It literally took us YEARS to fully furnish our house. We were young and broke and made do with hand me downs or without until we figured out our style and collected pieces we liked. I think this age of technology and consumerism has made people believe they can have everything immediately. I purposely build delayed gratification into my life to combat that.
We still don't have a bed (mattress and foundation are on the floor) after 10 years because every time we think we can afford one we like (not buying one just to get one), some financial emergency comes up!
That makes me feel a lot better! I’m going from a one bedroom apartment to buying a 3-4 bedroom house within the year and I’ve been panicking about furnishing it. I’m fairly young so my stuff is all secondhand. This really spoke to me so thank you!
@@portiapans537 be proud of yourself for buying a house! It takes time to figure out how you want to use the space and also what your decorating style might be (we found ours became inspired by the house itself). You will get there!
We are in our second (and forever) home, and we still have several hand me downs that we are making use of until we find something we love. I also love going to places like the Habitat for Humanity Restore, St. Vincent de Paul, Goodwill, and garage sales to find the furniture for my home. Another thing I can recommend is if your furniture is a nice shape and sturdy but you don't like the color or fabric, look for an upholsterer in your area, because they can recover your furniture in a different fabric and bring it back to life! Your house doesn't need to look like an interior designer lives there, but if that is a priority for you, there are all sorts of eco-friendly and low cost alternatives to buying things brand new. And the other benefit of buying used furniture, besides saving it from a landfill, is that you have to wait until you find the right thing, you can't just go to a store and custom order the thing you are looking for. That's one of the ways I build delayed gratification into my life.
I love that you're making a "studio" and keeping the bedroom for filming, etc. So glad to see everything arrived safe! Loved this type of organizing/cleaning video!
My Kosas foundation had a similar smell straight out of the box, so did the brow gel. It’s something I’ve noticed in a lot of their products, I think it might have something to do with the lack of preservatives or other fragrances to mask it. I haven’t had any skin issues despite using the products for a while now.
I love watching makeup organization., they’re so calming somehow and seeing everything come together is quite satisfying. 😄Your new makeup vanity/table is soo pretty! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your makeup storage once you find the right drawers. 🤗
If you enjoy those urban decay liquid lipsticks you got in PR but don’t like the shades, I feel like mixing safe word and a tiny bit of that brown/berry shade would look really nice!
Your hair looks really great and effortless in this video. It was so exciting to watch you get so much joy from reconnecting with your products. It kind of makes me want to only use products from my makeup bag for a few weeks, just so I can get that “brand new makeup” feeling without actually buying anything.
Idk if I would risk using that foundation... I mean using makeup isn't just for the final product, a lot of the value comes from the usage of the item and how it makes you feel. I wouldn't want to put something fishy on my skin.
Most common iron oxides smell metally or rusty. I don't know of a reason why it should change smell over time... Something about kosas response smells fishy tbh... But you can try patch test and see if it changed consistency.
These are some of my favorite videos. Makes me want to play and organize use what I own. I personally wouldn’t keep the foundation simply because the whole experience of putting makeup on should be fun and a scent problem would impact that for me at least.
I’m so surprised nothing broke in the move! I wouldn’t risk the Kosas foundation. Love the desk! Too bad the drawers aren’t just a smidge bigger so everything can fit standing up.
That foundation has gone bad. Iron oxide doesn’t smell fishy! They use less robust preservatives and I would toss it. Trying to be tactful about the “clean” makeup companies like Kosas. It’s great that they try but the reality is these companies use less effective preservatives. And their lab staff that told the phone support person that are making excuses at best. Rust (iron oxide) has a distinct smell and it isn’t a fishy odour. Fish smells come from the breakdown of some fatty acids and rancid oils are not healthy.
I'm waiting for the day when Kosas finally drops the "clean" gimmick, they have some killer products but please put some preservatives in them! Or make them in SMALLER packages so we maybe have a chance to actually use them.
What I’ve learned as I’ve come into adulthood in terms of shopping for long term items like clothing, furniture, even makeup is to *never* settle, *never* compromise (at least with yourself, with someone you live with a little compromise is healthy lol) and only purchase things you are genuinely excited about, even if that means spending a little more to get the perfect thing. Congrats on the move! If I remember right as I’m typing this you’ve moved to Seattle, so the thrifting scene is probably insane there. You should keep your eye out on things like facebook marketplace and thrift stores for really unique or special furniture pieces. And I wouldn’t even shoot for three months to be fully furnished, that will probably fly by before you know it! I’d say even 6 months to a year depending on the items. Also wanted to suggest looking into DIY bed frames/headboards! You could really save money there or just get something that’s one of a kind and perfectly fits both of your tastes ☺️
