It was a musical rebellion against hair metal, bands like Motley Crue, Poison, Dokken and the like. Dress went from spandex to flannel shirts and jeans. Goodbye to hairspray for guys too. So that’s what you were looking at there. I agree, he’s a very good singer and they were a good band. Great reaction! I especially enjoyed Mia’s vocal hand diagram, it was spot on! :-)

I pulled out their Best Of album a couple of days ago, and was surprised once again how much I liked them. You'd probably like Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins and Bush - three great bands from about the same time and genre.

Great band for their time. Was alot of great bands came from this era. STP, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Metallica was around alot long but they started to get their groove in this era. It has a duel meaning. The fore mentioned dead 16 year old girl and a broken relationship that has his girlfriend going to bars, getting sniffed out by the dogs (guys) followed by the line, "does she smell alone".
Happened in upstate New York north of Albany. Cops were excited about finding her body, but at the same time they were horrified with what they'd find. Hence the line "when the dogs do find her, got time, time to wait for tomorrow, to find it".
Been on an STP kick lately. They have some awesome tunes. Singer was great. Unfortunately he had a lot of demons too. This whole album is very good. Check it out. Great choice girls.
This band actually got better as the years went by. Not many bands can make that claim. The Velvet Revolver, as the chat indicates, was totally awesome also. After he overdosed Chester from Linkin Park sang on one album, and it was OK but not as good as the regular STP. It was obvious that Chester was trying to imitate that beautiful voice, and although he had a great voice also, I feel like it did not translate well.
The album 12 gracious melodies was really good, I think plus plush was from that album along with a few others, Pretty Penny was another good one. He was a great singer too, my favorite STP song is Big Empty
