      Interesting. The one in our line up had a very high UMF & MGO rating, so this may well mean extra oomph on the medicinal notes, but I would certainly recommend trying some of the others too. Delicious!

    I've only had Manuka and the Greek thyme. I loved the Greek honey. I got some once from a Greek farm. Wow. I ordered some of the Leatherwood. Heard it's quite tasty and similar in medicinal value as Manuka honey. Not a huge acacia honey fan, but it tastes decent. I want to try the heather. I'll order a bit once I've finished from the ones I've got.

      Thanks for sharing. Great to be able to taste a honey while on location! The Leatherwood had an incredible bouquet to it and definitely one to try, but I couldn’t eat a lot of it. Tried a few Heather honeys since the taste test and none compare to the Heather Hills Farm one on the video, so would deffo recommend that one. I literally can’t stop eating it on fresh baked scones! • @thetastetestchannel
      @thetastetestchannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for sharing and I don’t doubt it! Manuka honeys will naturally vary to some degree, and depending on their strength, UMF, MGO etc, floral honey tones will come through in some more than others. The Kiva and others I’ve tried are certainly overwhelmingly dominated by medicinal tones, but some people may like this taste anyway and there’s nothing wrong with that! 👍😁

      @@thetastetestchannel yes I like the video and I like seeing the tupelo honey getting recognized in different places.
      Back in the 80's and 90's down in the Apalachicola wild life management area.
      The bee keeper had to make 10 foot tall electrical fince around the hives to try and keep the bears out of the honey.
      They would take the electrical fince boxes made to run 50 miles of 1 strand of fince.
      And make a fince about 10 feet high and 20 ft square. For the fince to be hot enough for the bear to pay attention to the schok.
      And that didn't work all the time.
      And there were stories about bee keeper getting chased by bear when the would go to the hives early or leave around dark.

    based on my very limited experience, I like the "wildflower" honey. I mean, I have zero clue what "wildflower" rly means, but I tend to like it better, whatever it is.
    I was staring at the bottle of it (after pretty much forgetting that I got a different kind of honey while especially appreciating the taste of it one day and wondering why) next to clover honey and it had an almost reddish hue to it; like rose gold.
    It seems to be a bit-less-sweet tasting, more complex, and VERY floral. It was like I could smell/taste a little field of a few different flowers.
    The very-sweet single dimension of clover honey makes me a little sick after a small bit.

    • @thetastetestchannel
      @thetastetestchannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well you certainly get top marks for your evocative and poetic description!
      Wildflower honey literally means the bees have gathered nectar from whatever they can find; wildflowers, gardens, window boxes etc. as opposed to a dedicated local source of one type of flower. It’s often darker than single source (monofloral) honey and while varying in flavour can often produce real winners! Thanks so much for sharing and hope you enjoyed the video! 👍😊

    Heather honey is thixotropic, meaning it tends to be in a gelatinous state. It isn’t thick because of the beeswax content. Beeswax in liquid honey rises to the top. It’s unable to do that in heather honey. Manuka honey is also thixotropic.

    • @thetastetestchannel
      @thetastetestchannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I try not to get too complicated in the video. You are correct that Heather honey is thixotropic, but by nature of this, when it is extracted, most producers press the honeycomb. In doing so, particulates of honeycomb are left in the honey and, due to the gelatinous state that you mentioned, it prevents it rising to the top. It is these inclusions of honeycomb particulates that I particularly like about the Heather honey featured in this video. Interestingly, there are some producers that take the time to extract and filter the honey, leaving a surprisingly runny Heather honey, but I don’t think it’s as good!
      Thanks for commenting and have a great day 👍😊
