    Such an overlooked watch line. Seiko showing that when they really want to they can still deliver. Nice casual but not completely dress watch.

      I was looking at the Presage line, then moved on to look at the Grand Seiko watches. I immediately noticed several of the Presage watches seriously resembled Grand Seikos, especially the dials. The GS watches were still finished even nicer, but the 'Prestige' lines of Presage watches is gaining on the lower end GS.

    I have the SARX057. I bought it for the very reasons, & more than what Mark pointed out. Cannot be compared to the SARB. Not to nock SARB. Flawless perfection top end Seiko piece. Easily worth the money. One of the Cadillac watches in my fleet.

    I have the SARX035, which is almost identical with the exception of the titanium and the writing on the dial. The AR coating really is something special. You have to see it with your own eyes.

    I just received that SARX 057 and it was my first upper scale Seiko piece. After buying a green dial Presage cocktail and just never feeling it as the picture and shots taken look way better, the Sarx was the only way to go. I liked it so much I had to grab a white Spb165 or SARX 075 with that Hemp Leaf textured dial which like the Sarx was as close to a Grand Seiko as you can get. Two beautiful pieces at very reasonable prices that are extremely versatile that they can be worn in so many different situations. I have always felt Seiko dress dials are some of best in the game but now having two models on solid above average bracelets for Seiko. For the time being I feel I am well prepared in the sport / dress watch situation.
    Definitely recommend as do so many, stunning pieces by Seiko.
    Thanks again Marc for the videos that you can go back and check

    Dial looks very similar to my Sarb033. Finishing on both watch dials is amazing! Sarb033 does have a little loom on the indices and hands. No AR coating on crystal though.

      @Antony Mort I don't doubt your words, this is just the first time I've heard of a sarx or sarb that wasn't high quality. I didn't see any imperfections on the watch in the video, did you? (This isn't meant to be a loaded question, I'm genuinely interested. I'm also aware Marc could have opened a few different boxes)

    • @ionutgeanta8741
      @ionutgeanta8741 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Antony Mort mine has a blemish on the seconds hand, the tip of it is not as polished as the rest of it, looks a bit rough. but only on a very close inspection and even then at certain angles to catch the light properly. it doesn't bother me at all, as the rest of the watch looks impecable. the dial does have a matte finish, but seems to look a bit glossy in the light. never seen something like this before, and i love it

    I've been reading up on the Seiko global site about the Presage line (which they split further into a 'Basic" line and a "Prestige" line. They have released some really interesting watch series in 2020. The most beautiful (and pricey) is a limited edition one with a porcelain dial that they describe as the look of "the moon on water". Just the steps to make the porcelain dial was interesting reading and definitely ratchets up the cost of the watch. I did end up breaking down and ordering a Presage "Negroni" cocktail series in a deep red-black dial. Marc, I promise, next one will be from Long Island Watch!

The AR is similar but not as good as what Orient Star use unbeliveably ! They have the Super Anti-Reflective SAR coating, supposbly the best there is. Roleks owners eat your heart out !

    Thank you for showing these. I was looking at these when you announced the giveaway. Out of all of your watches, these 4 were exactly what I want. I have 8 dive watches, including the new Phoibos Bronze Leviathan 45mm I just purchased from you, and I only have one Aviation watch, which is a Jack Mason Pursuit 42mm. I absolutely love micro-brands and want one of yours. My favorite is the all black with the white hands and orange seconds hand. If I won the contest, I honestly could say surprise me with a ISL 45- ISL 48 and be completely happy

    I have the SARX055. I confirm the AR coating makes the crystal invisible at the right angle. The polishing on the indices and hands is astonishing. It looks like silver or chrome, but apparently just highly polished steel or titanium. I put on a leather strap and it is uber-comfortable. The only downside is that the movement loses about 4-5 seconds a day.

  • @scottparis6355
    @scottparis6355 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have one of these, and the crystal is truly amazing. Puts all other kinds of anti-reflective coating to shame.
    I wonder if the process is so expensive that it couldn't be applied to less expensive watches; it would be a huge competitive advantage on a $500 watch. No one else has anything like it.
    If I think about it, I'd pay another $50 or so extra to get this on a $500 watch.

    You need to go upto 3k and get a Breitling to get similar (lol, Mark mentioned this on the video as I was typing it) AR coating. Now, it is not only a nearly invisible AR coating, it is very tough too. I banged my sarx055 on my son's birthday. Titanium got deep scratches but no lines on the crystal. I then tried to soften the scratches on the watch by polishing it, and the crystal still has its AR original coating. Good times.
    As for the sarx057, that deep black is just gorgeous. I thought it was going to be completely overshadowed by the other snowflake texture, but I was wrong. I own both, and those sarx are the last watches I would sell.

