Flying Scotsman has officially reached 100 mph, traveled to America and Australia, met S&A 750 and nsw 3801, made the longest nonstop run for a steam engine, and yet has never met America’s most famous steam locomotive, Union Pacific 844.
As an LNER fan, of course I love Flying Scotsman. It has a great achievement and a long spanning career. I hope I will see it during it's centenary tours.
The engine that got me interested in the history of steam, and the only live steam British tender engine I’ve seen in person! Happy 100th anniversary, Scotty!
Today, February 24th, marks the 100th anniversary of the Flying Scotsman, the first steam locomotive in the world to reach 100 miles per hour! 100 years for the first to go 100 mph! How incredible! Happy 100th Birthday Flying Scotsman!!!
Flying Scotsman is a very important engine who he not brings people in his home country but the entire world because of how famous he is. If it were not Alan Pegler, Sir William McAlpine and Doctor Tony Marchington dedication to save Flying Scotsman, Scot would not be here today. I hope Scot continues to run for an extremely long time.
I've especially wanted to mention that I personally love the famous locomotive designed by Sir Herbert Nigel Gresley known as the Flying Scotsman who'd been claimed to be 1 of the very 1st steam-driven railway locomotives on the L N E R to reach its 100 MPH top speed, and especially when it's completely obviously clear to be no secret that this famous locomotive with a total of 2 tenders instead of only 1 tender since the Other Railway has a LARGE lack of fuel for steam locomotives meaning Steamies were being sent to the scrapyard to get cut up into pieces by the Scrapper's torch, but the Flying Scotsman certainly was very lucky to have been preserved while apparently for another fact is basically that the Flying Scotsman had been mentioned to be known as Gordon's brother who's been 'round for an entire century! And so, I'd especially like to wish Gordon's brother a happy 100 straight years of service!
I've especially wanted to mention that I personally saw this very famous locomotive being featured in the movie from Thomas and Friends titled The Great Race when Thomas met him over @ the big station in Vicarstown as properly introduced by Gordon the Big L N E R class A0 pacific steam-driven railway express locomotive! I've especially wanted to kindly mention that I personally learned that he's ACTUALLY capable to travel long distances with his own 2 tenders!
From breaking speed records, to almost getting stranded in a foreign country and never getting back to England. The Flying Scotsman has certainly had a long ride to get to where she is now!
Marvellous video! You captured the history of the Flying Scotsman really well! I can't wait to celebrate 100 years since it was built! My favourite locomotive ever! 😃 Hopefully, I can go see it, having riden behind it at the Mid-Norfolk Railway in 2021. 🤞
I only just realized that this video is 19 minutes and 23 seconds, so it's 19:23, like the year Scotsman was built, 1923. Either way, happy 20 days early birthday to Flying Scotsman!
... 9:59 new buyer McAlpine rescues hidden FS, abandoning coaches, shipped to Liverpool via Panama Canal 10:51 off to 1988 Australia steam festival 11:47 world record commemorative plaque
Took a criminally long time to settle down to watch 😬 Very great whistlestop diary of Scotsman's life The Australia bit was what had me most curious as beyond the occasional photos I knew next to nothing about its down under tour. Such a solid machine with a ton of stories under its non-existent belt for sure. Still no doubt an engine in my 'To See' list, something the pandemics had actually prevented me from doing
I am very happy I was there when Flying Scotsman was on the Keighly & Worth Valley Railway after the big restoration in 2016/2017 (can't remember exactly). Even was allowed in the cab for a brief moment, but way too many people to have my photo taken. Still own the soft cover book and gold coin that one could purchase to commemorate the event. The first class train ride behind this legendary loco that day is something I will remember all my life!
Without wanting to sound like a know it all I would really suggest a read of Andrew Rodens book. I appreciate you’ve tried to condense 100 years of History into 20 minutes, but there are some interesting stories that you’ve left out. I do apologise for sounding negative because I do enjoy your content, but I do think you’ve left out some of the more interesting stories. 👍🏻
Not negative at all, this is how constructive criticism should be worded and I'm thankful to you for pointing it out. I'll have to try and source a copy. Thanks!
1. LMS Royal Scot Class number 6152 "The King's Dragoon Guardsman" taking the identity of "Royal Scot" visited America before scotsman did. 2. GWR Castle No. 4079 Pendennis Castle visited Australia before scotsman did 3. Do people even know how much of Flying Scotsman is original? She's had 13 boilers and 9 tenders.
Wonderful look at a great locomotive. (Side note: Flying Scotsman didn't become an A3 until 1946, being renumbered 103. Then she was mad left hand drive in 1954....😉)
The reason why Flying Scotsman was renumbered 103 was because after the war, the LNER wanted to have a more logical numbering system. For, before 1946, the numbering system form 1924 was a mess. A reasonable one, but still a mess.
I think Flying Scotsman the 3rd A1 was the first built by thr LNER. 1470 Great Northern and 1471 Sir Frederick Banbury entered service as Great Northern locos.
I really want to see Scotsman in person but I have a question do you use dcc or analog for your layout because I’m not sure if I need to have dcc to run a train on the main and one that’s in a siding that’s not moving and points
Awesome episode about Flying Scotsman's history since now we're entering the month of the locomotive's centenary. Also, I really didn't like the new whistle sound after its 10-year overhaul because it's too ear-piercing.
As a long time lover and also a long time helper from days of market Overton Carnforth I am glad she has made it still aed to give her best for the crowds and enthusiasts lover her or hate her she is still a splendid example of 1930s technology some. Like the modernist cha ges others liked the retro look she required during the peglar time others like the 1950/1960's version I am really on the fence on this issue as I see the logic in both she is still the engine of great aesthetics and looks great at speed all the best to those who now look after her. Ay the rails be good to you for the next 100 years
Why Has Anyone Never Questioned What Happend To Flying Scotsman’s Second Water Tender, Can You Do A Guide Rail On What Happend To Flying Scotsman’s Second Water Tender
Shame both scotsman and Pendennis case can't be seen together this year as both are 100 years old and have ao g history together at various times we did celibate in 1973
Flying Scotsman has officially reached 100 mph, traveled to America and Australia, met S&A 750 and nsw 3801, made the longest nonstop run for a steam engine, and yet has never met America’s most famous steam locomotive, Union Pacific 844.
For the Australian leg, also met R707 and R761 (the latter famously derailed at Seymour while shunting)
But it met 4501. I think that’s good enough for me
He also met a big boy when in America
Happy 100th year to the Flying Scotsman
Did anyone notice that the video is 19:23 minutes long. It’s the year flying Scotsman was built
Man flying Scotsman is amazing.
It’s beautiful to see this beautiful peace of history still running til this day.
Agree!!!!
Beautiful! I'd bet that if Gordon ever saw this on Sodor, I'd say he would've been proud!
Maybe or maybe not lol
That was a great video and Happy 100th Anniversary of the Flying Scotsman!
“Long live the Flying Scotsman”

