Just threw one of these in my pj ranger... Was glad to see that earthing the park brake wire to the radio ground worked for this head unit... Spliced that in mine and it is working beautifully... Android auto is more responsive than I was expecting which is a bonus...
Great video Nathan, I can confirm your advice about grounding the parking brake wire was spot on and saved me heaps of hassle with the install on a 2009 Forester. Keep up the great work!
MinoBerry yes, from the USB or DVD. You need to make sure the park brake wire is grounded for it to work. Plugging in the phone will just allow the main carplay / Android Auto apps
Great video, tossing up between the Pioneer DMH-Z5150BT and the Sony XAV-AX5000 . Watched both videos, keen to integrate it into my 2010 Aurion with using steering wheel controls/reverse camera. Which of the 2 units do you think is better (will be used for android auto) . i have noted that its about $64 more for the sony. Thanks!
Shane Chancellor Hello! Thanks for the feedback :). Great question, two great units. The Sony definitely has a better screen. The pioneer unit has much more to offer in sound settings and equaliser settings. Both units will run all integration and Android Auto perfectly. Personally I’d go with the Pioneer, because I love music and being able to adjust all of the settings. One thing to note is just take a good look at the start up screens and different source pages and see if either one looks better to you. For me, Pioneer but the Sony unit is by no means a bad choice!
Hi Nathan, my case the ‘Parking assist guide adjust’ doesn’t light up so I can’t adjust the parking guide lines at all! Do you know why? Could you please show me how to do. Thanks
Edison Nguyen Hey mate! Couple things it could be. 1) make sure camera is turned ON and camera power is on Battery (both in the same menu as guide lines) 2) park brake wire needs to be connected to GND. If it’s been connected to the park brake, try engaging the park brake and see if that makes a difference. 3) this one is last, put the unit into “off” mode by pressing and holding the main home menu button. This will power the unit off. Press it once more after this, it’ll turn back on but now in “off” mode. Go straight to settings > camera settings and see if it’s changed. It’ll be one of these 3 things :)
Thank you very much Nathan. I followed your advice carefully but one by one but it still doesn’t light up (Parking Assist Guide Adjust)! Do you have any advice to help me? Thanks in advance.
Edison Nguyen hey mate it’s 100% the park brake wire. Just tested one in store. Park brake wire disconnected = parking guide not illuminated. We connected it to Ground and it illuminated straight away. So you’ll need to look at where that wire has been connected :)
Great video mate. Looking at putting this in a 2016 Corolla. Are you able to connect up the headunit to use the USB and AUX ports that are already built into the car? Likewise, should I be able to connect up the factory reversing camera and steering wheel controls ? thanks
Maluras13 Thanks for the feedback! Yes you definitely can, on top of the unit you’ll need some adapters - USB / Aux adapter, steering wheel control module, and reverse camera retention. Jump on aerpro.com and type in your vehicle and all necessary parts will come up 😊
Good walk through. I just bought the DMH Z6350BT which is next model up and can't set the date or time. Do you have to connect GPS aerial for this to be done on these units?
Thanks Nathan fabulous video and very helpful. Just one question........ If I want to view videos with the handbrake OFF do I ground the long green wire as you mentioned? Thanks
george12954 Thank you for the great feedback! Yes that is correct, the long light green wire gets connected directly to ground (or black wire on the harness) and you’re off to the races!
Hey great video @nathanstephenss , I appreciate it greatly. Just a quick question. I'm either going to buy this or the AVH-ZL5150BT. Outside of the obvious no CD/DVD player is this product inferior or lacking in anyway to the ZL version? Thanks Mick
Mick Reddon Hey Mick, just done a quick google search of the ZL version. Seems that it is a larger (200mm) screen. This unit is used for specific cars, like most Toyota models. Just check to make sure your vehicle will suit, or let me know what car it is and I’ll see if I can find out for you. If you’re aware of this and it will fit your car, I’d 100% go with the ZL version as it will be more a more integrated finish :). Apart from that the unit is basically the same
Great video.. Is there any known issues you have heard for this unit in a Chevrolet Cruze LS 2015? Planning to get this one and I was told with a expensive harness since its a cambus install all controls should be working (steering wheel)
Love the videos mate have recently subscribed. Which do you prefer out of this pioneer unit and the Sony XAV-AX5000? The pioneer seems abit laggy compared to the Sony but looks like it has more options/settings on the pioneer.
David Ng Lam Thank you! Yep completely agree. Pioneer has a way better sound equaliser too. If you can hold out a little while longer I will have the 5350 review out. That’s the new pioneer unit with a capacitive touch screen 😊 so we can see if that is any good. But as they are I’d probably go with Sony. I just hate resistive touch screen displays.