    • @giusepperocchi2979

      I think Sinn can do the same, if not better, at about the same price.

    • @izayus11
      @izayus11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@giusepperocchi2979 which model? I think, contrary to popular opinion, that Sinns are overpriced for what you get. But I've only seen a 104 in the flesh: guy sitting next to me on flight let me handle it. I don't think they have top coat AR, do they? I was rather underwhelmed by the 104. Aviator themed, legible, countdown beze... Should have been a home run, but instead it convinced me to pull the trigger on a Oris.
      Don't get me wrong, if I ever see a 104 on a 5 row bracelet under 800, I'll get it.

    I wish they made a non-grand Seiko that has the spring drive. They used to. I love the spring drive. I would never pay 1000 for a Seiko that has 6r movement. I don't see how this rivals swiss watches when the movement has a lot of issues in case you did not know there are plenty of complaints of the 6r movements. No micro adjustments is a bummer and I know a lot of Grand Seiko watches with bracelets do not either. Half links are not easy to put in and out the same day say if the weather gets hot or cold, so much easier to made an ajustment on the fly. You would think for 1000 dollars you would have some kind of easy link system to adjust easily. Something like the Grand Seiko divers have, you can adjust on the fly to make it a little larger or smaller.

    @helloworldstein 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    The watch itself is very nice. It’s well built and is very attractive. What isn’t attractive for the price is the movement. For $1000 you’re getting a standard beat movement with mediocre finishing. For that price most other companies are offering hibeat, well finished movements (either Swiss or Myota 9015, some are even offering 80 hour power reserve COSC certified chronometers for that price). For a multi billion dollar company it’s disappointing that Seiko keeps trying to nickel and dime when it comes to their movements.

    • @islandwatch

      I don't agree. Who offers a full titanium dress, known Swiss brand, for a Grand?

    • @helloworldstein
      @helloworldstein 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree the titanium and case finishing is beautiful but micro brands are able to offer that nowadays (and some lower tier Swiss brands like Mido and Rado too). I’m not saying that as a “aha got ya” kinda thing, I understand the economics are different for micro brands. All I’m saying is Seiko being the manufacturing giant they are, could easily afford to upgrade their movements. Instead they’ve been slowly putting worse movements in more expensive watches. As a reminder the 6r family of movements used to be a $300 to $400 class movement but now seiko is presenting it as their $800+ movement.

    • @helloworldstein
      @helloworldstein 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also Seiko has a solution in their beautifully done 6L35 movement. But instead they reserve that for watches that cost $2000. With Sellita and Myota providing extreme price pressure to a market that was once almost exclusively reliant on ETA 2824s, I’m not sure how defensible it is to say it’s okay to put this movement in a $1000 watch. It’s unadjusted out of the factory. The finishing is no better than most 4R series movements. The power reserve is lower than claimed from empirical testing (see RelativeTime and other youtubers who tested it). Idk, it’s just not for me but I understand why people like it and that’s okay.

    Hey man, I wanted to ask because you seem to know a lot about the new SRPD lineups. I just got one in that chain mesh bracelet, and the bracelet itself is very nice, but the clasp sucks.
    I've had to bend the engagement tab in the clasp a few times to get it to hold tighter, but I'm worried my new watch will end up crashing to the floor eventually. Is there a way to change just the clasp on a chain bracelet? There's no springbar like a normal oyster bracelet or leather band would have.
    Thanks!!

    It is a beauty. Plays with the light exceptionally well. However, the exhibition case back is completely unnecessary for such an uninteresting looking movement. I was hoping to see some decoration, perhaps color at this price point, but no siree Bob. I would prefer a decorated case back over this. Thanks for the review Marc.

    The watch looks great but the 41mm size is just too big. If this watch was 40mm or slightly below and seiko used a clasp like new sarx077 with micro adjustment, it would probably be the perfect watch?

      To be fair watches like Rolex used to be priced way fairly back then. I remember an American soldier deployed in German in 1960 who bought a Rolex before going home and it cost him $120 (using inflation calculator it's around $1000 in 2020). Now a new Rolex will cost us $10,000 at least.

    how many crown winding turns do you do for your 6r15d? Is there a safe range?

    • @simoncrooke1644
      @simoncrooke1644 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably about 40 but you can't overwind an automatic as the spring is not anchored like a manual. Just wind it until it starts, and probably a few more, then put it on your wrist and enjoy life.

    • @islandwatch
      @islandwatch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just keep winding for about 30 seconds.
