as cool as the case auto tractor is, i still cant imagine it taking over the farming industry in the future, because not only will it be very expensive for farmers to buy but because the right to repair hasn't yet been passed its extremely difficult to repair the damned thing when it breaks down (and it will break down, nothing lasts long in a farm because of the rough conditions it has to bear with regularly.) so getting it repaired by the dealership will be an astronomical fortune. not only that but this thing also cant make decisions for itself, it just uses the same gps and course system as any other tractor and can't identify hazards like mud holes or traffic, it doesn't know whether it should stop cultivating or seeding when it starts raining, or whether or not its implements get damaged by rocks or wear and tear, when a piece of an implement snaps off the farmer always picks it up to make sure it doesn't get swallowed up by another machine like a combine harvester in the future, this drone can't do that and wont care, it'll just keep going and probably bury the broken part. even if it was updated and upgraded to handle all of these conditions it would still need someone to watch over it and stop it whenever something bad happens, and the more they upgrade it, the more likely its going to break, its like a bmw with all kinds of sensors in it and when one stops working the engine wont start. if case ih and the rest of the agricultural manufacturers want farmers to invest in this insanely expensive toy, they better make it worthwhile. the right to repair will go a long way to doing this, but its only the beginning. john deere and many other manufacturers have been putting a lot of pressure on farmers to move towards 21st century machinery, but so far every single one of them have been increasingly difficult to maintain and repair, which is why most farmers still use tractors from before the 90s or build their own tractors from scratch (big bud series tractors for example.) agricultural manufacturers forget that farmers invented tractors, not ford. and farmers can very well continue working without fancy tractors and combines. farmers dont need the manufacturers, but the manufacturers need farmers.