Hey Nathan I can’t get the steering wheel control to light up in settings despite powering the unit off as per your video Restore settings Keyboard as well as others also greyed out 🧐
george12954 Hmmmmmmmmm. So you press the home button (press hold) unit powers off and then you press home button again (single press) unit opens to home screen and you go straight into settings and still blanked out. If the answer to this is no, try it in this sequence, if answer is yes, have you put the park brake wire to ground? This is the light green wire on the pioneer plug, needs to be grounded :)
Hey Nathan Thanks for your prompt reply. After trying everything I finally contacted Pioneer and after talking me through everything including a restore......... the problem turned out to be an incorrect head unit harness AND incorrect patch lead supplied by super cheap 😡 Lesson learnt........Cheaper not always better
Hello Nathan thank you for the vid. quick question, on this unit do I need to buy like a universal steering wheel control interface separately, that allows me to use the controls such as volume? thnks!
Leandro Leiva Hello! Thanks for the great feedback :). So it depends on the car. For most vehicles you can get a pre programmed module from PAC audio or Connects2, much easier to install. For some cars you’ll need to buy a hardwire module and have it hard wired + programmed. Which isn’t very difficult but the pre programmed modules are pretty much plug and play 😊. What car is it for?
Leandro Leiva aerpro.com/vehicles/jeep/jeep-wrangler-2007-2015?src=plugin Click that link. That’s all the bits and pieces you need, depending on what radio is going in etc. (fascia and steering wheel control module and antenna adapter) main parts :)
malak basheer No worries. We come to you for installation, please send an email to info@aesonline.com.au and mention this and I’ll get you pricing and bookings information. Thank you
Nice informative review. I am hoping to unbox one of those on Xmas day to have fitted to my 120 series Prado. Wifey just got new car with apple car play and it is only now I see what I am missing out on..... Minor criticism with your video, and a pet hate for me. I don’t care what you look like, when I launch a review of a product I am interested in, I expect to see the product almost straight away. I don’t like a huge preamble looking at some randoms face. Anyways, very nice review.
Wow that was quick. Your video didn’t upset me at all, and I can’t for the life of me see how you think it might have. I wrote: positive comment! I wrote: minor criticism (personal) I wrote: positive comment! If you have a problem with that, then the problem is you. As I previously wrote, nice review.
HI, Thanks for this video... Can this unit use Google Maps? I'm trying to decide whether the higher versions are worth the additional cost... What are the major differences between this unit and the 7250/8250/9250 units?? Are they worth the additional (almost 2x cost)? I'm looking to install in a Porsche Cayenne with Bose sound system... TIA! Ps I don't see Calendar functionality either... Is this unit significantly different to the 5250?
Hi Nathan, killer video mate! My question is; I have used the pre made harnesses from Auto Barn (sooo quick and simple, didn't even know these existed) and the issue I have is that I can't get a picture when playing videos via USB, sound is fine just no image. Do I need to plug the Video out into the video in to get this to work? Or could it be because I have used a pre-made harness that has no park break grounding wire?? Thanks in advance Captain!
stuart white Hi mate! Thanks for the feedback. Hmm video through USB. So I’d be looking at two things. The format of the video file and just cross checking that it’s compatible with the unit. Video in or out should be irrelevant in this case as we are only using the USB input. If the unit has a screen and the pre-made harness has no green / park brake wire. They’ve sold you the wrong harness. The harness you have is for a single din (no screen) pretty much same plug except no need for park brake wire. In your case, you need it. It could very well be the issue you’re having. Just remove the plug and put it back in the package and take it back with “this plug is for a single din, I need the double din plug” THANKS! haha Hope that helps. If you get stuck just drop another comment and I’ll help out
@@TheFittingBay Thanks for the quick reply! I reformatted video files to suit. What your saying makes sense, as I couldn't get the unit to power up initially. I noticed that the ground wire was in the wrong spot in the plug. I cut it and bolted to body, bingo, lights on! Since I can't take it back now I might see if I can wire into the back of the harness and run the park brake to ground. Thanks for your expertise! I've checked out you website. Can I ask where your based? If I have trouble I might give you a call and book it in with you if your not too far away. Thanks again mate!
stuart white Awesome work mate! Do you by chance have the pioneer plug that came with the unit? You can take the park brake wire out of the plug and then insert into the current plug in the same pin position? If that makes sense. If not I’m happy to grab a plug and tell you what pin it is. You’ll just need to work out a way of a pin/wire into it. Maybe take the illumination pin out ( no one needs it anyway) and put it into the park brake pin. Either way I’m happy to help. Jump on the website my contact details are there you’re more than welcome to give me buzz. Located in Mt Waverley, we work on-site all throughout Melbourne.
@@TheFittingBay yeah mate that makes perfect sense. I still have the original loom that came with the unit. Of the top of your head do you know what colour the illumination wire is (can remember if its labelled) is it yellow? Cheers Legend!
stuart white if you’ve got the original loom just carefully try to pry out the green park brake wire and if you get it out it’ll plug straight into the plug you’re currently using on the head unit. If it breaks try to orange wire which is illumination and after that everything else is pretty important.
