  • I hear a lot of chatter comparing who are the "Real" nurses in healthcare. I'm here to give my honest opinion coming from a Nurse in both Acute and Long Term Care. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section.

    Muriel you ain’t never lie. Acute care is a fire, I just completed two years in PCU. I’m burnt out- tired of being the provider, nurse, CNA, and family pleaser. I did private duty home health that was a breeze. LTC was hard but looking back it way simpler than pressure of the hospital. Thanks for your video, I totally agree!

    • @astoldbymuriel103
      @astoldbymuriel103  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. It's that pressure/stress of acute care that I can't get behind. My worst shift in LTC was still better than acute care 🤷

      @@msdeshabangbang you’ll be fine. I gave PCU another try. I feel better now, but it’s not easy at first. The first year will be difficult because you’re learning as you go. Once you’re skills are set and your time management is under control you will fair better. Where I worked before had a few lazy techs and 1:5 ratio which made for an ongoing uphill battle, but I could talk all day about this. Good luck!

    Ur absolutely right.. my BS had spiked to 300’s on the floor. I was so stressed and would cry the night before. In the car in the parking lot. 😅felt like I was failing. I’m now in home health pediatrics while continuing my education. I do want to do Long term to continue practicing my skills.. thanks for being real!

      You're Welcome. I hope it goes well for you. I'm interested in knowing the reasons RNs choose LTC over the hospital. I know my reasons why but like to hear the opinions of others

  • @xXxSapphir3xXx
    @xXxSapphir3xXx หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think it's where you were in the hospital. LTC was 32 residents 2nd shift, 13 QID accuchecks & insulin, blood draws we do at night (including spinning blood), 4 PEGs, 2 trachs, 2/3rds are 2PA, MULTIPLE wounds, and at minimum 5 hours med pass. I've seen MULTIPLE nurses passed out high, one hit a tree and died. I really think it's the facility and sometimes even the unit that makes a difference. The pay here is much better in ltc for an RN, but honestly I'd like to try LTAC because it's pretty draining and boring (even though very busy) to do the same thing over and over.

    • @astoldbymuriel103
      @astoldbymuriel103  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for viewing. First, I will say I WOULD NOT accept an assignment of that acuity on a second shift. Secondly, after working the high acuity unit in acute care, I have grown to appreciate the redundancy of LTC. Acute care and the ever changing patients, diagnosis, and acuity levels are too much for me in this span of my life. I need a steady, moderately stress free work life.

    I just did my first clinical day on a acute floor in nursing school today. i was able to rotate on a long term floor as well and just as a student the stress level is a night and day difference! you have to know the implications of pretty much everything you do and to protect my license i would rather work long term after i graduate so i can build my skills up.

      It depends on the facility.I know LTC with 35 patients with 3 peg tubes,2 presuure ulcers needs dressing change demntia patient constantly falling and neuro & paper work on you .I prefer hospital if you work LTC do night shift.

    • @astoldbymuriel103
      @astoldbymuriel103  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Lovebk98 yes night shift in LTC is much less stress. I would have the fall risk patients up at the desk or encourage the techs to sit close by their room. I would then get with administration about a room change where their room would be closer to the nurses station.

    I’ve been an acute care nurse for 15 years and making the move to long-term care to work someplace that has a shorter commute. Have not worked in any type of long-term care since nursing school when we did our practicum’s. I’m excited for the change, but I’m also worried it might be boring

    • @astoldbymuriel103
      @astoldbymuriel103  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for viewing . Most nurses I know are not able to adapt to the change from acute care to long-term care. It may seem very boring to a nurse making that change and also may seem to be overwhelming having so many residents. For me though I will take boring less stressful over being overwhelmed and any day.
