Otherwise I think that the pragmatic Czech naming prefers Kombi simply when the rear is boxy vertical, and Estate is considered a UK translation of it; Sedan when the rear is a stair that is pretty much symmetrical to the front (all the "backs" are just forced upon Czech speakers and we just accept that these liftbacks and hatchbacks are some translations of our Sedan); and a Coupé if the rear has a diagonal, tilted, but otherwise rather linear shape. Only the basic external shape matters, the usage of the trunk or doors is inconsequential for the name.
so many cool features and small details, is wild seeing how skoda does better interiors now than the *luxury* brands nowadays that only know to do cost cuttings
I wish my MK8 GTI had those Skoda climate controls, makes the cabin look clean, but also makes it so useful. Also the rear headrests are a great idea. I would like to see that on all new cars (Especially other VW group cars)
A great car. I just hope Skoda do a proper right hand drive conversion for Ireland/UK/Aus/India/Japan markets. Given the hefty price increases lately I would like my handbrake, bonnet release, usb c port (for dashcam) and accessories switched to the other side whereas VAG have a bad history when it comes to doing that right.

Thomas, is the eTSI 150 HP engine enough for the Passat, but not for the Superb? Multimedia works fine in the Passat, so maybe the Passat has some advantage. Which car would you choose, the Passat or the Superb?
All those sub menu's (like the DCC) look and function identically to the current Octavia with the MIB3 infotainment. They've just added shortcuts along the top edge. They just have more space to use and have given it updated home layout.
Thank you for review. I enjoyed every single minute. For me the car looks nice. That huge panoramic roof is a great addition for me. Hope we will see 2 liter TSI petrol engine with the 280 HP on the German autobahn. Thank you for all great job.
Overlaying the temperature on the display when navigating through Carplay is rather possible with the iOS privacy settings. Have you tried it with Android auto?
Thanks for the review, as usual nice work! @11:00 My 2012 Passat B7 has coasting function too - zero fuel consumption, it just glides. You can enable it in the menu once and it is always on. How's that related to mild hybrid tech then?
Thanks! This 1.5 TSI with DSG is MHEV for a long time already even in the Golf 7. The high speed coasting afaik can be done also without MHEV, but the low-speed coasting is connected to MHEV function, but indeed i ll check with engine experts next time !
@@autogefuehl interesting! Telling from experience - it will coast at any speed as long as the gear box thinks gear 3 (in DSG6) is appropriate. So for example if you're accelerating to 20km/h, you're in the second gear but if you'd stop accelerating Gear 3 would be selected to maintain the speed - if you lift the throttle completely the car will coast. Will double check this later today :D
I rechecked with VW. The difference is that _without_ mild hybrid you can coast, but it will just go into neutral and the engine stays on in idle mode. with the hybrid technology, the engine is shut off while coasting plus it also works at low speed when you’re approaching a traffic light or something and also then the engine is shut off
Hmmm I am confuse with my S4 mild hybrid 48v diesel I have a behavior looking more the first I think? It feel like neutral, but the engine is so insulated at low rpm it may actually be off…
The only thing I would like to see added to these reviews are a look at the rear centre console. I can see that there is one, but it's an important addition for those who mainly sit in the back
Seems way much nicer inside than the Passat (in my oppinion)

I hate the floppy curtain in the roof. I owned a Peugeot that had that. Drives me crazy. Also, the fact that the whole screen goed black every time when you use apple carplay or android auto when you set the AC temp is a no go. It's simply not finished yet. That should be a simple overlay.
Hope Skoda will release a full-electric version of the Superb. I love everything about the Superb & Octavia except their powertrain; I really don't like turbo-charged engines, and adding direct-injection makes them even less reliable.
The rear quarter panel/ section is so like the Ford Mondeo . . . .its a bit . .meh! But the real elephant in the room is the cabin noise in Skodas, its terrible!!! I had a Superb Estate/ Combi, wonderful car in every way but the noise, terrible at speed. Wife had a Skoda also. Wanted to keep it, but I had to sell it. I drove the Skoda Superb saloon/ hatch at work recently . .just as bad. The Passat I bought afterwards was a clear step up in refinement and comfort. And the A4 is another step up again.
Hi Thomas, great review as always. Question: Is this car able to turn right/left by itself (change lane) when we signalling accordingly? Meaning, if we signal to the right then the car will steer to the right by itself when safe to do so. Please share or test this. Thanks
You should press the button first to let the umbrella close, and then pull it back to the end until you hear the click sound. Do not pull it back without pressing the button first, it will cause the damage.
@@Robertkajman Did you drive them both or are you just a fanboy spewing? Škoda has a shorter wheelbase while being longer. A fair comparison would be in order.
I'm a saloon type fan and wonder why VW stopped this variant in the new Passat? It's no brainer: buy Superb. And if Skoda cancels the saloon Superb and Octavia then they've simply lost a customer. The maths are simple.