Excellent review. Also liked the Sony 5000 review. Do you have an opinion over the Sony unit versus this Pioneer unit as they are a similar price and functionality appears to be the same.
TheKentmcintyre Thank you! Good question, both really great units. Depending on what vehicle you’re putting it into you should know that the Pioneer is a true double din size and the Sony is a double din screen on a single din chassis. I’d personally go the Pioneer, it seems to be the more popular unit and in terms of in depth settings in Sound settings and general settings you do get a lot more options with the Pioneer also their layout is better and you can change the homepage widgets vs the widgets in the main menu screen. Other than that stuff you’re right, pretty much same features, same style of screen (resistive) etc. Short answer id go with the Pioneer. Hope that helps!
Hello sir i have a question i bought a Axxess steering wheel control and installed it. After i installed it I followed your walk thru which is turn off the stereo turn back on go into settings and click on the steering wheel control click on w/adapter and my steering wheel controls works great But when i turn off my car and back on I have to redo the settings my steering wheel controls dont work Have to redo the settings again. Do you might now how or what do i have to do so my settings will be saved? I also changed the red wire to the stereo yellow wire and didn’t work as well. Please help. Thanks
Valeriano Hernandez III Hey mate! Looks like the module isn’t saving your settings. Try this. When you go into steering wheel control settings - click with out adapter and save them manually from the head unit. Let me know how that gors
Valeriano Hernandez III Id read the AXXIS instructions again. To be completely honest I’d be chucking that module in the trash and using a connects2 module
Great walkthrough! Settings for the hertz and db I didn’t even think about that, will try and see if it makes a difference. I’m wanting to install front door components only, so will need to connect to the front preamp I guess?
I just upgraded to this unit and your video was extremely helpful in getting it set up the way I wanted it, thanks! One question though, in laymen's terms, what benefits will I get from changing those crossover settings you recommended? My car is a 2013 Hilux with stock speakers. Cheers!
Tim Davis Hi mate! Glad you’re happy with the unit! So basically what those crossover settings will do is allow you to get more volume (louder) without as much distortion and bass the downside is that at lower volume you lose the extra bass from the stock speakers. So depending on your music you’ve got clarity and loudness or lower volume and more bass. You can play with the settings (lower crossover settings like 50hz) to see if you can get more bass and just play with it till you get the sound you’re happy with. Let us know how you go :)
Thanks for the video. Are you able to connect to Android Auto using only Bluetooth or do you have to use USB? Are there any other units that allow you to use Android Auto wirelessly? Thank you!
QuinceOnWheels Hello! Android Auto will only work through the USB cable. No one has a wireless Android Auto solution yet unfortunately. I’d keep my eyes peeled though as it should be released pretty soon :) Hope that helps!
Hi, has any unit come out yet and If not can you still share music from your phone via Bluetooth and it will play or do you still need to be connected via cable...
Great video very informative and helped me a lot. Just finished installing this with Pioneer RCAM2. All works great BUT whilst driving along the screen randomly switches to the rear camera view. Connected Yellow video to RC in, red wire to ACC on harness and black wire to GROUND on harness. Note: these connections were made using scotch locks as I am an extreme beginner... I am yet to connect purple trigger wire to reverse light. I fear this may be a result of a bad ground but am not sure... Have you experienced something similar before or any idea what may be causing this?
Jonathon Cavuoto Hey mate! Sounds like you’ve done everything correctly! Don’t hesitate about running that reverse trigger wire. You’ve done everything correctly, to see the camera image you have to click the rear camera button on the unit and after doing so the unit will randomly display the camera screen (there might be a reason for this) I haven’t looked into it. But it’s common, when the camera image comes up you need to tap the “ X “ on the top of the screen to close it (as oppose to just pressing the home button or any other button) that should stop it from happening. When you go back into camera screen manually it will probably start doing it again. So when it comes up, tap the X and see how it goes. Let me know as Sony and Pioneer both do it and this process 100% works on the Sony, might be different on pioneer and if that’s the case I’ll work it out for you.
Hi Nathan, thanks for the time and effort you put into making these video's. Very informative and straight forward. Quick question, with this unit, do I need to bypass the parking brake in order to play video's via usb etc? Or is grounding it enough? Cheers
William Moka The best way is just to ground the park brake wire. This tricks the unit into thinking the hand break is always on and therefore letting you view videos / use CarPlay etc freely.
Thanks for the vid, mate. Just wondering. I've just bought this unit and it's going to do pretty much 100% of what I need it to do. Is there a way to split the USB input where I can plug in a USB with video/audio media AND my phone for charging/car play? Thanks in advance!
