Laurence Fox made controversial comments against 'woke' people on Question Time when he clashed with an audience member over the Duchess of Sussex racism row, argued with Shami Chakrabarti over whether the next Labour leader should be a woman, and of the film 1917 said, 'there is something institutionally racist about forcing diversity'. Laurence joins us to talk about the reaction to his comments.

Get off it, Piers. Fox is correct. Militaries were racist and exclusionary. When people undertake to fight for a cause or country, they preferred to be with those who they are "comfortable" with. Sikhs, Gurkhas, whites, etc. in those days. Why judge them by our present day standards?

Absolutely. It wasn't long ago I wrote to GBNews saying that I found Laurence to be unprofessional and rude, and I would have been quite happy for him to go. But this incident has changed everything. It's quite clear that he is the victim of "cancel culture", with the media just plain LYING about him, calling his comments "misogynistic" even though they absolutely weren't. But even if the man WERE misogynistic - you don't FIRE someone for that! Every man has the right to express his views whatever they may be.

As long as people are not cussing - then they are free to voice their view- opinion and observation.
Science was built upon these premises.
The Christian Church however executed - tortured and burned alive many
great scholars - writers and scientists of the day because they brought
forward alternative views and observations. -- Even their pets were executed
      and their books burned.
Many sweeping campaigns if “Inquisition” were launched.
For instance; everyone found possessing any of these “false”
Gospels was put to death and his Gospel burned.
This continued for many centuries and thousands of people
were put to death by the Sun worshiping Christian Church.
Examples of those who were put to death are the philosopher
Giordano Bruno - Galileo - Joan of Arc - and the religious
order of knights called the Templars among countless hundreds
      of thousands of others.
If the Church did not have the power to burn these people
at the stake during their lifetime - then they would exhume
their bodies after their death and burn them (e.g. John Wycliffe)
The CORPORATE GOVERNMENT religion is continuing with this tradition of
persecuting and silencing truth tellers and those with a different voice.
That in itself a form of racism.
      If people become offended -
I say - Get as offended as much you like - I don't care

Obviously people can say what they want. People are free to criticise his opinions too. He said himself he says a lot of "unfortunate" things. He sounds like an edgy teenager saying whatever he can for a bit of attention. If he didn't do that, he would be irrelevant. Sounds like a lot of virtue signalling and when he talks about bringing divided people together but then burns flags.

The very reason an adult shouldn't just say what's on their mind in public is the same reason you don't drive on any side of the road, you don't smoke anywhere you want, you don't grab anyone else' body parts and you don't carry guns on a plane. In theory you should be able to do all this, but for all practical/legal/ethical purposes you can't (for obvious reasons). If you support this guy, then you may as do and let everyone else do want they want...which is anarchy - which is by nature...a mess. Fox should put on big boy pants and grow up.

I think I get what he is saying. It comes across as more of a 'token' racial insert character when it is just one guy rather than representative of the fact that he wasn't a token figure at all, there were millions of other Sikhs fighting too. I think that's what he is getting at, the character then feels more like a token racial insert for the sake of being representative rather than it feeling natural and authentic. EDIT: OMG just realised this is 3 years old. Thanks TH-cam

I think the point Laurence was trying to make is that if the film came out 20 years ago, no one would have batted an eyelid at seeing a Sikh in a war film, and probably would have been happy to see something different and interesting. However, unfortunately these days, there is so much pandering to minorities in the media (with 50% of everyone on British TV now black) and so much loathing of traditional white British culture - that it gives us an uneasy feeling when we see these minorities being glorified because it feeds into the modern spirit of racism against traditional white culture.

    • @NatFacker
      @NatFacker 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It's notable that NOT ONE single movie has EVER been made about the British West Africa Squadron that combatted the slave trade and rescued hundreds of thousands of black Africans from slavery. One can fairly wonder if the BBC has refused to finance such a project, and DEMAND to know WHY NOT? And no movie has ever been made about the American African Slave Trade Patrol. There's certainly a reason why, and it isn't because there haven't been great books & novels to draw upon for screenplays, many exist.

The days when Laurence Fox thought everyone would absolutely love his stubborn, elitist, couldn't care less attitude. Turns out people are not ready to accept a member of the elite, who has always had everything he wants, pretending to be hard done by. Literally no one will employ him now...he has gone the way of Katie Hopkins with his legacy being an appearance on Quedtion Time. I hope he thinks it was worth destroying his whole career for, because in a short period of time he will be completely forgotten.

Fox is indeed entitled to express an opinion however extreme it might be. And he has many of those. However, his politics are appalling as is his personality

Umm... I'm looking up pictures of Sikhs in WWI and all the pictures taken are segregated save a few with officers. Fox is correct. That just makes sense when during WWI the Sikh soldiers would have spoken Punjab as a first language or not spoken English.

    • @navisingh3674

Segregation depended on the unit, but desegregation became more common as the war dragged on as the British wanted the men to have high morale
