You don’t remember the time that everybody canceled half of the drama channels. For associating with Rich Lux even though he may be a racist. Or when everyone thought spill sesh was Shane Dawson.
@@alertaidiota6227 Eh, we'll see. I don't honestly know if it's the same thing, but... this is usually the beginning of the end for most channels like this, but that's not always the case. No way to know something is going wrong internally until... y'know... it becomes external in some capacity.
you guys need to understand that the problem isn't that they're a corporation, but that they lied about who they were and then tried to silence anyone who called them out by deleting/moderating comments who pointed out flaws in their story. EDIT: every once and a while I get a notification about this comment thread talking about how horrible it is. So be warned when entering it. I’m forced to hear about it all the time. But it doesn’t matter because I’m right and companies are cringe
YES. The amount of comments on some videos do not make sense with how many views they have, they upload videos that reach 1M but have like 200-400 comments. Deleting comments is suspicious af.
Yeah thats shitty but I'm still confused on why the drama started at the very beginning. Why did some people care in the first place if they stuck to the facts and rarely opinionated?
@@directorredacted8408 Exactly, I don't really give a fuck as long as their content good and what I subscribed for. This is just a case of a common marketing tactic that is getting so old that I am suprised that anybody cares but no one noticed at first. It's amazing to me that people really out here feeling hurt and betrayed by an animated character voiced someone whom they don't even know. Like damn I don't give a fuck if they lied or they are a cooporation or whatsoever, yea they lied, but does that affect the quality of their content? Let's be real here, most of us wouldn't have subscribed if Spill was ran by an independent creator- because it simply wouldn't be what it is, no independant creator can keep up with that level of quality and consistency to make the concept of Spill work. I don't come on youtube to find a charity case or fund some starving college student, I just watch entertaining content without giving a damn about who made it, people are under the illusion that they have a personal connection with content creators or something, but the closest 99% of fans would ever get is to be with any youtuber is being one out of a couple thousand fans they hug and forget during one of their meet and greets, stop expecting so much from these parasocial relationships and just enjoy the free entertainment.
Yes, and they added irrelevant info about the creators and business history to obfuscate and hide the truth: that Spill/ Grill/ On the Hill have always been corporate- controlled channels. I think TRO underestimates the ability of corps to hire actors to make an "authentic creator persona." YT's future is probably corp-controlled content, not just directly like Spill et al (corp-owned channels) but also SPONSOR-controlled content (like Beauty 'influencers' who get $50k per 'review'). In the US #ad is required to identify paid promotions. Imo YT should disclose a corp channel's identity when it gets big, e.g., 100k subs. Products must list a manufacturer to be held accountable, and the same should be true on YT: list the source so we can decide what creators we want to support with our dollars & attention
@@scarlet8078 That's dumb. Pewdiepie alone probably makes more than all of AWED. What matters in content, and the people within said company are in fact still people and they are still creating something, online, and for free.
@@scarlet8078 you do realize that being corp means jack as it is easy ti become a corp enity. you can do it right now if you want. a lot of youtubers set them selves as corp as that comes with benefits to help you out, like bankruptcy aid etc. no offence but... cuz hollyhood makes it seem like the big boss ceo of corporate offices are the bug bad.. that is farther then the truth.
What bothers me about Spill being a corporation is the fact that TH-cam is trying to become more corporate friendly and demonetizes/cancels other creators that have no corporate backing. Spill, to me, represents the lifeless utopian future TH-cam is aiming for yet act like they are not a corporation. Spill is like someone saying they are self-made without acknowledging that they had the networks, funds, and means to create a successful business.
People will read your comment and _still_ say "wHo cAres iF ThEy'Re a cOrPoRaTioN" 🤦♀️ As if that doesn't _massively_ change their production quality, funds, research, legal leverage or literally anything compared to the small/individual TH-cam content creators they _falsely gave the impression of being in the first place._
Bruh that article also stated that you were a “political-commentary focused channel.” I’m 90% sure they just looked at your name and assumed you were some conservative TH-cam channel.
imma be honest here: the whole tea/commentary community seems like a really big nest of snakes to me and it's funny but worrying that they have to watch their back 24/7 to remain out of any controversy. seems like a really tiring way of living
I mean then again many of them started out as 'meme channels' by just making memes about other people and just trying to make a living off of being funny but now all of a sudden after they have had a good laugh teasing other "beauty gurus" they then started posting "THE NEXT BIG PALLET SCANDAL OWOWOWOWOWWOWOO!!!!!" Then that's when Spill came into the mix even after the urban dictionary made the word 'spill' and 'tea' set in stone. Which then basically meant ...'yup...this is a thing now...'😒
I watched her since the beginning and her voice has definitely changed. it sounded more like a young girl speaking now recent videos sound more like a older lady....