Lach McQueen Hey mate glad you enjoyed the vid :). I’m not 100% sure that it will work, but you could grab a USB splitter from online or officeworks / JB hi fix and try that. Don’t see why it wouldn’t work, you just wouldn’t be able to use them at the same time. So you can have CarPlay OR be on the USB source for video files and music. Not use them at the same time. Second thing is the splitter won’t work at all but we’ve never tried it. Wouldn’t hurt to give it a go!
Sgt Shorty X Hi there! Unfortunately not! The external microphone from the head unit (comes with the unit) needs to be mounted and run to the unit. A good tip for you or your fitter- for a more integrated look, located the genuine microphone, remove it and hot glue / stick down the new one in its place and don’t chop any wiring in case you ever want to revert back to original 😊
Joejoeinc Depends on the car. For most cars there is a module, it will read the CAN network and give out an RCA output - the rca output goes into an aftermarket radio and you can control the genuine functions from there. Example: You’ll need- Fascia Steering wheel control module + info adapter module Reverse cam integration harness Antenna adapter. These things will retain all your factory features
Buddy on my car a Kia Sportage 2016 I bought couple of modules but the guys installing it are not able to make some controls to work like volume up, mute , next song etc…
@@TheFittingBay also i just get “no response when I try to connect my iPhone 12 to my car and I’m not able to get the CarPlay work, even with an iPhone 11
Thanks for that, for apple CarPlay and Android Auto the phone needs to be connected via USB. Newer units will allow wireless CarPlay but nothing for android auto just yet, wireless mirroring is a thing though.
Rindaman Thank you. Yes it sure is. You’ll need a couple other bits - Fascia Steering wheel control module Antenna adapter And the head unit. Then it will work no problem :)
MinoBerry Capacitive Touch screen . Fast UI. Easy to fit. Has the option of a very quick easy and powerful amp add on. All around does a better job but don’t get me wrong. pioneer is GREAT
Sajeen Raman Hi mate no problem. They are designed to be used with SPH-C10BT which in my opinion is a terrible unit. The unit needs you download a smart phone app and control it via that. The display for parking sensors will come through the app onto the phone.
christos miakos Hello! Thanks for the great feedback :). Apple CarPlay, unfortunately only supports Apple Maps and Google Maps and Waze I believe. Take a look at the Alpine ilx-702D, great unit, great price and it has a HDMI input, you can head to Apple and buy a lightning - hdmi adapter And a hdmi cable, plug it in and you’ll have mirroring of your phone. Then you can use any app including HEMA and TH-cam. If you’re willing to spend some extra money, alpine also have a unit that has HEMA maps built in! We are still waiting to get our hands on one for a review.
Can I watch tv through this with say a digital tuner and antenna? Also can I stream say Netflix or the 7app and watch my phone's stream through this? So my misses can watch something whilst I'm driving
Zane Gleeson Sorry to say this my friend. The answer to all of those questions is no. - TV tuner. Needs to be the pioneer one (specific plug) not available in AUS. - streaming Netflix - 7app. Cannot be done through CarPlay or USB. However can be done through: - HDMI for iPhone - mirroring for android. This unit does not offer HDMI input nor mirroring. Look up the AVH-Z9200DAB. That unit will allow you to use the apps you wish to use. So will the Kenwood DDX9019DABS. And so will the Alpine (ilx-702D, Halo9) The alpine units only have HDMI input. No mirroring. The other two have both mirroring AND hdmi. Hope that makes sense :)
@@TheFittingBay cheers, I found a way around that.. I have galaxy S10, so USBC (from phone) to HDMI.. HDMI into a HDMI to RCA box, then RCA into RCA input on din.. so I guess it can be done . It's kinda strange cuz there are $50 no name Chinese ones that have mirror display, kinda silly big end names don't.. But thankyou for your reply
Zane Gleeson The big names do have mirroring units. They’re just the high end ones. The ones I listed previously both do mirroring (Kenwood and pioneer) Yes I suppose you’re right. I mean you can pretty much do mirroring with most phones / units with that method but most people don’t wanna go through the hassle.
eryk zavala You can use the Bluetooth system for phone AND music. Bluetooth is wireless. Phone needs to be plugged in for CarPlay and Android Auto . Two apps that also feature music players etc :)
Hi I tried the SWC thing you said about turning the unit off and than doing it and it still didn’t work have you got any ideas why it wouldn’t of worked cheers.
Ren’s World Unfortunately you can only fit a single din unit in that car. You can look online for a Chinese unit, it will replace the main audio / screen set up you have now, only issue is it’s hard to find any of decent quality. For the big name brands, Sony, pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood etc. only single din will work.
@@TheFittingBay question bro? so i just got mine installed into my car today but when i plug my phone into the usb port of the car it doesnt connect to the stereo? Was there something done wrong?
Hey nathan.. need a favor.. like i have holden calis vy 2006.. and i want to upgrade my head unit so actually i want some good functions for Android like wireless mirroring and more.. acc. To you which one i will buy in favourable price??
