30 years ago i use to catch mulloway a lot in the lakes but winter time was best time, colder the better, use to use live mullet or whiting, live gar, never had any luck using shitties, always late at night,no sinker,un weighted,34lb was my biggest in the lakes, can catch them during summer but i done better in winter, long time ago though 👍
Wow that’s awesome! I’ve just gone off what people have told me obviously I haven’t caught one yet in the lake or the port! I’m sure there around all the time though just all luck based isn’t it!
I used to go around the same area yrs back, with a mate (who's now long gone)... He'd use prawns (tails for bait, heads etc in the burley) he did well on the Bream. Live bait mullet for Mulloway, Id rekn there's still the odd one lurking. We did better off the rivermouth walkway at Pt Noar Sth... incoming tide, live jumping mullet.. bang!! Best of mate, oh maybe buy yourself a headlamp... we wdnt mind seeing what's happening!👍🏼
A great spot for a quick flick that guarantees fish is under Hart ST on the side with the boat docks. I recommend going down to the rocks and usually the water is really clear which means that you’ll be able to sight cast at fish. At this location I have found a school of little bream (about 10-15) but sometimes you might find bream ranging from 22-30cm if you’re lucky. So far this location is best fished at 6-9pm during high tide. Best baits are prawn and cockles and also beware of the wooden poles in the water, I’ve been snagged there.
Used to live walking distance from this spot. Fished early hours regularly. Small black crabs on freespool running ultralight (look under wet stones). BIG Bream. Get as close to inlet gates as possible. Loose the hivis pants, keep quiet n dark, stay back from waters edge, be patient....
We would go hot water at the power station actually at the outlet mate worked there. And we had those years where trumpeters/ shitties were in plague proportions. Anywhere we threw them back but an Asian co worker said he’d take them because he made in his words shitfishsoup.
Which side did you fish on the first bit where our Harbour is is where the fox is always hanging around at the start of West Lakes. Trumpet is a good when you smoke them get a good smoke cooking in there
@JacobMarsdenFishing Yes, there's a yellow line there saying no fishing. Because.Of the residents there always complaining. But I've been fishing there for years and never had one complaint.
There are salmon that school there throughout the year but the fish you can see and hear agitating the surface are big sea mullet. The only luck youll have with them is jagging them with trebles hahah.
@JacobMarsdenFishing yeah my girlfriend she sees it running when she sits on her balcony. She lives in one of them new apartments she tells me all the time when she comes across the fox she's like oh she's ok. The only thing I get to see there is the big pelicans that try and eat my fish from me 😂