Great review as alawys! Regarding the boot / trunk: 1. Is there a slot to hide the cover under the floor? 2. Is a vertical net available as an option (with no need to cut holes in the roof lining to attach the upper hooks)? If so, can it also be stored under the floor, when not in use? Both 1 & 2 are available in BMW 3 Touring for reference, some other cars also have space for one of the two mentioned above, but it's hard to find an estate with dedicated slots for both the cover and the vertical net. 3. Any way to achieve real flat floor? Like lift the upper floor and fold the seats a bit more to get rid of the ridge, followed by an incline?
@@autogefuehlThanks, helped just a tiny bit, as the boot floor in this video is higher, so I looked it up and indeed - it's adjustable. As shown here th-cam.com/video/mqpuWloQLt8/w-d-xo.html Still points 1 and 2 aren't clear. I appreciate the option to hide the luggage cover under the floor when the need arises "somewhere" and I cannot just leave it at home before departing. It's the same nonsense as with with extra 2 seats and no space for the cover (yeah, I still have an S-Max as well), when you actually need to use those :D I saw no openings for the vertical net, but I know it was available in the previous generations, hence I assume it's a nasty process that with the net, one needs to cut the holes in the roof lining next, using templates provided etc. (or pay in the authorised service to have it installed). Edit: I've checked in the configuration tool online - same thing - the vertical net is available as an accessory and only then they install the upper holders to attach the net. So far, in this particular aspect, 3 Touring seems to remain the best. If only I'd be anyhow into current BMWs... Especially with the price difference not reasonably explainable.
How it is compared to old Superb? I was test driving one, two 2021 L&K and 2023 Edition and the suspension was really noisy is this any better in this one?
Does the superb have double glazing acoustic windows similar to the passat or is that option only available for the passat? Are the acoustics comparable?
Thank you for showing us just how good Skoda has become. I remember when Skodas were considered in the same breath as Ladas and other Eastern European terrible cars. This is not the format of car I want to own, but I respect what they have done with this. Once again this car asks the question what are you really paying for if you buy a premium brand?
Nice review. No 280 L&K model or a full EV? I have a 2.0Tsi 280 L&K (combi) & it's the best & most practical family car I've had. This new Superb will be a great buy in 2.5 years time which is when I buy my cars. 50% of the price when new.
They have absolutely massacred the instrument cluster with those super large bezels and that pointless sun shade... VW not letting Skoda to be nice all the way... shame...
Thank you for another great review Thomas! I know VW has to make things "worse" for Skoda to avoid it cannibalizing VW sales and they used to do that by offering smaller (power) engines. Now it seems that the engine choices and outputs are the same (and even the DCC is available for Skoda) and the only intentional differences I noticed are the two screens (the infotainment and the instrument cluster). While for the infotainment I personally don't care about its size that much and I certainly welcome the physical climate knobs over the Passat, it feels to me that the instrument cluster is simply horrible considering the car's aspirations and in comparison with the Passat. You didn't show it too much (why?) but from what I see that bezel is horrible and it looks (washed-out colors, low res and limited customization options) like a 10yr old Hyundai infotainment system. Any thoughts on that?
Biggest problem with the new passat is its only available as a 1.5 in the uk market its not powerful enough for that weight of car. So probably hurt sales
The sad thing is that on paper that power is fine, there are plenty of 105 bhp 1.9 TDIs still on the road hauling vans and the Mk1 Superb around, and the 140 bhp common rail diesels that followed were considered a good upgrade if you had a large caravan, so 150 bhp is plenty. The problem is a small displacement petrol engine with a big turbo has to be screaming to get to the point in the rev range where power peaks, while the passengers are barely be aware when a diesel is hitting peak power because it's doing it all at much lower revs, making the experience of getting the good out of the engine very different and a lot less relaxed in the petrol model.
@peglor I doubt the 1.5 would last very much passed 100k miles as its working so hard. Also the bigger issue is the weight of the b9 has gone up considerably from the b8. Especially with the bigger hybrid battery vw should rally have developed a 2.0l hybrid instead of this smaller hard working 1.5
@peglor literally no point in buying the passat over the skoda superb in the UK as skoda just started taking orders and undercutting passat price by 2k and you can get a 2.0 193 diesel in the superb which makes far more sense then a 1.5 petrol in the passat
Im on my fourth Superb. Latest SE L estate bought in 2022. its about as perfect a car as I would want. I really do not like the dash styling and big screen. Ill probably hang on to my current model as long as possible. Probably my last Superb.
@@autogefuehl I have a question, When will you do a Subaru review? I know its the odd child of the automotive world but i would like to see your take on it.
Hey! I would love to do that, the problem is that in Germany we hardly get Subarus, their Press department is not into digital media, and we also get the cars extremely late

I really like that Ice Tea "Yellow", although it looks green in Skoda's car configurator. So am I right that this colour impression comes close to "ice tea" made with green tea and lemon? Great, comprehensive review, by the way 😃
I wonder why VW didn't give the 2.0 tsi 2 cylinder mode, the bigger the engine the more effect it has, cause still over 100hp per 2 cylinders rather than 75 of the 1.5. It's enough power to sustain moterway speeds.