Amanjot Singh hey mate! This unit does not allow mirroring but it has Android auto which is a great function and the price of this unit is very competitive. Another good unit look at is Alpine w650E , we have a review on it. Great unit and great price. Also Kenwood DMX-8018s another great cheap unit . This unit allows mirroring also :)
Hey 👋🏽. Great video. Quick qn. When using Apple car play, do you always have to plug your phone in and does it charge?. Not just this model. I mean all .
Ren’s World Hello :) thanks for the great feedback!! Yep all models need to have the phone connected for CarPlay and it will also charge the phone. Some new Kenwood models will now allow wireless CarPlay, DDX9019DABS, we have a review on this unit. Pioneer will begin to do it soon as well. Alpine also have a wireless CarPlay unit, we also have a review on that unit. For models in this price range it’ll need to be plugged in. Hope that helps! 😊😊
Nathan Stephens sweet I’ll check it out. Another qn. I’m looking at buying my next car. Can you replace the middle radio bit in the holden omega? It’s ugly and I was hoping I could.
Ren’s World Yes you can change it, for a while it was impossible but now a couple of places make a kit for the car. jump on aerpro.com and have a look at their kit, it will allow an aftermarket unit in your car and keep all the climate functions etc :)
Hey! Any idea how this would fit in a 2012 impreza? ive seen with some of the sony units the need a belez at the front, do you know if this would work? Thanks!
Daria xx Hi! Yes this will definitely work. You’ll need a fascia panel and a steering wheel control harness (to retain the steering wheel buttons) and that should be about it. Possibly an antenna adapter also. This unit will definitely work though. If you’re in Melbourne get in touch with us www.aesonline.com.au Anywhere else just visit Autobarn or your local Auto parts dealer for the correct parts and pricing.
Jahir Alvarado Hello! No TH-cam and Netflix are unavailable through CarPlay and Android Auto . For these features you will need mirroring - Alpine ilx-702d can mirror through HDMI Kenwood DMX-8018s and units above that can mirror through HDMI. Some of the latest Kenwood units DDX9019DABS can even do wireless mirroring. But as for Android Auto and Netflix you’re limited to the apps shown in the video.
Hellow @@TheFittingBay! oh thanks, I understand, one question more.... can you recomendate other radio like android with good sound quality and good features for this I need, netflix, spotify, youtube and can use internet with a dongle usb 4G/LTE. and work with this dash of 9.0 inch for suzuki ertiga www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RZRW99B/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3E4G49N0AA5VA&psc=1 I like pionner and for the sound quality but I need this apps Thanks for your help.
Jahir Alvarado Hi mate so unfortunately these main units Pioneer Kenwood Alpine Sony Etc - do not have 4G hot spot connectivity . Only the Chinese units have this. Maybe look up unit on Ali express for the car. Something running Android system :)
Does it have a button to the screen off but keep system on at the same time. Like the screen is black but the music is still playing. I have another pioneer version that has that option
Eloï Ducasse Thank you! We’ve done a few of them actually, does it have navigation or the touch screen display? Either way it will fit and work perfectly it’s just more expensive in parts depending on the car. Go to @autoelectronicsolutions Instagram page and you’ll see a photo of one we’ve done in the past. It’s closer to the bottom of the page. Hope that helps, any other questions don’t hesitate and don’t forget to subscribe 😀 Thanks!
Eloï Ducasse Perfect, it can still be done and the camera can be retained depending on who you go through for installation. If you’re thinking of doing it yourself I would recommend other wise unless you have a fair bit of experience doing head unit upgrades. The Holden Cruz is one of the harder jobs to do but definitely not impossible :). Jump on www.aerpro.com.au and put your vehicle details in and it will show you all of the parts you need etc etc
Javi Hello! Unfortunately we don’t have that car here in Australia but it looks a lot like the Tundra? And in that vehicle you can definitely change the radio so I would assume yes, you’ll have to find your local auto parts supplier and/or eBay for the fascia and steering wheel controls retention. For the newer units within this budget- Pioneer dominate the market so I would suggest this or maybe a Kenwood unit that fits the budget
Josh Mansfield Hi mate sorry I sent you the incorrect link. Just google this part number FP9263K it’s a install kit with everything needed for your car. Same company
Jachan Edwards In the process of researching and testing now. If possible we will have a video up soon. Pretty sure it can be done just finding the bullet proof process :)
Hi Nathan Got this unit installed over the weekend.... (based on your video)...looks and sounds great. U said on this vid that you explained in more detail about crossover settings. Can u link it if ok? Just want to make sure my speakers are being utilised at the very best.
pnb 86 Hello! I haven’t done the crossover video yet! However If you follow what I do in this video it will sound much better. As each car is different with different speakers of different quality not all settings will be equal. I’d start at 80Hz with low slope and work my way up. Turning the volume loud for every setting to find the perfect balance in your vehicle. Does that help? If not I’ll get that video up as soon as possible and link it here for you :)
@@TheFittingBay can you recommend coaxial speakers for the front to run off the unit? Was wondering if I need shallow mount speakers too. Not running an amp or high end system ju s t want to upgrade the crappy factory set
Harley Affordable replacement speakers that’s aren’t too big and sound good are Kicker CS series. You can get front and rears from them. They sound really good for direct replacement. Not the best in the world but not rubbish either 😊
RonCarbom what unit is it? Exact same unit? What cord are you using? Try a new cord. If you have a phone case take it off (maybe bad connection) Is the phone charging when it gets plugged in? Does it come up with an error?
