I'm always surprised talking to young metal heads on how they dont know annihilator or accept... They culture is crumbling even if they are still listening to metal but you have to know your classics
My Dad played for Annihilator in 1988 and recorded the Alison hell demo album. If Jeff Waters wasn't so selfish and could hold a band together they could have gone huge. Look at all the past guitarists for Annihilator. Really sad.
Such an awesome song, and Jeff makes it look almost effortless. Seriously though, even most of the rhythm guitar is like playing a solo in this beast of a song.
+Snake absolutely Im glad he is getting more popular with youtube..years ago when Jeff first came on scene..I kept telling people about this raw underrated guitarist...very very good
I first heard of them through a magazine about 10 years ago, had Alice in hell on the free cd. Got to meet Jeff during this tour when he came to Glasgow. He's so awesome live.
If not one of the greatest guitar players in the world, he's definitely the greatest Canadian guitar player. And just have to give props to this entire album its a work of art
This is about Jeff, he nails the solos he made in 89, watching live performances of Testament and Friedman they dont quite hit all the same notes they did in the studio
Just my opinion, but I think Jeff and Annihilator fall short in recognition in the U.S. due only to not touring the U.S. The European market is more accessible (more and larger festivals) and less expensive than the U.S. touring and festival market. Never the less, Annihilator is one of the best bands in the world.
He such a machine, looks too easy for hi :D Side note: Getting into his playing has been very interesting for me because you can really hear the influence he had on Alexi Laiho's solo style (I listened to bodom first); the phrasing and "fun" factor here really remind me of the solos on kissing the shadows. RIP
word salad is the greatest annihilator song ever written because its the greatest annihilator song ever written. greatest leads, riffs and vocal deliverance, along with some pretty cool bass lines and drumming
I have a cassete album of annihillator AlisonHell. I was pretty amazed with the album, especially the credit lines (all guitars and bass played by Jeff Waters)
Alice in hell was a killer-debutalbum with much power and great riffing. In my eyes the best Annihilator-Album. Jeff is such a great guitarplayer putting tons of riffs into just one song. So sad that there were so much lineup changes even to a oneman band that killed the Annihilator-spirit (my opinion, that doesn't mean that i do not love all the other albums).Jeff rules!🤘
It seems he tried to cover it up seamlessly with some tapping from fumbling over the fretboard. I don't blame him though that sequence of notes is otherworldly.
Hendrix was good for his time, but Jeff would play circles around him if he were still around today, all the while doing his goofy smiles and creeping about the stage like he always does.
I didn't see him noticeably struggling much through most parts, but it isn't unheard of for a musician to struggle playing his own song if his band rarely performs it live, and I don't think Annihilator performs this very much at all. Doesn't matter if you wrote a song, you can easily forget how to play it if you've gone even just a few months without playing it. For all we know he may have had to relearn this song just to play it here.
I think the main reason for that is that Jeff would maybe struggle to sing and play it at the same time and it's an incredibly difficult song to play right. Couldn't have imagined Dave Padden singing and playing it either even though he was actually a tight singer and rhythm player.
Well it's an extremely difficult song to play. he didn't get every single moment 100% but most of it looked easy to him. even the rhythm parts look hard because it abruptly starts and stops a lot
Struggling? On songs he wrote himself, and has been playing live( also probably drunk and high back in the day) for decades?? HIGHLY doubt he even broke a sweat...
One of the best guitarists of all time, period.
I'm always surprised talking to young metal heads on how they dont know annihilator or accept... They culture is crumbling even if they are still listening to metal but you have to know your classics
Metal guitarist, definitly!
Melpheos1er some of us younger metalheads are die hard oldschoolers

I get the impression that hes a bit... eccentric.
Jeff came from another planet, where the children are born with a guitar in their hands. 🤗😎🤘
His notes are like machine gun fire, precise and fast. Jeff Waters superunderrated! He is a music soldier.
And he looked like he wasn't even trying his hardest, the guy is a damn shred master, incredible video thanks for sharing

I play bass. This song sounds like a total nightmare on guitar.

