbsp is equal to 1/2 cup
I am SO glad that I watched this video! Okay, I am going to write these recipes down and start making my own light, dark, and powdered sugars!
Awesome! Welcome to the channel! 👋😊

Thank you… I didn’t know about the cornstarch. I will definitely do it that way next time.
I do the same but i found using the whisk i don't have the trouble with sticking and clumping.thank you.
Wonderful! I'll try the whisk next time. Thank you for the tip. :)
Great video. Learn something new each day. And I just did. Thanks. I’ll have to try that for powered sugar.
Glad it was helpful!

Where do you purchase your molasses from? I would like to get a big container of molasses like that.
Azure Standard 🙂 - www.azurestandard.com/?a_aid=b9b2e9c1b6
You might want to get the dry container that goes with the vita mix. Sounds like your motor is dragging.

Where do get your black labels ???
Mine came in a kit that's no longer sold, but these are very similar - amzn.to/4aEZxM0

, where do you purchase the large yarrow root & black strap molasses. As well as rhe basil. Thank you.
We purchase these items in bulk from Azure Standard: www.azurestandard.com/?a_aid=b9b2e9c1b6
And we grow the basil. :)
@@foodprepguide Thank you 💖
try it with the whisk attachment for brown sugar
I will. Thank you! :)
Mixing in molasses is easier if you put on some gloves and mix by hand!🎉
I’ll have to try that next time! Thank you for that tip. 🙂

You probably already know this, LOL, but 4 tablespoons equals 1/4 cup. Would make measuring your molasses much easier.
You know ... I didn't even think about that LOL. So thank you!

Does the brown sugar get hard
It can but it takes a long time to start hardening. We don’t vacuum seal it because it’ll turn into a brick.

I use only organic sugars, so if and when I can find organic powdered sugar, the cost is ridiculous. It is worth it to me!
I feel like your intro is basically taking the Whippoorwill Hollow channel and very slightly changing the dialogue.