The Fitting Bay yes, my unit is DMH-Z5150BT I tried with a new cord I’ll try take it off the case Yes, the phone receive charge And not, without any error The thing is, that when I connect my iphone appear the name of my iphone in the left corner of the screen just that (sorry for my english)
RonCarbom okay. Just check in settings of the unit look for CarPlay or phone settings. Also update the software in the phone ios11 is old now. New software is ios13.
Do you definitely have this unit? Check the part number :). Following that. Try a new cable, we recommend genuine apple cable for CarPlay. Following that, press the home button on the head unit. Plug in the phone, the bottom left of the screen will show you that something has been connected, press that little icon and it’ll expand hopefully exposing an apple CarPlay symbol :)
Hey guys, I have the same head unit on my STI. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth memory is full and I can’t pair up my new device with the head unit, as the Bluetooth sections are greyed out. Would anyone in how to clear the memory? I really don’t want to rip it all apart. Alternatively, even factory resetting it would be beneficial. Any help would be greatly appreciate.
After looking at your review, others review, bring me some options, i hope you can help me out. alpine ilx-w650e or pioneer DMH-z5150bt, or JVC kw-m950bw? Or any other options? TIA Nathan.

Good info, but why did you not use proper lighting?
Thanks for this, It's quite useful. Can you please show us wireless connectivity using Wi-Fi, Weblink for DMH-Z5290BT. Thanks
Great video Nathan, I can confirm your advice about grounding the parking brake wire was spot on and saved me heaps of hassle with the install on a 2009 Forester. Keep up the great work!
kronixhitz Thank you for the great feedback :)
Can the unit play any type of video play back and if so on what app?
MinoBerry you can play movies from the USB and DVD. Not from the phone (Netflix and TH-cam) is that what you mean?
Ah I didn't think of that, great, so you technically can have a movie playing while driving (not that I want to).
MinoBerry yes, from the USB or DVD. You need to make sure the park brake wire is grounded for it to work.
Plugging in the phone will just allow the main carplay / Android Auto apps
Woah, was just looking for this and you just posted
Timing couldn't be better!
@@TheFittingBay Awesome, thanks for the response!
@@SCMsport i had the same question, i guess i'll go for the sony
Hi Nathan, my case the ‘Parking assist guide adjust’ doesn’t light up so I can’t adjust the parking guide lines at all! Do you know why? Could you please show me how to do. Thanks
Edison Nguyen Hey mate! Couple things it could be.
1) make sure camera is turned ON and camera power is on Battery (both in the same menu as guide lines)
2) park brake wire needs to be connected to GND.
Thanks Nathan 👍
@@TheFittingBay Yeah if the pioneer had a capacitive screen then it would be a done deal. Thanks for the response man. Will keep an eye out 😎
Hey Nathan I can’t get the steering wheel control to light up in settings despite powering the unit off as per your video Restore settings
Keyboard as well as others also greyed out 🧐
george12954 Hmmmmmmmmm.
Hey Nathan
Thanks for your prompt reply. After trying everything I finally contacted Pioneer and after talking me through everything including a restore......... the problem turned out to be an incorrect head unit harness AND incorrect patch lead supplied by super cheap 😡
Lesson learnt........Cheaper not always better
george12954 Hey mate!
Ahhh they sold you the single din harness with no park brake cable 🤦🏽♂️.
Glad to hear it’s all sorted now my friend 😊😊.

HI, Thanks for this video... Can this unit use Google Maps? I'm trying to decide whether the higher versions are worth the additional cost... What are the major differences between this unit and the 7250/8250/9250 units?? Are they worth the additional (almost 2x cost)? I'm looking to install in a Porsche Cayenne with Bose sound system... TIA! Ps I don't see Calendar functionality either... Is this unit significantly different to the 5250?
Yep get the 5250 at least or the 5350 onwards. Way better screen, faster in general. And google maps works through android auto / CarPlay.
@@TheFittingBay Thank you for your advise! 👍🏻
Can I ask one more question please... 😊 ... Whats the difference between the DMH-Z5250 and AVHZ-Z5250?
Just remove the plug and put it back in the package and take it back with “this plug is for a single din, I need the double din plug” THANKS! haha
Hope that helps.
Thank you for the quick reply and direct answer with your personal preference.