I've found that to be a pretty big selling point, namely in the instances when her collected and enunciate voice starts to tackle word for word excerpts of youtube/twitter comments. One of the latest videos she's calmly droning about the music industry when suddenly *INARTICULATE FAN GIRL NOISE*. Hard to get the kind of quality comedy in this day and age.
I quite liked Spill until they brought in all those other characters. It was just off putting to me and not my bag, like I was watching a kid's channel
I honestly enjoyed it, like they were having some fun with their universe along with stretching their genres. Maybe I'm just ignorant, but I don't see why it's off-putting, it's similar to how Marvel branches out their universe in movie genres, aren't they?
Her voice makes me think I'm watching WatchMojo or something, there's no emotion or actual personality, she reads it like every other corporate youtuber does, especially for Top 10 lists and the like. It's like she's reading a script and not bothering to sound genuine.
@@spoopysippy948 I don't think so! They have a decent amount of followers who I'm sure all enjoy the voiceover. Just different tastes clashing here lol
And you are right to feel that way, it's forced intimacy and a power dynamic. It's great for coercion and propaganda, someone that uses this to great effect is Contrapoints. Be very wary of people that use this, more than half the population.
I didn’t get that impression. Instead it just sounded extremely artificial. There is no way that will ever sound like someone trying to build a connection to me.
Ikr “soooo.... what’s the big idea?” It’s like we’re in a classroom wrapping up a lesson about photosynthesis Kind of thematically inappropriate for a channel focused on chronicling trashy provocative melodrama
I’m quite interested to see what this video entails. She is the only “tea” youtuber I would watch, and very infrequently at that, so I have no clue about any drama
a mouse lmao. i literally don’t remember typing any of this or watching any of the video. the last thing i remember was being like “ooooooh tro is doing a video on that tea channel i know imma watch that” and then i passed out edit: missed a word
And also, when she says “I have homework” or something like that, it’s referring to the fictional school she goes to... it’s a network of channels that have a semi-fictional setting ran by fictional characters. They even have a series with more obviously fictional characters in said fictional school. They can’t say “we are a corporation” because they want to keep that fictional setting as if the characters think they are real. Those characters and storylines can’t be designed in a short time so it seems like they have planned to be like that for a long time. I feel like people really over reacted to a cool concept and acting like it they got cheated
@@WeiYinChan the concept's really cool, but it's the fact that they tried to hide the fact that they were a corporation (deleting comments, saying they were 'a small team' out-of-universe when they weren't) is pretty suspicious. a tv show wouldn't actively try to hide that it was a production, right? obviously, people wouldn't like being lied to, and spill did exactly that.
@@acuponoodles9510 there is really no evidence of them deleting comment, they have in fact addressed that. And even if they are a company, it’s not a big corporation. There are plenty of companies out there who have less then 10 employees and that’s considered a pretty small team And I wouldn’t compare it to a tv show, I would compare it to a augmented reality game. The game developer design a fictional story line but leave clues in the real world for players to solve. The whole concept is that they act like they are part of this universe reporting on drama happening in this universe, acting as if they are real people in this universe, but they are fictional characters that are supposed to be going to a fictional school.
@@WeiYinChan while there's no evidence of them deleting it (because how /could/ you get evidence for that?), we have plenty of people testifying, saying that they /have/ in fact been deleting comments. compare their testimonies to the testimony of a company who's been accused of lying and hiding... yeah, not a very good look for them. watch d'angelo wallace's videos about spill-- forgive me if I get a few details wrong, my memory's a bit fuzzy, but he details in one of the videos that they have to have at least 12 employees to keep the channels and social media running, and even then I feel like that's way too low of a number to really keep pushing out content like this. they manage four /very/ active channels (spill, spill & matcha, brew and on the hill)(on the hill isn't super active, but even then they manage to be decently active with their posts considering they have three other active channels) and i doubt a small team can keep up with that many quality videos, what with burnout and having a real life outside of videos (not to mention that even during the start of quarantine, it didn't seem to halt their flow of videos at all, and it's pretty obvious that there's a lot of time put into those, because of research and editing) call it a tv show, an augmented reality, whatever you want-- it still doesn't change the fact that they /lied/ about things out-of-universe (talking about spill itself as a channel, getting real people [rolan] into their videos to talk about the company fiasco)

I like how this video went up less than 40 minutes after the Spill channel posted a new video, lol. Keep up the good work TRO. You, Blackwolf Productions, and Nerd City are some of my favorite creators.
