The Zealot makes me feel so nostalgic. I used to play Diablo 2 on LAN with my High School classmates after class (we saved our files to diskettes). We always set up with me (Zealot), 1 Auradin, 1 WW+Fury Barb and 1 Strafe Amazon. Aura stacking is so much fun especially with characters that hit really fast. I remember we were just running nonstop Hell Diablo and Hell Baal just to farm. Good times. And that was like 2002-2003. I feel old.
ive been watching your vids while working on my frost zealot, currently 62 @ act 5 nightmare, ive been messing with this game since i was 12-13 and im 24 now, and this is the first time ive gotten past normal diablo/a4 lol. it really just took patience and research. thank you for all the help!
Hey MrLlama. In 2019, I played MedianXL as a melee sorc out of nostalgia of D2. I then stumbled on your guide series thanks to TH-cam algorithm tracking my MedianXL searched history. I love them all. Little did I know that all that knowledge would served me with the announced released for Resurrected. I’m not only hyped right now but also up-to-date and feels pretty confident that I’ll be able to efficiently grind my way to hell baal by myself (minus the map staying set as I plan to play online).
Remember the "old" Zeal talent, when you got one extras swing for every level and it didn't cap at 5? You attacked a single, fast enemy that's close to you and it runs away before you hit it, but you kept standing there hitting the air anther 19 times! That were the times! xD

Thank you so much for covering the progression as well as endgame Edit: Last time I tried a zealot, I made it through NM with aldurs with amn for life, then got absolutely rekt in hell :( Now I'll give it another go. (New to d2 and absolutely loving it, started with d3)
The weapon from the Alder's set is good for early on, then Headstryker, Razor's edge, or Runemaster. Also Oath runeword is really cheap to make, the hard part is finding the eth cryptic sword. I was so happy when I made my Oath, it was a huge upgrade.
I appreciate that you talked about the mid and early game with several examples. I just got back into diablo. Anyhow I kept holy fire until nightmare countess. I think it helps with farming the nightmare countess.

A Zealot was my first character 20 years ago. I found a Unique Scimitar and took it all the way through Nightmare where I ended up finding a Bloodletter (Gladius). It was unique so it had to be great right? Right? I didn't know nor care that it barely dealt any damage and the game isn't supposed to take days per act and month's per difficulty. Good Times.
Go Paladin zealot was my first Diablo character. The 20 point in zeal having 20 hits and getting stuck in a 20 zeal swing animation was peak performance gaming.
Very nice summary of the possible gear options. The only thing I would add is Marrowalk boots. When I run übers, I rather use that one over gore riders due to the extra life tap charges. I have a combination of HoZ+Dracs. So things can get toasty while I am waiting for that 5% chance of life tap if I fight against maphisto for instance. With marrowalk, I can start the fight with a charged Life tap and during the fight dracs will renew it continously. For trash, dracs alone is complety fine.
Love the concept of the guide, what would you think for the next ones of going briefly over the pros and cons of the build? Like what a zealot does better and worse than a hammerdin for exemple
While watching this great video, I thought of a suggestion for you to ask of VV! A QoL feature! When scrolling over your item to see it's stats, have the stat range shown on the item so that way you can know if you have a "perfect" version of that item. So if it's Chance guards, the item would say 40% Magic Find (25-40%). This feature I believe is also in PD2.

My brother in law handled the rune words and such for me because it was sort of beyond my scope. I'm getting in shape for Resurrected. Like the build up in Dragon Ball before a big fight. Gonna drag my friends into this one and it's going to be magnificent.
Really enjoying your videis mate! As someone coming back to the game, a small thing that will make this more accessible to a wider audience: try to define the acronyms when you first use them. You used "IAS" for 5min before you said attack speed, at which point the penny dropped and I could catch up. Starting with IAS, or increased attack speed... lets newer viewers keep up without (I hope) slowing the video for seasoned vets. Keep up the good work, hope the remastered version treats you well!

