Hi Laura, My only experience before launching my private practice was in group practices and agency work. I love the freedom in private practice. I wasn't sure if I would feel isolated (something other therapists complained about), but I find my community in participating in seminars, workshops, and conferences (like the Not Your Typical Psychotherapist conference).
I’m just making the leap from agency to private and I joined an already established group practice. Thanks for the reassurance this provided, I think I’ve found a good one! But now I need to find a good accountant & affordable health insurance (!!) but otherwise I think it’s going to be a great move!
Thank you for the info, Laura. I run a group practice and have worked hard to blend a passion for serving our community (clients) and giving clinicians opportunity to fulfill their passions (working with clients and connecting with other clinicians) without the hassle of managing a business. It's amazing how much time and effort and $$ can go into this process. I believe that a great group director does these behind the scenes tasks without making it look like a gargantuan pain in the patootie! Who wants to work with someone who acts like doing their job is doing the other person a favor or is a huge chore??!! So, that's another thing to look for: does your group director ENJOY what they do? Do they have a clear picture of the vision for the group? Does it align with your vision? Know what you want and don't be afraid to seek that fit for yourself.
AWESOME tip! The leader of an organization can really make or break the company culture, so I really appreciate your perspective here! Thanks for sharing :)
This was exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!

Hi Jo! Great point about attending helpful seminars, workshops, and conferences. It was awesome meeting you at the NYTP Summit back in May!

Thank you, reviewing my contract was getting cold feet, you helped, still unsure but now I know what questions I need to ask before signing 🙂