I was suspicious the moment they tried to pass their drama channel as "educational". Dude, it's internet DRAMA. Stop trying to make it sound woke. That's like corporation marketing 101.
Being backed and funded by a cooperation so they had an upper hand from other creators (starting on their own in classic TH-cam fashion), and top notch equipment/editors from the start isn't really the problem. It's lying about it to begin with that's the problem. How's an audience supposed to trust the stories they are covering, if they can't even tell their own story truthfully and accurately. What did they want? Sympathy points? Style points? Lying is't worth it. It's hard to trust a channel rooted in information if they're caught in a lie.
Nina Dees Spill never lied. When she started she never said a single word but some claimed that she was going to reveal at 1Mil but some TH-camrs wanted to make videos to manipulate everyone to think this is bad when really it’s just.. *If you like someone’s content then feel free to watch. If you don’t like someone’s content then don’t watch.* It’s always going to be like that. But sometimes a story must be heard with REAL facts and not assumptions. If you don’t like Spill, fine but you need to think why are you believing a source that is not friends / ex -friends to the person they’re exposing. Why believe someone when it is not their story to tell? I don’t believe someone should be allowed to expose somebody else when they do not know them personally or know who they work for. As for actual news channels they ACTUALLY go to the source and talk to them to confirm the details of what they found. They don’t be like “oh look at this mess. Here’s what I think and take it for real because it’s exactly what’s happening!” *Don’t believe everything what you here when it’s from sources that don’t know a dang thing about who/what they’re talking about.*
@@MadoyaTatemano they even backpedaled when their own viewers found holes in their story and confronted them about it. the fact they lied in their first video is clear, and they ADMITTED to it having to retract their previous story and revise it. I'm not ASSUMING anything. they've admitted to not being 100% transparent, and that doesn't help with credibility from a commentary/news centered channel.
@@MadoyaTatemano Spill isn't even a real person. Literally a branded character and a professional voice over. If you want to be deluded, by all means do. All the information is out there and accessible. It's clear that spill is not a personal project but conceived by a corporation. Facts such as when the parent company was incorporated not lining up with the supposed age of spill. You are going about this like spill is a person. Spill isn't "someone". It's literally a branded character.
Madoya Tatemano But they didn’t lie. What is she lying about? Starting from scratch doesn’t mean you have to have a phone camera and shitty editing. And if you don’t like their content don’t watch it.
Well, I did some research on this. If you go to the credits on the description for one of Phsyc2Go's early videos (around 2 years ago), the Voice Actor's name is Lilyloo, to confirm this, I realized that they actually provided a PDF on every individual on the team. If you scroll down, you can see that there is a name called "Lily Loo" who is described as a voice actor for the team. Lilyloo has a Twitter but her personality on it is really skeptical to me as her professional tone on her videos on both channels are different on contrast to her memey personality on Twitter. Also, they provided a picture of her on the PDF and she looks a lot like what she sounds. So far, I haven't found any more information
Folorny Sphinx just because someone acts memey doesnt mean they cant be serious too. someone can joke around and have a mature voice, i dont see an issue with that... she probably knows when its time to work, and when its time to joke. thank you for the information though
They have had different voice actors and animators but at the beginning it were some girls talking to a camera from their rooms and then moved to animation. They also have a Patreon.
I like most “tea” channels for the most part but that one just rubbed me the wrong way. The voice is so sing songy but mechanical at the same time. I’d watch for the info then as soon as I hear “so what’s the big issue ?” I immediately click off
I watch Spill for a few minutes then click of at "So what's the big issue?". I feel like her channel is boring in some way. I can't watch her full video and feel bad for it-
Honestly, Spill and the associated channels always gave me more TedEd or Psych2Go style vibes. Fun and informative, with a bit of personality , but also sanitized and impersonal.
I’ve been watching spill for a while, never once did I think that she was an individual creator. I think there’s an element of judgement placed in looking after the channel. You can see that spill has different skills that unless you are some super amazing human there had to be a medium size group behind it
Long Schnozzed Tribesman yes but come on. No one person could be that polished at creating captivating content right away. They were going for it but did not fool everybody.
one person vibe went out the window due to the sheer amount of research put into each video, overall aesthetic and 2 more channels matching that same aesthetic. I mean believe whatever keep taking things at face value, its 2019 you dont need critical thinking skills.
