Ballet by Roland Petit from 1972: "Proust: Les Intermittences du Coeur: Morel et Saint Loup, ou le Combat des Anges." Music: Élégie pour violoncelle et orchestre by Gabriel Fauré. Danced at the Mihailovsky Theater Charity Grand Prix 21/11/2010 (I think). Thank you so much for this video.

@malaya18a You wrote this almost 2 years ago and may have forgotten it but I thought I would tell you I couldn't agree more -- this was a travesty -- did you see Ivan knock Benjamin Pech down?? I know the choreography and Vasieliev bumbled it more than once -- this was pretty much the entire Pdd -- I was appalled .. it should be filled with erotic, sensual tension and it certainly has none of that -- funnily enough the second dancer did not look to me like Benjamin Pech, of course about that I could be wrong. But they do this Pdd in the Kings of Dance so Vasiliev should know at least something about it -- And you are correct see Denis Ganio and Stephane Bullion or Massimo Murre and Mick Zeni or the original cast Patrick Dupond and Jean-Charles Gil and it will look a very different Pdd to you. I am going to keep it though as an example of what not to do. Now I do have to re-evaluatre my thinking about spending $150.00 to see Vasiliev in Jeune Homme.

The devil and the angel become lovers. It's justifiably and proudly homoerotic, male, sensual and athletic. But Vasiliev has the wrong body for this, he is too short and square. A leaner, longer line is required here.

He is not that short. He just has short legs and he is build brighter so it seems like he is short. I like his body.

@kabbovi Or they might disagree, realizing that the word "kitsch" might apply more appropriately to certain performances of the Nutcracker, to the faded orientalism of La Bayadère, or to inadept performances of the mad scene in Giselle. Almost all ballet depends to a certain extent on the willful suspension of disbelief, on a willingness to try to participate in the construction of emotion. Such construction may seem pretentious depending on the palette of emotions one brings to the matter.

@kabbovi No. What I have before me is a video (good considering the circumstances in which made) of an extract (danced as such) from a longer dance work (which I have not seen in its entirety - and I wonder whether Vasiliev has) itself an attempt to pose questions about the emotional content of a key part of Proust's vast work. What interests me is what the dancers are trying to convey - naive as they may be to Petit pretensions.

I thought it was just me as I'm not a ballet expert - but after seeing Mathieu Ganio and Stéphane Bullion perform the same piece these two are just lame.

It's a terrible piece, but frankly I'd watch Vasiliev drink a cup of coffee.

Search for Mathieu Ganio or Roberto Bolle to see this piece done properly

Another example of why some pieces should NOT be used as Gala pieces.
No Doubt Ivan Vasiliev would do a better job in this if he had been coached properly and understood what he was dancing. Mr. Pech is not helping either in this.
As for the usual comment about Mr Vasiliev having the wrong body type to wear a unitard... Change your tune please. Not all dancers look like insects!
