As always thanks to Charlie and Barbara. Too bad they decamped to Rice. I guess they were made an offer they couldn't refuse. Then again, who needs one more Chicago winter?
As I understand what happened, Rice offered Charlie and Barbara a studio with fewer students and more money. As you say, an offer they couldn't refuse towards the end of their teaching careers. Northwestern made a big mistake by not trying harder to compete, which is a habit of the NU School of Music! (PS, most of these players have gone on to have outstanding careers with major symphony orchestras. For example, Matt Barker, who did this excellent arrangement is currently with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and apparently doing quite well.
