I dont get all the issues with Americans flying off our Carriers. Its our sister nation. The bond we have and interoperability of our forces is a beautiful thing to see. Great ship, great birds and glad to have our brothers and sisters from across the pond right there with us 💪

As a Brit total repects to the US Marines and co-operation still goes on. I remember back in the 1960's it was thanks to our American Cousins who made sure the Harrier survived into service. Followed both the joint RAF and US Marines a while back F-35b's working together on HMS Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier travel to the other side of the World keeping the sea ways open. Was impressed with footage HMS Prince of Wales with modern large drone use. To be honest I'm totally sick and tired and bored to death of those who constantly put our forces down and wish they get a life. Co-operations with good allies has been going on for many many decades and why we can thankfully unlike others sleep in our beds at night knowing we are safe.

The Queen Elizabeth class are not 280 metres, they are length 284 metres/ 932 feet, Beam 73 metres/ 240 feet, and they have a surge capacity of 72 aircraft.

This from an ex RAF man who has the utmost respect for all those seamen and flying staff willing to put themselves in danger just so the morons who constantly swipe at them can sleep peacefully. Recruitment and retention figures tell a very different story. While I have the utmost respect for our servicemen and women we must acknowledge they are very badly let down by the Politicians who are suppose to provide leadership. Two ships have recently been taken out of commission because there are not enough sailors to crew them. As it is there are not enough ships to adequately form a Battlegroup to protect the Carrier.
I’d rather we had a better NHS than these total waste of tax payers money. It’s embarrassing as it’s quite obvious we can’t afford the aircraft for them.

I don't think anyone is aiming at those who serve. More likely our politicians who couldn't plan the proverbial in a brewery. There is no point in a country likes ours having 2 carriers of this size and then ruining it with spending cuts and all this diversity crap. We can't police the world so constuct the services as a defence of the UK.

Brilliant job. Nice coverage and our wee ships are performing well given first couple years teething problems. Car manufacturers frequently recall tens of thousands of vehicles as their newer models break, maim and kill folk - moan at them After 100,000 units made, sure they can't make any more mistakes ? We built two Queen Elizabeth class carriers. They haven't broken, maimed or killed through ' unforeseen challenging design irregularities '. Keep 'er lit the boys yee and don't spare the horses !!!
Its great too see our American cousins flying and landing on a British carrier, I must admit I would definitely like to see more of the British F35 taking a bigger roll. I find very disappointing that the quantity of F35 the RAF has does not give both carriers a full compliment .

Should have developed the Harrier. Would probably have been able to afford more of those and would have been a better aircraft anyway. Would also have resulted in BRITISH jobs!
It's not that Britain won't have enough aircraft. Their quota isn't fuel to be fulfilled until 2025. America has only just gone into full production of the aircraft.

Why add additional costs for aircraft that aren't needed. The Mojave UAV is being tested as an AWACS aircraft, by the Royal Navy, which can be launched from the QE carriers. This will give a higher ceiling, longer endurance, and greater range with better electronics, than any hawkeye AWACS, and they are to be fully integrated into the F35B, thus better capabilities than any modern navy has for the forseeable future. The only aircraft that cannot land on the QE/POW are those that we don't need, mostly for COD (letter and parcel deliveries) work. The merlin has the range to fly almost anywhere from the QE. So do tell exactly what capability we need that we cannot have on these carriers!

You think that’s bad, take a look at the RCN, they can’t even perform Amphibious operations or support amphibious operations without degrading their own capabilities,it seems to be the norm with the UK and Canada, but Australia seems to understand and apply that understanding into effective and efficient procurement.

I fully understand that new ships have teething issues, especially new designs, but these two have not gotten off to a great start, IMO. Hopefully resolved with a decent amount of sea and exercise time.

No one needs to disrespect the sailors but you only have to look at the Recruitment and Retention figures to see the problem, people do not want to serve in the Royal Navy. There are a multitude of reasons for this, one of which is the constant erosion of Terms and Conditions of Service. Two ships have been taken out of service because of a lack of crew.
Maybe we could borrow some planes...

Teething troubles aside its nice that where back with too flat top's again. As there first in class there kind you're bound to have a failure of something why people cry over a throne propeller is quite pathetic .Its how you get back to strength that matters and learn what's working or find out what's need's a different approach .Funding is the biggest problem why can we give billions to Ukraine yet we ask our forces to do ever move with less .
My only fear is that we have 2 great big massive targets out there - but is there enough firepower to protect them?
You’re absolutely right. There aren’t enough support vessels to form an effective Carrier Battle Group. The Navy have even laid up a couple of ships because they don’t have enough sailors to crew them!

I've followed the JSF and CVF projects since their inception, and the timeline of political decisions which the project managers navigated so skillfully... and no ome in these comments is qualified to have an opinion. They are the definition of "low information" voters. There is some very interesting, rarely seen, footage in this video, but don't read the comments if you're looking for insights. 🙄

This is mostly old footage from the sea trials done off the US east coast last year which was mutual training for both the RN & USMC.
That said, what you stated in jest kinda fits with the fact that the yanks do have two more supercarriers under construction at the moment (the John F. Kennedy & the Enterprise).

Why all of these videos only say 40 bemuses me when they the Royal Navy clearly stated that both QE Class carriers can carry up to 70 aircraft when at full readiness in a fully loaded, full on war campaign footing.

