Just did it, bobbin is now tight tension also tight but am still getting same stitches

The tension disc and the bobbin case tension must be equal, not too loose and not too tight but at an equal state of tension

If your needle is not picking thread then your shuttle race is faulty, you can either rekit or replace the shuttle race with another one