I never assumed Spill was one person, but the content felt soured with the lack of transparency and corporate invasion of one of few remaining youtube niches that allow the average person to build an audience and income without all the bells and whistles. I haven't enjoyed it the same since. Plus, imo it makes it less impressive. This isn't research and production fueled by genuine interest and passion to deliver proper and unbias coverage of social events, it's just reading off whatever they're supposed to like a news host with a teleprompter. Might as well be TMZ with different packaging.
@Long Schnozzed Tribesman So, just because some people read into that vibe and choose to believe that, does not mean it's the truth. Spill never said it wasn't a company people just assumed it wasn't. It's those people fault and not on the channel's part.
Me too i always assumed there was at least 3 people on the channel. But i work on a production company so im more used to the concept of lots of people working for a single video. I mean even medium sized youtuber have to hire one or two editors, and channels with animations tend to have a main animator and their assistants.
Her voice sounds like a robot in a doctor who episode where at first the robot seems to be helpful but then it turns out that robot is part of a system that will spell the end of the doctor and his/her trusty companion(s)
Honestly, the reason I love TRO so much is because not only is he the type of person to say “this is wrong”, and leave it there. He explains how and why something is wrong, how the person/people can fix it and do it all with a little bit of humor. That is something that I can truly learn from and look up to.
I Know this is an older video I just wanted to give my thoughts. I stopped watching Cable T.V years ago, the thing I liked about TH-cam is I'm able to watch the content I want on my own terms without having to be in a certain timezone bracket. The problem with TH-cam now is we have those same Cable T.V companies that I escaped from trying to destroy the platform with massive spam advertisements & the same shows I boycotted from the start. I don't like Cable T.V, I like watching smaller TH-cam channels with real people & not the fake paid BS you constantly watch on cable TV!
Many people feel the same, and you know what it reminds me of? The twilight days of the Wild West. Everything is being cleaned up and organised, and yet you miss the days of real freedom and independence. TH-cam started out as a platform by the people, for the people, but became corporatised when the big guys caught up. I still have bittersweet memories of young internet - no worrying about government tracking or getting cancelled, but also lots of business of dubious legality. Also those weird things that you weren't meant to look up, like "blue waffle", extremely gory cartoons, also I accidentally found a terrorist beheading video when I was a kid... Yeah, I'm really not sure if I like or dislike where things went. I suppose it's inevitable, the cyberpunk dystopia so many people predicted is almost here and it's too late to do anything about it
I kinda like thier videos, but whenever they start "discussing the issue" part of the video, something always felt off and "unnaturally" sanitize for a TH-cam drama channel.
It feels like when someone is condescendingly leading you towards a conclusion they want you to have. Sure, many similar channels break down why they think a topic is important, but they don't spoon-feed it to you with a patronizing voice like Spill does.
also by having a 'clean' approach backed by educative and professional citations, it seems that they were likely to avoid pissing off the people they were discussing the tea about. Some drama channels have professional executions without resorting to black vs white conclusions but Spill seemed suspiciously neutral all the time. Of course this could be reach but it might've been because a corporation would try their best to avoid a lawsuit even though they are banking on the shady things a lot of very rich and influential people do.
Off? They're talking about the underlying issues in the grand scheme of things for each video with what they found. I didn't find their voice unnatural at all, it seemed more like trying to not put in their biases, something many drama channels have sprinkled in quite a bit. But of course, for those channels, that is their main feature, just as Spill's main feature is their mostly neutral research in bringing those underlying issues branching off of the drama videos they talk about.
@@FullMoonOctober lmao as if drama channels didnt lecture everyone on whats right and whats wrong and correct. They are always going after each other thats why its the shittiest community.
I thought it meant Temporary Restraining Order, and I was like, "Oh, they must call themselves that because they are covering TH-camr drama that the TH-camrs don't want aired."
The business student in me’s offended by the “business/legal issues” are boring. But this is a great video! Thank you! I like that they’re Canadian. It actually makes more sense as to why they’re so balanced. And I’m not really approaching this in the same way as TRO; more so through “business eyes,” and I think it’s a great start to Canadian media that focuses on more general current events and is less animated/cringey than blank characters. I worked in print media as a teenager, wanting to become an investigative journalist but being discouraged by digital media’s biased and opinion based content. Many Canadian young adults are consciously aware of the way media can be biased; it’s a really big deal to most Canadians when our own news comes off as if it’s pandering, or has malicious intent. I’m proud of them being such a big independent and unbiased Canadian media company on TH-cam. We needed this.