Hello sir i have a question i bought a Axxess steering wheel control and installed it. After i installed it I followed your walk thru which is turn off the stereo turn back on go into settings and click on the steering wheel control click on w/adapter and my steering wheel controls works great But when i turn off my car and back on I have to redo the settings my steering wheel controls dont work
Have to redo the settings again.
I did already but not all buttons work from steering wheel for example i can’t lower the volume can’t save it
Valeriano Hernandez III Id read the AXXIS instructions again.
@@TheFittingBay thanks heaps mate, I haven't given it a really good test since changing it so I'll let you know!
Thanks for the video. Are you able to connect to Android Auto using only Bluetooth or do you have to use USB?

Thank you!
QuinceOnWheels Hello!
Android Auto will only work through the USB cable. No one has a wireless Android Auto solution yet unfortunately. I’d keep my eyes peeled though as it should be released pretty soon :)
Hope that helps!
The fitting bay thanks for getting back to me, really appreciate it. I’ll give that a shot and see if the issue continues.
@@TheFittingBay Legend, thanks again mate. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the video. Do you know if you can use the factory microphone with this unit for a 2015 Kia Sorento?
Sgt Shorty X Hi there!
Unfortunately not! The external microphone from the head unit (comes with the unit) needs to be mounted and run to the unit. A good tip for you or your fitter- for a more integrated look, located the genuine microphone, remove it and hot glue / stick down the new one in its place and don’t chop any wiring in case you ever want to revert back to original 😊
Awesome video with a lot of information 👍
Brandon Stephens thank you
How do you access the original vehicle specific options after installing this unit? (like the door locks and light timouts etc)
Joejoeinc Depends on the car. For most cars there is a module, it will read the CAN network and give out an RCA output - the rca output goes into an aftermarket radio and you can control the genuine functions from there.
Example:
You’ll need-
Fascia
Steering wheel control module + info adapter module
Reverse cam integration harness
Antenna adapter.
These things will retain all your factory features
Buddy on my car a Kia Sportage 2016 I bought couple of modules but the guys installing it are not able to make some controls to work like volume up, mute , next song etc…

christos miakos Hello! Thanks for the great feedback :).
Apple CarPlay, unfortunately only supports Apple Maps and Google Maps and Waze I believe.
Take a look at the Alpine ilx-702D, great unit, great price and it has a HDMI input, you can head to Apple and buy a lightning - hdmi adapter
And a hdmi cable, plug it in and you’ll have mirroring of your phone.
Then you can use any app including HEMA and TH-cam. If you’re willing to spend some extra money, alpine also have a unit that has HEMA maps built in!

Also can I stream say Netflix or the 7app and watch my phone's stream through this?

Zane Gleeson Sorry to say this my friend. The answer to all of those questions is no.
- TV tuner. Needs to be the pioneer one (specific plug) not available in AUS.
- streaming Netflix - 7app. Cannot be done through CarPlay or USB.
However can be done through:
- HDMI for iPhone
- mirroring for android.
This unit does not offer HDMI input nor mirroring.

Josh Mansfield not that one sorry. Here’s the part number

@@TheFittingBay
Cheers, but it says Not compatible with factory navigation or pre 2011 vehicles?
Josh Mansfield Hi mate sorry I sent you the incorrect link. Just google this part number FP9263K it’s a install kit with everything needed for your car. Same company
Looking to find the speed sensor wire from a pioneer to a Toyota Prado 120 please
Great vid, helped me out a lot.
One question, can you make a customisable splash screen?
Jachan Edwards In the process of researching and testing now. If possible we will have a video up soon.
Pretty sure it can be done just finding the bullet proof process :)
Nathan Stephens awesome!!
Nathan Stephens love you 3000
Jachan Edwards The answer is No! Lots of research and time in trying to find the answer. The main Pioneer splash screen CANNOT be changed 😤
Do you know what the difference is between this unit and the avh-z5150bt?
pnb 86 Hi mate,
The AVH has a CD/DVD drive and the DMH is mech-less unit which means it doesn’t have CD / DVD drive.
Cool thanks Nathan!
Hi Nathan
Got this unit installed over the weekend....
@@TheFittingBay sweet thanks again Nathan!
Does this fit a 2012 Yaris 1.3L, trying to find an android auto unit that fits mostly for google maps
Harley Yes it does! And google maps will work with Android Auto and CarPlay!
@@TheFittingBay Just ordered one thank you for your help, also got the needed adapters from Aerpro
Harley Awesome 😎
@@TheFittingBay can you recommend coaxial speakers for the front to run off the unit? Was wondering if I need shallow mount speakers too. Not running an amp or high end system ju s t want to upgrade the crappy factory set
Harley Affordable replacement speakers that’s aren’t too big and sound good are Kicker CS series. You can get front and rears from them. They sound really good for direct replacement. Not the best in the world but not rubbish either 😊
Can you run 2 reverse cameras off this ie one at rear of car and one on trailer ?
