cotton swabs should not be too deep in your ears, really. it's very harmful to do so because ear wax can be pushed very far back and eventually clog your ears, especially if you're unaware of how much you normally have in there or how quick it builds up. the amount you pull out is often much less than the amount that was in there. of course everyone is different but the safest is not to.