TH-camr: I'd like to keep my name private to avoid stalking Media: huh interesting anyway I just cross referenced his bank records with his social security number to find out his first middle and last legal name
I think it's unfortunate that Spill tried to act like they were some just college girl from modest beginnings because that damaged any credibility they built up. Spill is the best tea channel, but not because of the editing. The rest of the tea community is just horrible. What attracted people to Spill is the attempt they made to be unbiased. A lot of tea channels are exchanging currency with the people they're covering, social or otherwise. This is ironic because what brought them subscribers was rightfully calling out beauty gurus who do not disclose sponsorships and paid content. Before they were irrelevant and largely regurgitated threads from Lipstick Alley and Pretty Ugly Little Liar. Some of them straight up act like a PR team, and that became obvious when Jeffree Star's texts towards James Charles were leaked. The rest of youtube was disgusted, but not the tea community. Some tried to excuse it like Rich Lux, but many others quickly looked the other way after making well over a dozen videos on the drama praising Tati and Jeffree. It's all just so fishy to me and I don't trust them anymore than I do these big beauty gurus.
Isn’t it true that a number of them are legitimately on Star’s payroll or something? That’s what I’ve heard but I haven’t been invested enough to look into any of this, so it could just be rumors.
So have you seen the spill video they talk about this drama? I get that it's annoying they try to bring in the universe but they do give good information regardless them being a small corporation
I watch tea channels for the personality of the channel owner. Spill is the most boring tea channel out there, it completely lacks soul plus they viciously control their comments. I want my tea to have a side of draaaamaaaaaa hunnay and have a good laugh, it’s not that deep...
I just can’t watch the Spill videos, they kept coming up in my recommended and I watched a few, but it felt like I was being talked to like a kid, and the channel felt like a slightly patronising channel “educating” children. They way she speaks just comes across as someone explaining something to child with an air of “I know better, so here’s a dumbed down sanitised version of the story to help you understand...” It didn’t work for me at all, but it’s interesting that many others like it. I’m very sensitive to people who do this “I’m being completely non-biased and just giving you the facts in a journalistic way with zero of my own personality or opinions” etc, because it is extremely hard to give information in a genuinely non biased way- in most cases people can’t help presenting information and framing stories that fit with their own narrative or personal opinion...and I’d rather people just admit to having a bias and show their feelings. I didn’t find Spill non-biased at all, and it really wasn’t for me, it felt like school teacher who is used to dealing with kids trying to talk to adults- I could almost hear the fake smile and the voice seems so robotic and faux polite.
For people that was still confused this video was more about the concern that TH-cam has become more corporatist and how in the future there would be a possibility that more and more channel would be growing under the power of a corporation rather than an individual. I mean the site literally called TH-cam not CorpTube so it's a legitimate concern for this community and i think the reason behind this video is very justified and it's delivery was pretty on point.
Honestly other than Lying, to me the corporation aspect isn't why I don't watch them, whilst they do go deep and give lots of info all the videos they made were extremely serious and whilst some of the stuff that was covered was of a serious nature other things weren't and they always made it seem too business like and more somber than what it actually is; some petty TH-cam drama.
It’s that strange feeling that something is slightly...off. Like a subtle undercurrent of shadiness. Does anyone else think spill sounded a bit irked? Maybe I’m just judgy
They like to talk like they're giving a great gift to youtube by being a commentary channel that's BETTER than all the others because only they have a journalistic approach. Even though this video alone proves that they're not.
FullMoonOctober they ARE better though because every other drama channel is all “ooh girl she really tried it today mhmm shady shade smh can you say hashtag canceled okurrr” and are called out for being biased, hateful, and slandering. While Spill simply reports the facts, cites their sources, and remains unbiased. It’s why they’re so popular and continue to be.
Honestly I never even listened to how Spill's voice sounded like, I was focused on the video, well until now. Now that the drama begun, I just clicked on a video of Spill's and focused mainly on her voice and if it sounded like a robot, and it indeed did sound like a robot. I could hear this quiet robot-like sound in the middle of every word/sentence she said and it reminded me of what a robot sounded like.
When you become an LLC if someone sues you, ex: Shane Dawson LLC (Limited Liability) hits only his company fund. NOT his personal funds. Also, it's tax deductible lol.
Yesssss. It’s important to know the difference! My husband started a business and initially ran it as a sole proprietorship. We later realized that by paying a small fee, we could run it as an LLC. Which is the way to go. We were only making it legal because he was on house arrest, and needed to legitimize his business to run it/be able to go to private residences to work.
