I've always kind of thought that the villains in the movie were just bad attempts at actual characters, so they changed the names and made them new characters instead. Blade was supposed to be Triklops, Saurod was Kobra Khan, and Karg was Trapjaw. It never really bothered me, as the new characters were cool, too. Glad to see they were welcomed so openly.
Since they reused a preexisting figure they should have put actual doll hair on it to make it look more accurate - like the Ultimate Stripe has from NECA. We for sure need the rest of the movie characters - Evil Lynn, Beastman, Duncan and Teela as well as the storm troopers and Pig Boy!
With an upcoming movie it is hard to tell what we may see from Mattel. Nostalgia is a very big thing now a days so with an upcoming movie who knows what we may see coming from Mattel, I don't believe this is the last we see from the original Masters of the Universe movie.
I honestly doubt it. The merchandising push is likely to be centered around whatever the new movie does and even if they were going for the niche nostalgia market, they'd likely start over with more core characters leaving the 1987 movie way down the list.
And Karg was much shorter too so I feel you on the beefyness smh still a great review. I dont collect heman figures but who knows perhaps we'll get a movie accurate Man at Arms someday he was always my favorite as a kid👍

As much as I'd've liked a Beast-Man, Evil-Lyn, or Lubic, I'm just relieved I don't have to repaint the previous Karg to get a movie-accurate version. I reckon if Super7 is allowed to do more movie figures down the line at some point, we could get three more good waves out of the movie characters. Detective Lubic, Beast Man, Evil-Lyn, Warlords, Comm-Techs, Teela, Man-At-Arms, Sorceress, Pig-Boy, Eternian Lubic, Air Centurions, and perhaps a variant like Whipping Boy He-Man, "Disintegrating" Saurod made out of translucent red plastic, or Muddy Gwildor with bucket o' ribs and grappling claw.
Once again, awesome review, Dan. I actually like that Karg has that stronger look to him. I always thought he was a skinny runt in the movie and I didn't like his character. I do agree with you though...Evil Lyn and Beast Man would have been excellent. But think of the figures, vehicles or playsets we never thought we'd see? There's probably a good chance we'll see those two eventually. You never know what the future holds.
Oh, don't mistake my "I wish we got another character" as me not being thrilled with what we did get. Like you said, this line gave us so much that I never thought we'd see! I love it.

Do they have the reptilian Saurod? Because I'm still sadden that he got killed by Skeletor instead of Karg in the movie. However Karg did say We were Outnumbered.
Super7 HAD to have been planning a wave 2 of these movie figures. I think Having Karg allowed for all the new sculpting on the other three figures. Hoping somehow some way that we get more!
Great video as always! As to Karg’s beefier look, I don’t think we were ever going to get the short/thin version because that would have required a new sculpt. The whole line is also based on the idea of the old toy line that essentially used the same buck/proportions for everyone. As to getting a different character, my understanding was that they would have continued the line and Karg allowed them to include a figure that would keep the price point down while allowing folks who missed him the first time to get him. But Mattel pulled the license and they couldn’t finish it. My hope is that Mattel will eventually allow Super7 to finish these up. Fingers crossed...
I wonder if when Mattel reclaimed the license from Super7 to do Origins, maybe Super7 has one more wave of 4 figures on deck with Man-At-Arms, Teela, Evil-Lynn and Beast Man. Maybe one more wave of club Grayskull of filmation figures as well... As much guff as he got, this line really started going to hell when Scott"Toy Guru" Neitlich left Mattel....

This figure absolutely deserved a very different small buck. If this is the end of the line I feel like they should of gone all out and given us this and at least beast man.
TBH I feel like they already did go all out as far as new sculpting, tooling and especially deco for this wave. At some point, the budget does still have to come into play.
As a kid growing up I used to own the movie and I used to like it and I still watch it a lot. I prefer Beastman and Blade that guy with the sword who I thought was very cool and the silver armor. I did like those guys those two villains much better and I grew up with seeing Beastman in the cartoon. But not that it matters I honestly this whole time I thought that Karg was like this short runt but also I like to point out that this whole time I honestly thought that this character was a female in the movie I thought it was a female creature.

The reason he is included in the wave is because he is a cheap repaint and thats why we can get cool new stuff with the other figures in this group. Never realised how much i disliked the original version until I see the new one side by side. Great review
I missed out on the first Karg and wouldn't have been happy with having a non movie version of him anyway so I'm not complaining. I would have preferred Evil-Lyn. As far as Beast Man, Karg was more memorable as far as the movie for some reason. Also, Karg's cape makes him a bit top heavy. I would have loved a 2nd wave with the remaining characters: Duncan, Teela, Evil-Lyn & Beast Man.
Can't lie, this is by far the least exciting figure in this wave for me (like you, I kind of feel like it's redundant and taking up a spot), but they did a good job with the movie inspired deco (as always)

Not liking the movie at all, I have no attachment to this character or this figure at all. I'm glad I have He-Man and both Skeletors. I will sell this figure.

I noticed movie Karg's hook looks like a number seven from the right angle. Kind of fitting if these are Super 7's last MOTUC figures.
This was the 1st movie I saw in theaters. My dad made a big deal out of it for me. I was 4 at the time. Was a good time for all :)

KARG I remember on the original cartoon series was a red dragon creature by that evil wizard called AZROG, who was the enemy of ORKOs uncle, MONTORK.

Not liking the movie at all, I have no attachment to this character or this figure at all. I'm glad I have He-Man and both Skeletors. I will sell this figure.
man....I broke down and ordered Heman and Skeletor because of being a fan of He-man, liking Lundgren and kind of the corniness of the movie but Will not plan on ordering the rest of these figures despite the details. I think Evil Lynn would have been huge...well, not to me, but for real fans of the movie