Happy birthday flying scotsman
Happy Anniversary to one of Gordon's real life siblings.
I'm happy to know the history of this engine spoken by you.
As an LNER fan, of course I love Flying Scotsman. It has a great achievement and a long spanning career.
I hope I will see it during it's centenary tours.
Happy birthday flying Scotsman have a really good day today :)

I like that opening gag about his whistle, cos it IS pretty shrill.

Nice video
The length of the video is 19:23, the year Scotsman was built. Well played, Max. Well played.
Wow now that’s great
perhaps we need a more in-depth video with more pictures and film that 60m 10.3s long, with a trailer advertising it of 4m 47.2s long hehe.
But at the beginning of the video he says it turned 100 years old in 2022
An amazing video you covered your tracks with this one
Happy 100th Scotsman amazing how long you've gone Gordon would be proud
sounds like Scotsman had a crazy time around the world and with his rebuild.

Only teasing, brilliant video as always Max 👍
Happy centenary Flying Scotsman. 🎉
19 minutes 23 seconds long, perfectly balanced, as all things should be
I share a birthday with flying Scotsman so I feel a personal connection to it!!

Here’s to another 100, Scotsman! Also, this American was happy for context on ah-ha Messrs Wilson and Heath.
1. LMS Royal Scot Class number 6152 "The King's Dragoon Guardsman" taking the identity of "Royal Scot" visited America before scotsman did.
2. GWR Castle No. 4079 Pendennis Castle visited Australia before scotsman did
3. Do people even know how much of Flying Scotsman is original? She's had 13 boilers and 9 tenders.
Awesome, thanks.

I loved the video, why couldn't this come out in 2022 tho when he turned 100
I think Flying Scotsman the 3rd A1 was the first built by thr LNER.

I just hope for there 100th birthday there painted into liner green again!
His birthday isn’t until February 24th. But still, Happy 100th Birthday Flying Scotsman.
Great locomotive. You should do another Q and A video.

Can't believe it will be 100 at 23rd feb
8:18 Missed opportunity to put General Election of 1970 on Anakin's face

Imagine a tank engine and the flying Scotsman Saves it
I love that this video is 19:23 long
It was worth pausing goldeneye to watch this
My Mates engine’s in Goldeneye, (not his at the time though) had a lot of good times behind 20188
It may be like Triggers broom but it's still The Flying Scotsman
I just found out that flying scotsman has the same birthday as me🎉
I have seen flying Scotsman about four times
national railway museum He's saying Save the question's treasure is it easy the flying scotsman
Awesome episode about Flying Scotsman's history since now we're entering the month of the locomotive's centenary.
Also, I really didn't like the new whistle sound after its 10-year overhaul because it's too ear-piercing.
4:51 the coupling of the between the locomotives tender and the coaches was broken
100 years and more to come
On a side note I consider her build date as her anniversary so it'll be Feb 24th 2023

how many times do you think Peglar had a go at driving the loco
Can't wait to be in Bury in 4 weeks.
I still find it odd that there's Gresley A-1s, A-3s and A-4s but no A-2s...
I like the fact that the video is 19:23 minutes and seconds long
Maybe we can get a Guide Rail on the ACTUAL first engine to go 100 mph, City of Truro.
Cope with your loss, Scotsman really did it, Truro was just a rumor
@@TheRealStikShady LNER propaganda
@@brenlc1412 it's facts, not propaganda
@Aussie Pom thanks for the info, you a real one for that
I'd like to see a race between City of Truro and Flying Scottsman 🤣 no rolling stock behind them, just a good old fashioned race
Great video! I'm actually working on a similar video, and finished recording the first bit last night.
Scotty is my adoptive brother in version of Thomas and friend
What song is this? 7:51
Sir William McAlpine did not go bankrupt
Ironically the Thomas characters are more famous than them and by extension Gordon is the most famous pacific
Why Has Anyone Never Questioned What Happend To Flying Scotsman’s Second Water Tender, Can You Do A Guide Rail On What Happend To Flying Scotsman’s Second Water Tender
its been donated to become Bitterns second tender, you can see it while shes having a overhaul
Shame both scotsman and Pendennis case can't be seen together this year as both are 100 years old and have ao g history together at various times we did celibate in 1973
How much of the original engine is left? Flying ship of theseus...
Funny how the video is 19 minutes and 23 seconds long, hmm
Sorry I couldn't make it max.
Scot had different numbers in the war to throw off the Germans
