Why should the query bounded to a single record? I guess the Intention is to define another (more complex) view for the list page. For example you could show the customers with additional data from the company contact, or create a customer list, showing customer‘s data and ship-to addresses. In my opinion you should always include the sourcetable of the Page in the query, so you show somehow data of the page where you add your query.