Simply Superb
I wish my MK8 GTI had those Skoda climate controls, makes the cabin look clean, but also makes it so useful. Also the rear headrests are a great idea. I would like to see that on all new cars (Especially other VW group cars)
A great car. I just hope Skoda do a proper right hand drive conversion for Ireland/UK/Aus/India/Japan markets. Given the hefty price increases lately I would like my handbrake, bonnet release, usb c port (for dashcam) and accessories switched to the other side whereas VAG have a bad history when it comes to doing that right.
For 50 000 euros few years ago you could buy good new camper which you can drive but also live in it ,now you can buy Skoda
Four years ago you could buy brand new BMW 5 series 2.0 diesel automatic with leather seats and look at it now.
Inflation is rampant plus cars keep getting all the new gadgets. It is like the blades of a scissor opening...
@@bokibo87 I watched review off new BMW 5 series lately and in the end off video they sad, price off this model on test is 100000 euros.I laughed , i thing i will keep my E93 until wheels fall off
This car reminds me how I knew your channel back in 2015 with the last unveiling event of the third gen Superb.
👍😎 awesome!
A lot of car for the money. Great video!

Honest review, with pointing 👉 out any design hiccups 🙄? Also Living in New Zealand 🇳🇿 gives you a better idea 💡 about the Skoda Estate.
cheers m8 !
11:11 love the Coasting on Octavia... needs some time to get used to at first, but then it's amazing - and the fuel consumption drops significantly
I think it definitely looks better than the new Passat - both on the inside and on the outside.
Hey Thomas, i still miss come review of Citroen C5X, thanks!!
At first glance it looked like Thomas got hit by a car in the thumbnail, but was still happy about it 😄
It looks like better than dn8 👍
You were funny with that flimsy umbrella😂
=)
@@autogefuehl It looks so cheap and ugly, fuuu
To close it, you have to press the button again and then just shorten it 😉
The umbrella is not bad quality, when you retract it you should press the button again. It is two way automatic😃
two way automatic? Wow! I ll check it out next time, thanks! As for quality, I was more referring to the base metal cage, the wind immediately caught and deformed it
@autogefuehl Yeah, on the structural side it is flimsy, just a little bit more info from a Skoda owner! Really appreciate your videos!🔝
Cheers, i ll show that feature next time !
For the first time in my life I wondered if I will buy a skoda as my next car 🤔, ps thanky tou Thomas ans the team for a nice review
I don't understand how Skodas designs interior and exterior so on point yet VW have fallen so far behind. These designs remind me of the MK7.5 golf era design VW used to have simple, yet beautiful
Will there be Scout edition?
I would have expected the Kodiaq to be tested first. Looking forward to that one, especially the PHEV!
Yes, tanks you Trash Bin for help with HUD :D
Thank you for review. I enjoyed every single minute. For me the car looks nice. That huge panoramic roof is a great addition for me. Hope we will see 2 liter TSI petrol engine with the 280 HP on the German autobahn. Thank you for all great job.
Superb looks better inside out than the Passat.
Overlaying the temperature on the display when navigating through Carplay is rather possible with the iOS privacy settings. Have you tried it with Android auto?
Skoda always thoughtful with the features
Will double check this later today :D
hehe defo interesting topic, i ll try to elaborate on that
I rechecked with VW.
I can see that there is one, but it's an important addition for those who mainly sit in the back
gotcha !
Thank you!
SUPERB (A) presentation !😉
😎👍
Did they remove the auto-hold or the button is in another place?
Seems way much nicer inside than the Passat (in my oppinion)
I hate the floppy curtain in the roof. I owned a Peugeot that had that. Drives me crazy. Also, the fact that the whole screen goed black every time when you use apple carplay or android auto when you set the AC temp is a no go. It's simply not finished yet. That should be a simple overlay.
Push the button top close umbrella!!! The quality are very good on Skoda.
i will do in the next review :)
This thing with the id7 drivetrain would be my dream station wagon EV.
How come that people love these big screens? I find it really distracting while driving. I love my 2016 Superb screen, perfect sizing.
You're right. I will hold my breath till they facelift it and bring the screen and gear selector where it should be
Hope Skoda will release a full-electric version of the Superb.
I love everything about the Superb & Octavia except their powertrain; I really don't like turbo-charged engines, and adding direct-injection makes them even less reliable.
yes only for you and 5 other buyers maybe in eu
The rear quarter panel/ section is so like the Ford Mondeo . . . .its a bit . .meh!
But the real elephant in the room is the cabin noise in Skodas, its terrible!!! I had a Superb Estate/ Combi, wonderful car in every way but the noise, terrible at speed. Wife had a Skoda also. Wanted to keep it, but I had to sell it. I drove the Skoda Superb saloon/ hatch at work recently . .just as bad. The Passat I bought afterwards was a clear step up in refinement and comfort. And the A4 is another step up again.
does 1.5tsi have dq200 or dq381?
Great review as always. Thanks 😊
Hi Thomas, great review as always.
Question:
Is this car able to turn right/left by itself (change lane) when we signalling accordingly? Meaning, if we signal to the right then the car will steer to the right by itself when safe to do so. Please share or test this. Thanks
You should press the button first to let the umbrella close, and then pull it back to the end until you hear the click sound.
Do not pull it back without pressing the button first, it will cause the damage.
Hello Thomas, great review! The more I see the Superb sedan, the more it reminds me of my current car, which is non other than the Passat CC!
The price is now almost equal to Volvo V60. It would be interesting to see a comparison test.
Skoda is better because more comfortable and much bigger.
Still doing first class reviews Thomas !
Good cars. Just wish Skoda Australia would offer a diesel variant again here . The last Superb Tdi variants were sold here until late 2019 / early 2020. The Kodiaq RS Tdi departed in 2021 . We don't get much in the way of engine choice here