For a chest I personally rly fell in love with duress - resist, HR, 33 % OW and 15 % CB and it is dirt cheap. It's a chest that you can replace if you want to, but I never rly wanted to.
Instead of shopping for 20% IAS gloves, I use Sigons gloves and boots to get 30% IAS as well as 10% Life Steal. A golden combo for levelling a zealot. Normal Mephisto drops it quite often.
One weapon I have often dropped for some reason while playing zealots is Aldur's Rhythm from the druid set, I always found it works quite well for nightmare, base dmg is decent, it has life leech, mana leech, 30% IAS, and comes with sockets for further tuning

Honestly zealot can farm anywhere mostly (minus where phys immunes exist). He's less of a "Hard farm" character and more of a go kill stuff anywhere and have fun. Bigger issues will also be places with decrepify and such

Holy Thunder (Eth/Ral/Ort/Tal) is another good early leveling weapon. Not as good against bosses, but it gives you 21-110 lightning damage, +3 to holy Shock, +60 lightning res and +5 to max lightning res.
Paladin was always kinda like Necro, you kinda have to be familiar with the game to fully utilize their curses\auras and know where and when to use one. I saw so many Necromancers back in the day who only spammed Iron Maiden and no other curse.

Wouldn't you want to max sacrifice more than zeal because the damage bonus from sacrifice is more than leveling zeal and the amount of hits from zeal caps so there's no extra benefit? I'm pretty new so I feel like I'm missing something

Noone ever mentions Peace rw in guides as budget option armor. Why is it so overlooked? It is super available and critical strike Oskill is pure gold. For something like a fury druid a case can be made that it's the best endgame choice even.
No mention on Schaefers? :( Also insanely good weapon with some IAS tweaking jewels, Shael etc. If memory serves you could get the 4 frame with it also
Also with soul drainers you get -50 to monster defense per hit which is a huge help with bosses if you are having a heck of a time hitting them as well as the regular monsters and elite packs etc. I see that you have the Sexy res with that HOZ. Actually Sanctuary is Mal KO KO not KO KO Mal lol. Also famine is also an option for phys immunes if you have the base and the runes to make it if you don't want to put 1 point into vengence however Vengence is much easier to put a point into vs getting the base and runes for Famine if you decide to go that route. Also another good weapon is Cressant moon because of it have static field proc on striking chance which is very useful against bosses.
Bis for zealot pve is 'death', fort and a 120/45 in bone helm. Preferably visionary mod in it but gl finding that thing. Exile is also horrible for zealot compared to phoenix. Grief is also very wrong. Sheesh this reminds me of the one of the cookie cutter zealots back from like 08 or something when noone knew how to build it. The tier 0 build for zealot is Death/phoenix/fort/gores/vamps/120/45 (3 soc ias jewel) w/ visionary mod. The point of this setup is to reach a specific break point with attack speed. This is normally reached with ebotdz but death doesn't have IAS. However, death as a rune word is strictly better you just had to min max gear to get it to a different level. Lmao, doesn't even bring death up as an option, very cookie cutter

I played long time ago and didn't get very high level but I do remember having a ton of life steal so if I had something to hit I was practically invincible. The only problem was iron maiden curse. Don't remember - Does life leech get weaker in nightmare and hell?

Nord's Tenderizer is an amazing pre-runeword weapon for this build that can be found in late Nightmare or Act 1 Hell.

Fools mod weapon is what I have used on my Zealot damage/accuracy based on level and you can throw a ias jewel in it

The tier 0 build for zealot is Death/phoenix/fort/gores/vamps/120/45 (3 soc ias jewel) w/ visionary mod. The point of this setup is to reach a specific break point with attack speed. This is normally reached with ebotdz but death doesn't have IAS. However, death as a rune word is strictly better you just had to min max gear to get it to a different level. Lmao, doesn't even bring death up as an option, very cookie cutter

You get double the % dmg from Sacrifice, so its more wise to max it and keep zeal at lvl one until thats done.

Zealot or whirlwind whats better in pve?
I played long time ago and didn't get very high level but I do remember having a ton of life steal so if I had something to hit I was practically invincible. The only problem was iron maiden curse. Don't remember - Does life leech get weaker in nightmare and hell?
