    I've always heard that in these 'lotto houses', the owner doesn't account for the ongoing maintenance, property taxes, & just the regular day-to-day expenses, & before they know it, the money's gone but the bills are still coming in.

      Got that right! In this country, you never ever really own your property outright. The taxes that keep on draining your budget.

      I think what people need to keep in mind… if a lotto winner redid this house in 2003 that means they lived there for around 21 years. So, maybe they just downsized after their children were grown or something.
      Also, this house has been recently updated in all the bathroom within the last 7 years or so. So, I am going to say they were not broke. Just put the house on the market and a developer bought it.
      Nice video Ethan!!!

    I recently inherited a large sum of money and the 1st thing I did was contact a friend who is a financial advisor. I was planning on buying a house before the inheritance, but the money opened my options. My friend and I sat down and discussed what was financially feasible for the long term. I’m also approaching retirement age and that had to be considered. I bought a nice house that needed only minor updates, paid off our cars and set aside money for the grandkids. Now, if I don’t live past 104, we can live quite comfortably and should be ok. Think it all out and don’t get to crazy.

      Trust fund under Indemnity. Open it in south Carolina. Dependin on amount, 55,000 intrest yearly on 1million. 3 million 165,000 intrest. I would put 100,00p back in and flip to 4 million in ten. Also, trustfund set up well, allows your grand children quarterly income. Not everyone tells you good advice like that. I hope u research. Look into it. Also, under indemnity. If divorce or something like that. Money stays in your family. U will need an executor. Choose your most practical child and that child choose another to over see account. Investments.

      @Inkironnrum
      Google financial advisors in your area, then get on the BBB website and check out their reputation and success rate. A few things to consider is how much they charge for advice and their success rate. I was lucky because my advisor was a childhood friend who only charged me a grilled steak dinner for him and his wife. He advised me to invest in the market with stocks that paid dividends, create IRA accounts and not to buy large ticket items I didn’t need, i.e. a car if my current one is good. I’m old enough to start a Roth IRA that is tax exempt. Depending on your age, I would start a Roth IRA and let the money sit and make money. You have to be at least 59 1/2 before you can take money out tax free. My best advice is take your time, research your options and don’t quit your job. One last thing, don’t loan money to friends or family, you’ll never see it again. Good luck

    This is the mistake most people who come into a windfall make---they blow their money on unsustainable things like huge homes, several automobiles, boats, campers, pricey furniture to put in their homes etc. What they should be doing is sitting down with a professional investment group to devise ways to make that money work for them and create more income. Sure you can treat yourself to a couple of luxury items but budget that money to work for you instead of blowing it all.

    • @CharGorilla
      @CharGorilla 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really depends on your own level of financial competence. So called "professional investment groups" are great at making newly minted "high net-worth individuals" feel special, and convince them that they offer a "premium service" that's only available to the "1%", and charge extortionate fees for moderately performing investments like blue-chip stocks, or worse yet even investments that lose money like "green technology funds" or "unicorn IPOs". Then you've got you're crypto bros, and other professional crooks who are there to ensure that "fools and they're money are quickly parted". The truth is, if you got rich in a way that you didn't earn it, you won't understand how to manage it. Even trusted friends will be jealous of your windfall and if they aren't going to gain substantially from helping you, are just as likely to have you lose it, merely out of spite.

      That's why I think it's bad architecture: when you have 200 square feet of dead space having no definite purpose in a room, it highlights nothing but a wasteful appreciation of perspectives. Why making the kitchen so cramped in such a huge open room, for example? It's as if they thought cooking had to be assigned to the shame corner, haha
      When you see everything from the entrance, your pieces of furniture must look so small it gives dollhouse. Wide open spaces work only well with hallways. From an esthetic and ergonomic standpoint, it is not a very good postmodern home. In comparison, this same style house Ethan explored was much more cleverly conceived: watch?v=1B3NQWyIg4U

    • @Polemodrome
      @Polemodrome 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SuperNevile
      That's correct, and there seems to be no end of these Mcmansions with nonsensical floor plans. Nowadays, there is no reason to have a bar at home. How often is one going to use it, if he's not an alcoholic? Four? Five times a year?
      Before the 2000s, it was more customary to use own house to socialize with a lot of guests, friends, relatives or colleagues. People used to hang out face to face more regularly, and then multiplied the occasion to knock down drinks...
      It's like having a pool table at home, it seems cool on the paper but who's gonna be willing to drop by and come play with you?
      In this era of social medias, people generally prefer to stay in touch through a computer screen.
      Ecologists nag us incessantly about the cost of energy and the need to spare it. And while they often annoy me with their lecturing, I am with them on that one. Nobody not being the cast of Downton Abbey needs a 15K square feet McMansion with large solarium, high ceilings, 15 bedrooms (for people who never come to visit) and 4 living-rooms... Mostly in a region with long and cold winters.