Hi, ur video have a lot of information, but I have one of those but it doesnt connect with my iphone X iOS 11 u have any idea why ?
RonCarbom bluetooth or CarPlay ?
@@TheFittingBay carplay :( help me please
RonCarbom what unit is it? Exact same unit?
What cord are you using? Try a new cord.
If you have a phone case take it off (maybe bad connection)
Is the phone charging when it gets plugged in?
Does it come up with an error?
The Fitting Bay yes, my unit is DMH-Z5150BT
I tried with a new cord
I’ll try take it off the case
Yes, the phone receive charge
And not, without any error
The thing is, that when I connect my iphone appear the name of my iphone in the left corner of the screen just that (sorry for my english)
RonCarbom okay. Just check in settings of the unit look for CarPlay or phone settings.
Also update the software in the phone ios11 is old now. New software is ios13.
Great bloody video mate. How can I get you to install a head unit? I'm from Melbourne south east
Ian Fernando Thank you, just visit www.aesonline.com.au
All contact details are there.
What video format does this unit support? Why cant i play a video when my phone is plugged?
Dave So You cannot play videos by plugging in the phone. You need to have the videos uploaded to USB. What phone are you using?
@@TheFittingBay i have both android and iphone. Does it play all videos or there is a format?
Dave So Won’t play videos directly of either phone.
Needs to be MPEG-4, DivX or or WMV file played through USB.
@@TheFittingBay will try that. Thanks mate. Btw great review!
Dave So No problem. Let us know how you go!
Thank you :)
would you know if the amazon music app on the iphone works with this?
John 100% works :)
Good video would highly recommend
justin haines Thank you :)
Thanks for the video, will this unit power up without the radio antenna connected?
garryw1159 Yep as long as the ground connection (Black wire) is done.
So, is it possible to use steering wheel controllers without interface addapter?
Can someone give more details or link for more information about it?
Anyone know why the steering wheel controls keep reseting/forgetting everytime I turn the car off, They wont remmber/save!
When I connect my IPhone to the USB nothing happens, I can’t see the apps on the screen. It only connects to Bluetooth... Do you know why?
Would this work with a 2016 Kia Cerato 2.0 SX
After looking at your review, others review, bring me some options, i hope you can help me out. alpine ilx-w650e or pioneer DMH-z5150bt, or JVC kw-m950bw? Or any other options? TIA Nathan.
Yobel Limanto I would go with Alpine 😃
Excellent video! Where can i find the firmware update? I buyed the unit in South America, and the People of pioneer au says that I must use the firmware provided for pioneer latin, the only update that I founded is in pioneer au. Can you help me?
Nicolas B Do you wish to change the language? You shouldn’t need to update for language change I think you can change language in the settings :)
@@TheFittingBay hi! No, I don't need to update the language. I'm talking of firmware update. This will update all the unit.
Nicolas B www.pioneer.com.au/?s=DMH-Z5150BT&utility=firmwaresoftware
This is the available updates for the unit :)
@@TheFittingBay Thanks! But pioneer au tell me that I can not use that firmware because the stereo was selled in South America. In the firmware's instruction says that only use on equipment selled in Australia.... I don't know what to do... And don't want to damage the unit
Nicolas B Oh I see, so what if you download the firmware from Pioneer America website? Then it will be okay?
Also why do you need the firmware update? Is something not working?
how much do you charge to fit this and where are u located
Wissam m Hi mate. Located in Melbourne, for enquires please visit www.aesonline.com.au and you can get our contact details there
where is the usb port or do you have to install it?
Ryan Hoskins Rear mounted man. You gotta run the lead somewhere or buy a flush mount USB and mount that 👍🏽

Raihan Iqbal Yes it will. You’ll need a steering wheel control module as well and possibly an antenna adapter
Thanks mate
Is this suitable for a 2008 frontier??
Tokie0807 Yes should be fine. You’ll need a fascia and steering wheel control harness from a local auto parts store
Does this unit have web link feature
keegan naidoo No it does not :)
For the parking brake wire just install a relay 👀
Jonathan Mason For US customers 👍🏽 in AUS you can just put it to ground and never worry about it ever again
Would anyone know if this would fit a 2018 Toyota Tacoma?
with a facia it will work (if available) otherwise a shop will have to fabricate one but yes you can get it in there :)
what is the y/b/and red wires?
c bic In a universal wiring harness (aftermarket radio) Y - Battery 12V+ / Black - GND and Red - 12V IGN +
@@TheFittingBay Thanks
So you don't get a mic with this unit?
David Griffiths you do get a mic we just hadn’t plugged it in 🤤
Does it do Pandora from phone?
Jace & Levi Wehunt Yes but not in Australia. We don’t have pandora here anymore

Is there anything related to climate control?
Depending on the car, there will be an integration module with video output and then climate will work on this :)