This is 11 days ago the video says and every plane is a USA plane ...so in summary the carrier is the equivalent of a car transporter moving other companies vehicles around....

So if its a British carrier why are the planes covered in US insignia...( Stars and stripes).... So we have these carriers but cannot afford any aircraftof our own to put on them????
This footage is largely from it's 2021 deployment where they had a combined force from the USMC and RAF.
The UK owns over 30 F-35s, 48 have been paid for with more to be ordered, but delivery has been slow.

Very nice but carriers are becoming obsolete in modern warfare, they are and will be huge sitting ducks in any real conflict. I certainly wouldn't want to be stationed on one.

The Russian Black Sea fleet even with it’s losses is still larger and more capable than the entire Royal Navy.

Oh if only the internet had been around when the type 23's first entered service problem after problem but there wasn't an internet or smart phone on everyone to highlight and drama queen every issue. We see it with the ajax vehicles in development now oh how many smartarse's banging on about troops being sick, having hearing problems and noises as if it's the first time it's ever happened only it's not same thing happened with the warrior when it was in late development. Our politicians are royally screwing the UK in every area but more critically in defence maybe we should have five MP's at the front of every deployment the defence budget would skyrocket overnight.

Old footage from when they were establishing the initial operating capability for the F35 last year. This was when they were operating off the coast of Maryland using F35s from the Integrated Test Team and both jets are from the Marine Corps.
This does make me laugh, all the armchair admirals slating the ship for breakdowns / no aircraft / no crew / spent too much on food. Anything to have a go at our armed forces when most if not all of them don't have the balls to sign up and put themselves in harms way but would rather sit in their basements / bedrooms pretending they know what they are talking about.
Get with the programme and up to date, this is an old video from when she was across the pond (Yes god forbid she made it to the States) The UK has around 35 F35s (Stand to be corrected) with a further 44 on order and to the best of my knowledge paid for.
The delays are down to the supply chain from our colonial cousins (They only build 156 per year for international customers, and the software / hardware integration to enable them to use the UKs Meteor weapon system).
The ships did have shaft problems which admittedly should have been picked up both in build and on sea trials but thats new ships for you. Look at the problems USS Gerald Ford has been having and she has been commissioned for 7 years so we are not the only people with carrier problems. It happens, it gets fixed, then move on.
As a Veteran myself I have nothing but respect for the US military, admittedly there are some on both sides who take great pleasure in slating the other but in the main we work very well together and have much mutual respect.
I also know the RN is better because it has beer! 😀

It's incredible capability to break down? It's incredible capability to carry exactly one type of fixed wing aircraft made by Americans and Italians but certainly not the British themselves? It's incredible capability to carry only 36 fixed wing aircraft despite being Britain's biggest ever carrier? It's incredible capability to serve 3,000 meals costing 110,000 pounds (which implies the average meal costs over 35 pounds each). P.S. To be fair, the carrier is unlikely to EVER carry as many as 36 jump jets because it doesn't have the budget. So it's probably quite a spacious carrier for the crew... currently standing at around 700 but designed to operate with 1600 when fully equipped. Not to mention, this is the carrier that was never meant to be... by the time the Government tried to cancel the vessel, construction was sufficiently advanced it was deemed to expensive too cancel (penalties of around 1 billion pounds would've been incurred). I also gather the Navy is considering a retrofit with an electromagnetic catapult and arrester system. For comparison, the USN Gerald R. Ford can carry 75+ aircraft, multiple types, and can cruise for 25 years without refueling its nuclear reactors. It has a speed in excess of 32 knots. The Queen Elizabeth class can travel around 8,000 miles without refueling, and has a top speed of around 25 knots.

What are you babbling about? The Italian contribution to the F-35 is trivial compared to the British contribution. We make around 15% to 20% of every aircraft (the former for the F-35A & F-35C, the latter for the F-35B), key parts that the US doesn't have the experience/expertise to make (they're not "taking pity on us", if they could make those parts themselves they would, either by buying the designs from us or just stealing them outright).

Well we have 31 at the moment with another 17 due by end of 2025 . What’s the problem ? The next phase of F35s will be the tranche 2 which will take us up to 74 . Apparently we are still committed to 138 .

At the end of the day, this is all academic when the labor party come into power one or both of these aircraft couriers will be sold, and it won’t make a bit of difference. Who cares if it’s an American aircraft or a British aircraft flying off one of these carriers, it’s an airplane. These carriers are supposed to be able to carry 40 aircraft each combination of all sorts, but mostly jets this country is so poor now that he couldn’t even afford to do that one aircraft carrier and think of all the ships that were decommissioned early to pay for what you have to remember is illustrious came out of refit 286,000,000 pound refit and within a few months, they said that they were decommissioning her and scrapping her What a waste of money and had the electromagnetic lawn system actually been available and working when Cameron said that they wanted to go for the cheaper aircraft other words, the bay cats and traps they probably wouldn’t be flying this particular model, which is very expensive if they’ve got any sense the first time one of these goes into refit they’ll fit the electromagnetic system because the aircraft carrier is big enough to take it and has extensive power generation capability they can put all of them on the vertical launch ones on one carrier and replace them on the other carrier with a much cheaper aircraft that can do the same like the F-18 super hornet or something similar