About the foundation, I'd probably do a patch test on my arm before trying it on my face 🙂 I would recommend a shelf for the rest of your makeup rather than drawers 😊 It's so much easier to see everything you have instead of a product ends in the back of a drawer and you forget about it 🙂 I love my setup (I know it wouldn't work ad well for you with all your filming gear in front of your vanity), it's a desk with a top shelf where I have 108 eyeshadow palettes and then on the desk I have 5 small acrylic drawers (2 drawers in each) that contains lipsticks, lipliners, liquid eyeshadows, brow products, eyeliners and the jewellery that I use the most. Then on top of those I have 4 lipstick organisers and one organiser for foundation, concealers, sprays, powders, primers and mascara. Then next to my desk I have a large acrylic organiser that is open in the top with all my blushes, highlighters, bronzers and contour products. The others drawers are filled with Super Shock Shadows and smaller palettes that can't fit in the shelf 😀 My point is that I can see 98% of my entire collection, it makes me happy and I'll never forget about any of it 😊😁
I honestly feel like it would be fine for you to keep using the kosas foundation because if there was a possibility that it would have gone bad, the kosas team would benefit from telling you to repurchase it as it would earn them money
Yeah…instinct tells me that iron oxide doesn’t suddenly start smelling like fish. I would bet that the cleaner formula didn’t hold up in the heat during summer transport and went off. Maybe they can guarantee a 12 month shelf life in a temp controlled environment, but they should be far more careful about guaranteed longevity of their products if they are this sensitive. I’d discontinue use and spend some time with your other favorites. 😊
Thanks Sarah, I really need to sort my make up. I am a real makeup junkie and have tons to go through. After watching TH-camrs who use the Ikea drawers, I think I’ll have to go down that route. Have fun playing with all your rediscovered goodies.
Yay for more vlogs 🥳🥳❤❤ Nice set up. I love that approach of slow and steady in setting up your new apartment. That's cool that you've decided to use the bedroom as your filming/hobby space. Maybe we'll get some Nathan on 🥁 footage too 😁😁
I bought a nail polish organizing case for my nail polishes. I know it seems silly to buy something so specific but 1) you could definitely store other small items in there if you wanted to and 2) it encourages me to keep my collection in check. Mine has 48 slots but im sure you could find smaller. (I know I have a lot of nail polish.)
I just bought one of these too and it's so much better than my prior system of throwing my nail polish in a "gift with purchase" makeup bag. It actually saves physical and mental space 👍
I find the Original Urban Decay eye primer does dry my eyelids out a bit. I switched to the UD Eden formula and have been very happy. I am so happy everything made it safe! I think I know your makeup collection better than I know my own. 😂
Great organisational video Sarah , I personally wouldn’t use that foundation that’s really off putting that it smells of fish . I love the way you have organised your collection . I became a patron of yours last month ☺️
Kosas is a “clean” brand and as a result doesn’t have preservatives. I would be very hesitant to keep using especially since it didn’t have the odor when you packed it.
I think the lights might be a tad too bright. Some of the colors looked washed out and the reflection off of some packing was intense. Love the video, just my two cents since you’re adjusting the filming setup.
With the Kosas foundation, I would say it's safe to consume. I don't believe they would boldly make that claim if it weren't true as it does give you grounds to take legal action against them if need be. You have it in writing saying so.
For the Kosas foundation, is there anyway you could do a patch test on your arm and see how it reacts throughout the day? Totally get it if you wouldn’t want to, that fish smell sounds gross.
Congratulations on the move ❤ I can’t wait to see the next videos in your new place, especially the organisation part - by the way, if you think that you have enough room on the desk, I truly recommend the Moppe drawers from Ikea - when I got bored of the colour, I actually painted it with my least favourite makeup products and sealed everything with top coat for nails (I had roughly 10 full bottles received as promotion with an order). By the way, I am keeping my foundations in the same position and it is very hard to track the amount left, especially because I want to start my first project pan in January - do you have any tips? Thank you! Oh, and Merry Christmas 🎄 as I’m watching this video on December 24th 😸
The tiny pineapple cat bed is super adorable. 🥺 It must be a relief that your makeup made the move ok. I admire your approach to buying furniture. I am lucky I was able to borrow a bunch of stuff from family whilst I saved up to buy what I wanted for some things. However i do have some items which I rushed to purchase without thinking about my long term needs/wants and which I regret, but it feels super wasteful to get rid of it. And the money is already spent which also feels bad 😅 That kopari sunscreen is the sort of ultra shiny I love. 😶
Sarah, a very common bacteria smells fishy. My guess is the Kosas, being “clean,” doesn’t contain enough preservatives to kill the bacteria. Please throw it out. 😬
Make up is fun and a bad smelling product isn’t fun. Whether it is still good to use or not, I wouldn’t put something with that kind of user experience on my face.
Oh no! That's honestly the exact reason I shy away from brands that market themselves as "clean beauty." I find they go bad faster, and my skin is way too sensitive to be messing with products that don't have as reliable of preservatives. No, thank you. Not for me. ✌🏻😐
It's not worth using the smelly foundation. Maybe Kosas should make sure their foundation doesn't smell like fish within the amount of time they say it's good for.