Honestly spill is the only "tea" channel I watch, i like the journalistic approach to youtube drama with all the commentary channels I watch, I watch enough things about drama so the kind of drama they do cover...I really like the format also the secondary channel brew is really good, i dont watch any of their other channels though, not my kind of stuff
@@squeakyratgaming I dont think anyone was saying the content was the issue, it was the lying and the bias that they don't admit to; instead shadow banning comments that disagree with them.

youtube is already a corporate enity. if creatores want to expand, and set yup a corp that is their business. ppl getting uppity over this are shallow ppl who just sit and bitch over everything.
"We had everything we needed, we couldn't get everything we wanted." This supposed rag to riches story sounds like the man was a brat, not someone who struggled. This pissed me off.
Yeah if you're living in a home and have clothes, food, heating, water, a bed etc it's not exactly living with "rags". Plus no one can get everything they want unless they're rolling in cash which every other person isn't.
Man it looks pretty clear to me that it was an attempt to explain like a moderate fashion that they were poor instead of saying "we literally couldn't afford bread" which would have been taken as hyperbole anyway, or "we were poor" which isn't very personal and doesn't have any punch to it. It sounds to me like you would have been pissed off either way.
TehCoopaTroopa Please. I guarantee that they don’t even know the definition of being poor. They just come off as entitled assholes and including this in the video was completely unnecessary. Edit: the reason they did is because it’s called “appealing to emotion”. It’s manipulative and a shitty way to try to connect with your audience instead of just getting to the point of the video in the first place. Oh, and honesty. There’s that.
Yeah, that's the feeling I got too. "My parents couldn't afford to buy all the latest and most trendy items, so I got a job but hated it because having a boss sucks." How can you be so entitled at 15 to not be able to take orders from a boss?
I couldn’t tell why I just lost interest in Spill awhile back until I saw this video. Perfectly sums it up. People want to watch creators they can trust, and who are honest about their opinions. With the addition of other characters, it just felt like there was some ulterior motive to the channel other than expressing yourself and/or being a journalist.
Growing up how I grew up I always wonder how people fall for this kind of stuff, but I always find myself falling victim to different corporate schemes that appeal to me and my cynical point of view... This is one of them and i'm glad that somebody is bringing light to this as well as other corruptions. I hate your channel name but I absolutely adore your content! Keep on keepin' on.
I legit was almost finished Spill’s video and I thought she sounded like a robot; scrolled through recommended videos and saw this video. A fan of yours already so this was a no brainer
ppl here saying "why should i care if they ~lied~ about being a corporation?" probably didn't watch this video even spill itself in their video explained why it's a bit troubling that there are a lot of corporations on TH-cam, hence, the irony
This is why it’s important to check multiple sources for your news/info because you never know who is behind a drama video or how they are trying to manipulate the information.
It’s just odd to me they apparently don’t make a lot of money as a company, they don’t earn money from their TH-cam videos because they don’t even try to monetize them, they barely post sponsored videos, and they barely promote their merch. So WHO is paying them? As far as I know Spill is their full time job, so how are they earning money if GoodGood and other things this company does isn’t very popular? I agree they’re missing out on a lot of money, but as a channel started from a business, it’s just not adding up to me why they wouldn’t be trying to earn money every way they can. Especially Rolan, who has a handful of people to pay who he’s pretty much responsible for. I know not everyone makes TH-cam videos for the money, but they’re a business so making money should be one of their biggest concerns
Maybe this isn't their fulltime job and really is a passion project? Just because they're a business (most charities are corporations for example) doesn't mean they actually make a lot of money.
Chris Topher and that could definitely be the case, but for them to include the inspiring story of Rolan growing up in poverty and then wanting to be his own boss and do work he enjoys, it would make more sense for him to be profiting off of work he enjoys doing instead of doing this just for fun. They’re definitely not a charity and he worked so hard on so many other projects that didn’t end up being successful that it’s just crazy to me they don’t even try to monetize their videos
My theory is that they are being paid by TH-cam (sound lame, I know). But think about it, they are taking away the whole drama of drama channels to make a "journalistic approach". This smells so much of TH-cam making the only "good" drama channel to take away credibility from other channels.
@@Faby07aleixo why can't they just make the content the way they like for the people who like it? Why should you have to like every drama channel just because drama is the topic?