So cool to watch Jeff play this song. Word Salad is such an amazing and fun song!
Possibly the tightest rhythm guitar player ever
not possibly, there is no other that can voice cleaner than jeff, maybe besides chris poland
Jeff Waters goes toe to toe with Alex Skolnick and Marty Friedman. He just goes unoticed it's ridiculous.
I love Marty and Alex but I personally put Jeff above them. I think his riffs are so underrated.
Best riffs hands down, dude absolutely murders
This is about Jeff, he nails the solos he made in 89, watching live performances of Testament and Friedman they dont quite hit all the same notes they did in the studio
Marty Friedman is unreachable for anyone, if we talk about solo songwriting. Rust in Peace is the ultimate proof...

hands down one of the best shredders of our time

Nope you're wrong.
that song rules and the outro with the guitars sounds fucking crazy..... waters is in a different league
@@darksector_0675 ur wrong word salad is the goat
Agreed, the guitars in that song, are just...incredible.
Jeff is by far the greatest shredder alive! Rhythm groove speed skills and also a killer songwriter!! Insane!!
Jeff is an OldSchool one-of-a-kind guy, that is in league with Chuck Norris!
This guy is just amazing. For sure one of the best of his generation.
This is my current favorite band. Incredible! This guy has so much charisma.
This guy is such an underrated guitarist. He rips.
I have a cassete album of annihillator AlisonHell. I was pretty amazed with the album, especially the credit lines (all guitars and bass played by Jeff Waters)
the riff at the chorus is just amazing
Damn he's too good. Love it!

So excellent this guy bloody cool Saludos from Mexico
Fantastic! I always loved Jeff Waters :D
I always loved Annihilator since they released first album. Jett Waters is one of the best riff masters ever.
Maestro...Master
looks like his high e string catches under pickup/fretboard at 3:29 and he recovers so quick. awesome solo
The recovery was so smooth that I thought that was some intentional extended technique for the solo!
It seems he tried to cover it up seamlessly with some tapping from fumbling over the fretboard. I don't blame him though that sequence of notes is otherworldly.
@@09mrhardabs Because of the recovery it almost sounds intentional!
This guy never has a bad day!
Good Master! Good Show!
This is fucking mindblowing! Thank you for recording it!
His best work.
2:47 Watch this!!!
Πες τα ρε Κώτσο! 😉
4:48 Goddamn, what an absolute chad.
The faces that he makes are just too hilarious
Master Jeff The Man!!!
this man is a Riff beast on the Guitar!!! \\m// \\m//.................
indeed....\\m//
Guitarguitar on Argyle Street in Glasgow!! I was there :) awesome job posting this, not often you get to see Word Salad live!
hahah i love how he moves his head to the rythm of the song
Best clean thrash rhythm guitarist: Jeff Waters
Best overdriven rhythm guitarist: Gary Holt.
Both are absolute gods and amazing human beings!
Yeah! He’s a beast.
This man´s technique is out of this world, even playing that fast he does it with feeling.
2:49 watch this *epic solo begins*
High e string got stuck on the pickups X). Happens to me from time to time haha. Still an awesome performance \m/!!
Amazing, that is what metal is all about
believe it or not.. this song is bloody hard to memorize and play...
The Master of Thrash!!
Awesome killer machine Awesome riffs
is that a clinic or did he just turn up to a music shop
Jeff is sick, man!
solid (salad) as fuck
this is too sick
muy bien
El es muy carismático y talentoso
Awesomeness...
INSANE!
They should play this song and Ligeia live.
My 2 favorites from this album as well. They're all killer, though.
Ligeia and Word Salad are so underrated that they never play them live and most underrated songs on Alice in Hell
I'd be going fucking NUTS if I was there.
All that played live
This song sounds like a nightmare to play.
I am learning two others from the same album. On bass. I won't even attempt this one.
Bass is probably easier to play than guitar on this song
Lucky guy, wish I had answered quicker...
Как же он ебошит
Lucky bastards!!! Wtf! Word Salad, No BALLAD!
Крутяк!!
Just look at how he gets high playing the guitar! When I see this I want to take guitar and play and play and play...
Fucking Sick!
lo maximo el solo
A machine.
classic.
He's still the best!
Brutál !!!
The best track off of Alice In Hell IMO.
For me it's Human Insecticide, but this one's pretty good too.
Schizos for me, even tho its an unpopular!
Ligeia is such a good song that I did a TH-cam reel of it
Does anyone else grasp the magnitude of what’s happening before their eyes? Get up and bang your heads!!!
Actually, he said he never got high or abused alcohol
jeff is a awesome guitar player even Hendrix would be impressed at this mans skill . \m/
Hendrix was good for his time, but Jeff would play circles around him if he were still around today, all the while doing his goofy smiles and creeping about the stage like he always does.
Good grief...

Hellyeah!
He rarely looks at his fretting hand.

\m/ cooljeff \m/
When is Jeff going to shit himself? I was waiting for that part but didn't see it.
Sure, why not?
Struggling?

Webgkil he's always been sober
@@letsgetrealmedicated for the last 20 years, before that he was quite an alcoholic.
Jeff Waters still destroys that instrument
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
igulaito
Bollix I say.
@Alchohollica
Actually the song is "Alison Hell".
"Alice in Hell" is the name of the album.
But it wasn't a written question I guess so it passed.
@Alchohollica
What was the question ?
