  • This is our walkthrough of the Quakertown Farmers Market in Quakertown, PA from December 26, 2020. This is an older type of retail space that you used to see a lot more of back in the 1960s and 70s. Mostly filled with local shops and small businesses, you'll be hard pressed to find many chain stores here. Despite the lack of national brands, the place is fully occupied and gets a TON of foot traffic. QMart, as it is known by locals was founded as a produce market in 1932 by farmer Stanley Rottenberger.
    Songs used in this video (in order):
    Rhythm Heritage - Three Days Of The Condor
    Philharmonic 2000 - Moonshine
    Mladen Franko - Melancholy Girl
    The Syd Dale Orchestra - Flamingo Parade
    David Marriott, Jr. - On the Seventh Day
    Steve Gray - Wonder Groove
    Steve Gray - Reach Out
    Being an older local shopping destination, there isn't too much in-depth info about the place nor a Wiki page. Here is a link to their official website instead:

    I'd like to say a few words about being an ambassador to your local malls. We have been taking the time to visit all the malls within a reasonable driving distance to check up on them and see how they are doing. Also filming an updated video every year or so, regardless of the lack of many changes, just so there is a video record of the health over time. We think this is an important thing to keep tabs on, especially in these wildly turbulent times. The current health emergency has accelerated the impending Retail Apocalypse we've all been talking about these last several years. This was already a big problem, but the shutdowns and restrictions have made the issue 5x worse and likely hastened the death of the enclosed shopping mall.
    I know we've all been on pins and needles wondering how bad the fallout is going to be from all of this.
    There really is no way to know exactly unless we ALL go and do our small part to make it known how it turns out. I implore you, if you have the means to pick an area you would like to be an ambassador for, and go document your local malls. Whatever your medium, it doesn't matter, any and all documentation is necessary and vital in this day and age. Whether it be on Social Media, Flickr, TH-cam, any platform gets it out there and preserves it for posterity. We can't paint this picture unless we all grab a brush...

    This right here. I loved everything about it. Loved the commercials. Loved the walkthrough. And loved fhe fact that a place like this still exists. Reminds me of my childhood, when the Union Market, Route 18 Flea Market, Valley Fair, and many others were around. They had EVERYTHING in there, for a one stop shop experience. So many family memories. Thanks for this!

      Route 18 was one of the best indoor markets, at that time.
      I also use to go to the US 1 flea market by the river.

      After US 1 flea market closed, we went to the international market on route 18.
      It had a lot of venders when it first opened.
      When I’m back in Jersey, I enjoy Columbus Farmers Market and the Berlin Farmer’s Market.
      I still go to QMart but not too often as it can get busy and many don’t wear their masks.

    As a person who grew up and lives in PA, this "farmers market" is quite common all over PA. This looks to be one of the nicer ones but if you know where to look you will find similar ones all over PA. Some outside, some inside, some a mixture of both. Never been but seems like something to check out if i'm ever in the area.

    I use to set up at the flea market, when it was in the front of the market.
    It was both indoors and outdoors.
    Still visit a few times a year and can always find something to buy.

    When the pandemic is gone, do you have any plans on filming malls in Canada?

    • @RawRealRetail

      Not at the moment. It is something we really want to do, but it's looking more domestic for right now.

    I've been here a few times. It's okay. Now if you want some really good farmer's markets, take a drive across the bridge to New Jersey because both Bordentown & Berlin have amazing ones. Also since I know you're from PA, have you ever been to the Amish market in Bristol? Might be tough to film on account of the Amish not being big fans of being photographed but they got some really good pretzel logs.

    • @RawRealRetail
      @RawRealRetail  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Been to the Bristol Market many times. They have excellent food and homemade candies. I agree, filming is out of the question there. I have ancient footage of Berlin but would like to get back there again for a more proper thorough visit.

    Quite the neat little concept.
    How in the world did this place manage to get an Auntie Anne's?

    • @RawRealRetail
      @RawRealRetail  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Auntie Anne's started out in another PA market, the Downingtown Farmers Market in 1988. I suspect its meteoric growth overshadows its humble beginnings.