@@christopher3287 because they are part of a corporation and corporations want money and results. Don't think for a second that if the channel flopped they would have let spill continue. This is not a passion project, this is a corporation. Also, I dislike a lot of drama channels, a lot of them are not for me. What I'm saying is, my theory (which is just a lame theory) is that they have affiliations with TH-cam to make the drama community more "family friendly" by making other channels loose their credibility. Spill whole team can make the content they want (is very well researched) I just feel like it's not genuine.
ive always liked spill, in fact she's the only drama youtuber im subbed to. i dont really care about youtube drama, but sometimes, it's nice to know what's going on in the community, and to get that info from a neutral source rather than some 20 something beauty diva in their bedroom with an iphone.
two years old comment, but this is exactly.... the whole reason tro made this video lol. spill is not a 'she', you obviously care about youtube drama because you stopped to comment on a youtube drama video defending your youtube drama source, and you think that spill is a 'neutral source' because they're not a '20 something beauty diva in their bedroom with an iphone.' I can only assume bulma_999 did not watch/listen to this video, bc this comment is literally a perfect representation of the worst side of this entire situation. who are you even referring to with the beauty diva comment? it must be someone you specifically dislike, because I'm not sure why a 20 something makeup channel is so offensive to you compared to a 30 something paying some 20 somethings to craft an artificially neutral and likable persona. if it's nice to know what's going on, why do you not care... what's.... going on? this comment is so bizarrely out of touch with the conversation here-- at the time and in the future-- that I wish tro could've worked it into the video as a perfect mission statement
Its totally possible that this was a passion project of a couple people working for AWED. That being said, corporations are NOTORIOUS for taking the rights and incomes from their employees relevant creations if they did ANY of the creation within the confines of their salary. An example (even though within a different industry), when I was in the shipbuilding industry we were always warned when we had ideas to work on it exclusively "off-the-clock." We were always told about one specific story about tungsten impregnated lead. I cant find a source or I would absolutely link it. I just wish that if that were the case they could have said. On the other hand, I feel like they might not have been allowed to tell that part of the story, per their corporation agreement.
I was getting that channel in my recommended since they had 70k. I noticed they'd basically doppelganger channels and topics that were blowing up on the same title. So for example, drama channels video about X gets a Mil plus, they'd duplicate the title and/or subject matter.
That's pretty much every channel in every genre. See "true crime" channels, "Weird Parts of the Internet" channels, "DIY" channels. It's like every Burger King across the street from every McDonald's.
I went through the same thing with Then and Now. It went from a fun gimmick channel with comic book-based media to another generic comic news channel that panders to Snyder cultists.
Whenever something pops out and gets successful, it is being called out as fraud or "too good to be true". As much as I can see regarding Spill. They are good at editing, drawing, narrating and stating facts and opinions on a certain subject.

21:00-21:31 Yeah I’m with you on that one, man. That voice acting is giving me serious My Story Animated vibes, and that is never a channel you want to be compared to in any way.
I do not like watching companies sell something on TH-cam when we deal with that every day on every form of media. TH-cam is for individuals, not for corporations.
Honestly, I really like spill. Personally, I like Brew better, and I've been following since that one was created. But I think their channels are cute, and I enjoy watching it as I do tv shows. But, maybe that's just me. But I really enjoy your deconstruction and dive into the understanding of everything. You also have the perfect voice for what you do. 👌
The point for me that made me question Spill, was that they said they were a 2 ppl project and than decided to be a company, but further looking into it is far from what they presented that's why I don't belive what they say plus they presented themself as not making any money from there youtube (money was a big problem for this company, well for Roland, the founder)
Also, somebody I know in Montreal knows that guy. He made money off of fraudulent telemarketing offices I'm told. So laundering could most certainly be a possibility.
Interesting video. I appreciate your content - partly just because it's nice to have a good British commentator (who can say twat correctly!), but mostly because I feel you give an interesting perspective from a different angle, and I feel you are just pretty open and chill, trying to look at stuff logically but still with a human being inside. @@directorredacted8408 Exactly, I don't really give a fuck as long as their content good and what I subscribed for. This is just a case of a common marketing tactic that is getting so old that I am suprised that anybody cares but no one noticed at first.
“Legal stuff is boring” pfft what a way to divert attention

They even have a series with more obviously fictional characters in said fictional school. They can’t say “we are a corporation” because they want to keep that fictional setting as if the characters think they are real.
There are plenty of companies out there who have less then 10 employees and that’s considered a pretty small team
And I wouldn’t compare it to a tv show, I would compare it to a augmented reality game. The game developer design a fictional story line but leave clues in the real world for players to solve. The whole concept is that they act like they are part of this universe reporting on drama happening in this universe, acting as if they are real people in this universe, but they are fictional characters that are supposed to be going to a fictional school.