    Anyone who wins or inherits a large sum of money needs a financial advisor. They would have been told from the start what type of house in what location would be sustainable financially in terms of taxes and upkeep expenses for the long haul. An actually “budget chart” would be drafted on say what the winner will want to use the money for… new car, vacations, new house, kids educations etc. and will show how much money can only be spent in order to avoid something like this. I read about a local guy who won 3 million dollars only to go broke in a year by taking rap singing lessons to actually illegally buying a tiger. Friends and family needed “loans” too plus this guy bought several cars, RV’s and boats. Maybe people are under the misguided impression they will live off the interest while they are totally depleting the principal.

    Pretty cool house Ethan. Great they’re salvaging lots of stuff but still lots of waste left behind. Mostly large spaces inside but perhaps it lacks a bit of warmth. Would have been cool to see before renovation. The kitchen
    Makes me a bit nervous with the balconies. The fireplace a bit too much of modern design. Nice bar area and great entertainment space. It’s neat to visit but I would need it to be refinished with a bit more warmth and color. Thanks for sharing. Take care be well and stay safe!

    Hi Ethan
    Words like HUGE and MASSIVE really do describe this house. They must have
    had at least 1 maid. This house has it all. They didn’t spare any expense fixing
    up after the fire. They went a little overboard and ran out of money. It’s a shame
    because this beautiful house with all its charm is sitting empty awaiting the
    well known wrecking ball. It seems like if a house is empty for any length of
    time it has to get demolished. That’s so wrong. At least they are repurposing
    the doors and all else. I was afraid those guy’s were going to come in while
    you were there.
    This was a nice find on your part Ethan. You always do seem to find the best
    for us your subs. Thank you for sharing this lovely house with us. See you in
    the next one until then stay safe and well.👍🆒. This was way COOL.😊

    What's one of the first things most multi million dollar lottery winners do after they win? Build or buy an insanely huge mansion! They never seem to factor in the continued costs afterwards: property taxes, maintenance, utilities (the heating bills must be astonishing!), landscaping, etc. Before you know it, all the money's gone.I
    This place is more commercial looking than anything; it almost looks like a school.

    I heard a story about a young guy who came into a lot of money from an accident. He got a job working offshore and got his foot cut off when he slipped and fell into a shaker machine. He was 21 when it happened. After the lawsuits and attorneys were done he ended up with close to $4M. The guy did everything wrong that you can imagine. He built a huge house on his grandparents property that was surrounded by mobile homes. He blew money like crazy on wild women who all tried to decorate his house with outlandish carpets and vases and statues. He got hooked on drugs. Cocaine i think it was. Eventually he ran out of money and couldn't even afford the electric bill for the big house. He couldn't sell the house because of it's location....of course nobody would buy that. With his last bit of money he had left he bought a single wide mobile home and set it up on the property next to the big house and moved into that. All of this only took 2 or 3 years and in the end he was left no money, no women, no house and no foot. Well maybe he had a fake foot.

    Hey, Ethan, are you doing? Hope you're doing well. And no more call Tiff gotten you down. You know, I've sent you a couple messages before. And it's still amazes me how they can come in. And just tear down all these beautiful, older homes. There could be rehabbed fixed up and sold. I mean, I've been watching you for a good 68 months. And I love that you do these older homes? I'd rather have one of these older homes. Fix it up and live in that. Then these new modern style homes. Then older ones are more cozy. They're more just all around beautiful homes in the craftsmanship. Yes, 10 times is better than this n New stuff. I just hope you keep doing what you're doing. Cause I enjoy watch you document all these homeless before they're torn to shreds. I hope you are you able to find More of them Older homes. Stay safe, try to stay healthy. And I look forward to watching many more videos that you put out. Thank you for doing what you do, Matt from Michigan In the states..

    17:39 As a traditionalist, I have had a difficult rapport to postmodern architecture as well. But I can now see its merits, even though it's not my cup of tea.
    When it's executed amazingly, the artful placement of niches, skylights, holes, beams, arches, nooks and windows brings a stark contrast to the simplicty of the floor plan. The house becomes like a formal abstract art piece as far as your gaze goes. The problem of this one, is that it has so much space to play with, it is laid out without much imagination. The spatial constraints while staging perspectives are what make the architectural style so vibrant.

    In Croatia, Europe when you buy real estate, you pay a tax of 2% after the purchase, the amount depends on the price of the real estate, and that's it.

    Hey Ethan, good find! I live in a MCM home and this one is has none of the classic features, warm wood finishes, architecture, etc of a MCM home. Looks to me like a "McMansion" built in the 80s. According to investopedia," The appearance of McMansions began in the 1980s and continued through the 2000s up until the financial crisis. McMansions initially were built as statement pieces rather than practical places to live. They so were built with cheap materials or poor construction to check off must-have items like a pool or bonus room." Fits, right? Also, if it was initially MCM, they may have killed it with the 2003 reno. Gotta say, I find it cold and rather ugly. A shame how some lotto winners blow it all when they could be financially set for life. Anyway, thanks for sharing and I subbed - I like your authenticity:)
