Jay White is pretty much the perfect heel for New Japan, and this interview kind of helps highlight that. He's trueborn New Japan, was brought up properly, knows and understands the customs, yet still openly chooses to go a different way; for a guy that's as talented as he is, fans are disappointed in him for taking every shortcut, he isn't supposed to care, and they hate him for it. It's the same reason Prince Devitt was earning nuclear heat during his transition to heavyweight; he was a trueborn junior Ace, yet HE refused to follow the New Japan way. Screw him, is what the fans felt. Similar thing to Ric Flair in his NWA run; the world had already seen him work one hour go's with Steamboat, yet he's going to come into our town, work against our top guy, and basically only use chops, eye rakes, chop blocks, nut shots, yet still win? Screw that guy. Jay White is good enough now to basically go bell to bell with anyone on the planet at this point, and the fact that he chooses to stall, not respect breaks, allows for outside interference when possible, utilize the guardrails as a weapon, etc will keep him as one of the most loath men in New Japan for however long he keeps to his way
