Hey man great tutorial, one thing I noticed that made me get this technique correct was that it had to be a "pure black" color. When I imported the vector file from Illustrator to Photoshop, I was still getting weird spots - your tip on making sure it's pure black is the advice that I needed. The other tutorials online didn't have this tip.

Hey, thanks for the quick response! I fixed it! I had previously tried to drag and drop the file into Illustrator which sort of locked all the textures together into one box that I could not (to save my life) successfully ungroup. This time i went to the file and selected "Open with>> illustrator and voila! all vectors are now selectable! I am new to AI and i am flailing my way through the learning curve. Thanks again for the awesome vids!

You did a tut using AI/PS to make an avengers style text, i love that tut and it is a powerful learning tool. it would be cool see you use these vector grunge textures to make some crazy cool text like you did in the avengers tut but using only AI and vector. Im sure there are some powerful methods in AI that would make the scratches, cracks, and scrapes look amazing and best of all, Vector! I remember doing the avengers tut follow along, i can't tell you how many times i deleted and started over on the edge cracks, i used several words not the 'Avengers' so after trying to work the cracks, rotating, changing, sizing, the brushes it was either not enough, too much , or a combination that made me not satisfied. i can remember wanting vector cracks so i could have more control over the shapes, sizes, and clarity. if you do, it would be a long video, although likely to be one of the best AI tuts out there. oh! and thanks for todays tut!