@@WeiYinChan while there's no evidence of them deleting it (because how /could/ you get evidence for that?), we have plenty of people testifying, saying that they /have/ in fact been deleting comments. compare their testimonies to the testimony of a company who's been accused of lying and hiding... yeah, not a very good look for them.
watch d'angelo wallace's videos about spill-- forgive me if I get a few details wrong, my memory's a bit fuzzy, but he details in one of the videos that they have to have at least 12 employees to keep the channels and social media running, and even then I feel like that's way too low of a number to really keep pushing out content like this.
they manage four /very/ active channels (spill, spill & matcha, brew and on the hill)(on the hill isn't super active, but even then they manage to be decently active with their posts considering they have three other active channels) and i doubt a small team can keep up with that many quality videos, what with burnout and having a real life outside of videos (not to mention that even during the start of quarantine, it didn't seem to halt their flow of videos at all, and it's pretty obvious that there's a lot of time put into those, because of research and editing)
call it a tv show, an augmented reality, whatever you want-- it still doesn't change the fact that they /lied/ about things out-of-universe (talking about spill itself as a channel, getting real people [rolan] into their videos to talk about the company fiasco)

Tro when?
Shookbang had drama with SAS ASMR and Veronica Wang a while back. I think that got cleared up, but yeesh.
Soon we'll have to go back to books.
@@dunyazade and by that time i’m sure the authors or somethhing will be scandalous, or there will be ads pushed onto you through books. :((
Preach!!! wedgoku.
@@FullMoonOctober so im*not* the only one who thinks that!!
also by having a 'clean' approach backed by educative and professional citations, it seems that they were likely to avoid pissing off the people they were discussing the tea about.

Atleast all the other ''tea channels'' actually has people behind the camera with their own personality and opinion, DUUUUUH.
MizLaFrance spill is to inform people and doesn’t cancel people with biased “proof”, dumbass

Thank you, you get it 😭🙇🧎
Honestly other than Lying, to me the corporation aspect isn't why I don't watch them, whilst they do go deep and give lots of info all the videos they made were extremely serious and whilst some of the stuff that was covered was of a serious nature other things weren't and they always made it seem too business like and more somber than what it actually is; some petty TH-cam drama.
Iron Lamb Trueee 👀

The only solution for now is to create resilient co-ops to compete with the corpos. Let's turn TH-cam into BreadTube.

TehCoopaTroopa
Please.
Lol right? Middle class to riches isn't as aspirational I guess

With the addition of other characters, it just felt like there was some ulterior motive to the channel other than expressing yourself and/or being a journalist.

hi some. oh yeah yeahhhhhhh
ppl here saying "why should i care if they ~lied~ about being a corporation?" probably didn't watch this video
even spill itself in their video explained why it's a bit troubling that there are a lot of corporations on TH-cam, hence, the irony
Spill whole team can make the content they want (is very well researched) I just feel like it's not genuine.
ive always liked spill, in fact she's the only drama youtuber im subbed to. i dont really care about youtube drama, but sometimes, it's nice to know what's going on in the community, and to get that info from a neutral source rather than some 20 something beauty diva in their bedroom with an iphone.
two years old comment, but this is exactly.... the whole reason tro made this video lol. spill is not a 'she', you obviously care about youtube drama because you stopped to comment on a youtube drama video defending your youtube drama source, and you think that spill is a 'neutral source' because they're not a '20 something beauty diva in their bedroom with an iphone.'
I can only assume bulma_999 did not watch/listen to this video, bc this comment is literally a perfect representation of the worst side of this entire situation. who are you even referring to with the beauty diva comment? it must be someone you specifically dislike, because I'm not sure why a 20 something makeup channel is so offensive to you compared to a 30 something paying some 20 somethings to craft an artificially neutral and likable persona. if it's nice to know what's going on, why do you not care... what's.... going on?
this comment is so bizarrely out of touch with the conversation here-- at the time and in the future-- that I wish tro could've worked it into the video as a perfect mission statement
To know what's going on in the community, and to get the information from natural sources rather than 20 to pull in their bedroom with iPhone.

"How people expect these people to be in contact with TH-cam when they can't even contact Raid: Shadow Legends" 😂

The point for me that made me question Spill, was that they said they were a 2 ppl project and than decided to be a company, but further looking into it is far from what they presented that's why I don't belive what they say plus they presented themself as not making any money from there youtube (money was a big problem for this company, well for Roland, the founder)