Great review as alawys!
Regarding the boot / trunk:
Thanks!
Hm not sure, maybe these trunk iterations in this video help?
th-cam.com/video/ugSnGG8LmzI/w-d-xo.html
@@autogefuehlThanks, helped just a tiny bit, as the boot floor in this video is higher, so I looked it up and indeed - it's adjustable. As shown here th-cam.com/video/mqpuWloQLt8/w-d-xo.html
Still points 1 and 2 aren't clear. I appreciate the option to hide the luggage cover under the floor when the need arises "somewhere" and I cannot just leave it at home before departing. It's the same nonsense as with with extra 2 seats and no space for the cover (yeah, I still have an S-Max as well), when you actually need to use those :D
I saw no openings for the vertical net, but I know it was available in the previous generations, hence I assume it's a nasty process that with the net, one needs to cut the holes in the roof lining next, using templates provided etc.
Hi hope you are ok
What is the ice tea yellow like????
Which is the best colour you have seen??
Thank you 😀😀
If you squint at the front it is nearly identical to the previous generation BMW 5 series
Does the superb have double glazing acoustic windows similar to the passat or is that option only available for the passat? Are the acoustics comparable?
Is it possible to take an acustic package ( double windows) for Superb?
Thank you for showing us just how good Skoda has become. I remember when Skodas were considered in the same breath as Ladas and other Eastern European terrible cars. This is not the format of car I want to own, but I respect what they have done with this. Once again this car asks the question what are you really paying for if you buy a premium brand?
thanks m8 !
Could you tell us the base model, you review plus the extras witb cost and total cost of the review car.
Nice review. No 280 L&K model or a full EV? I have a 2.0Tsi 280 L&K (combi) & it's the best & most practical family car I've had. This new Superb will be a great buy in 2.5 years time which is when I buy my cars. 50% of the price when new.
I am trying to understand why anyone would prefer the Passat over this? 😊😅
They have absolutely massacred the instrument cluster with those super large bezels and that pointless sun shade... VW not letting Skoda to be nice all the way... shame...
Nice review. like it. What would be ground clearance of this car in mm?
What's in the area behind steering wheel between dashboard and the "roof"? Looks like there's just a hole there?
Nice review as always, but comparison with the BMW 5? Not that I like the latter in its current incarnation but they are not comparable.
It's wonderful but how reliable is it?
Tbh i’d buy this over a passat in a jiffy.. also they finally switched out glossy black buttons for matte ones on the wheel
@@interceptor-ss8kb No replacement for displacement 🙂.
Probably my last Superb.
thanks for the review. does it have air outlets in glovebox and armrest?
thanks! I ll check next time!

Would you recommend buying the Superb over the Audi A4, from a long-term ownership perspective ?
From a „get more space“ perspective 😄
I really like that Ice Tea "Yellow", although it looks green in Skoda's car configurator. So am I right that this colour impression comes close to "ice tea" made with green tea and lemon? Great, comprehensive review, by the way 😃
I wonder why VW didn't give the 2.0 tsi 2 cylinder mode, the bigger the engine the more effect it has, cause still over 100hp per 2 cylinders rather than 75 of the 1.5. It's enough power to sustain moterway speeds.