That’s what we’re doing in our new house! Use what we have and replace and grow as we go.
I love that you're making a "studio" and keeping the bedroom for filming, etc. So glad to see everything arrived safe! Loved this type of organizing/cleaning video!
Sarah, you should do a Thrift With Me vlog!

Love this. Organizing makeup is so calming. Can’t wait to see more of your Seattle life via vlogish videos!
That's was a great relax video, kinda weird that situation with the Kosas foundation for sure. Love the storage situation as well.
I've really enjoyed these more vlog style videos of your entire move and settling in, always find myself looking forward to the next video!
You are so lucky the Desert Lights from FB didn't break. I can't buy those online any longer because they always arrive broken!
Just a pro tip when downsizing apartments. We mount our TV on the wall so it wouldn't look like wall to wall furniture. And it opened up the space.
I’m so impressed that nothing is broken!!

I will have to look atvthe dollar store more for organizing. You have some good pieces to use.

Change in smell is also the universal signifier that something has gone bad with food, products, etc.
Agree, “fishy” smell is bacteria generally
Glad you're taking your time to settle in
Settle in Seattle 😆 I'll show myself out👋

This was so fun to watch!
It is better to have furniture you love! Plus buying all your furniture at once is super expensive.
I'm impressed that the flower beauty palettes arrive unbroken. I had so many issues getting mone shipped to me without them breaking.
Please do a review on those vice lipsticks! How long wearing / smidgeproof they are
Will do!! I’m excited to test them further!
I have cut open the ud primer and it dried up within a week🥲 super fun video!

With the smaller collection, you might enjoy an acrylic organizer. I love the Sorbus Cosmetics ones I got from Amazon.
I'm thinking the kosas foundation went bad because it has spf in it.. that might explain why the concealer is fine..
Great organisational video Sarah , I personally wouldn’t use that foundation that’s really off putting that it smells of fish . I love the way you have organised your collection . I became a patron of yours last month ☺️
And just like that, it's like you have an entirely new collection! Enjoy:)
My kosas concealer had that smell after 3-4 months…I wouldn’t trust it.
Iron oxide is an inert mineral and can't go bad. Don't risk it with the foundation. Clean beauty is such a scam. :/

I haven’t decided yet!
You guys should totally thrift and look for estate sales
Sarah, a very common bacteria smells fishy. My guess is the Kosas, being “clean,” doesn’t contain enough preservatives to kill the bacteria. Please throw it out. 😬
Excellent excellent and excellent job my dear friend 💖💖💖 have a great day 💖💖💖

Haha right?? It’s too expensive to be smelling fishy lol
Ew, I imagine it would be very unpleasant to use a fishy foundation, even if they claim it isn’t bad. 😖
Big nope. Will never but a fishy smelling product on my face.
LOL!
