Finally, my - by the competitive environment - forbidden and even undefined thoughts changed into actual words. Even better... words spoken - and written - by a honorable man. Thank you, Svend Brinkmann, for reminding me (and other people) of life responsibilities. Thank you for the ammunition I (unfortunately) need so hard, explaining my ‘bad attitude’, by loving the uselessness, putting people I love on highest priority instead of my boss (or myself), together with my antithetic ambitions- compared to my fellow students in the past. And especially… taking my time for the things I do, which is nowadays chronic labeled as ‘slow going’ instead of quality giving.
Thank you for taking away some pressure, by realizing I’m not alone in my perceptions of how to live a worthy life.

This is exactly the type of discussion we need to have now in order to avoid a world war. We need to reexamine our values and come up with a new plan, because it has become clear that the current trajectory isn't going to lead to the utopia we envisioned.

I love it when the RSA brings these anti-positivity speakers. Would have never heard about them otherwise. Great stuff.

Search for RSA Smile or Die by Barbara something. I think he mentioned her in this talk.

I'm a coach and to watch this video was very liberating. I love the practise of stoicism. At the same time I think we should help and serve others when we can as good human beings. I use my experiences and knowledge to help clients to become self aware and find their calling. So I think your approach Svend, needs to be taken on a case by case basis as you mentioned. I really appreciate the courage you have taken to do this despite the bashing you will get from the rest of ''positive' people. Thank you so much for this thought provoking video!

I work in one of the Scandinavian countries and in the schools here the emphasis is on personal choice. In a sense it assumes the person choosing will be the same one as the adult self. In fact, many people continue to have their school friends as their personal friends throughout their life. That's not so common in the UK where you might cross class barriers or exist in another work context outside that which you are familiar with. On the constancy necessary for living an ethical life, I've seen the children here given more power, but that doesn't solve the problem of power. The upshot is the stronger ones dominate the quieter ones and the environment is very normative and the bullied are often forced to move schools. So my point would be the assumption of the constancy of the self doesn't automatically result in ethical action and may in fact be a sort of prison where people are trapped in a certain cultural milieu where they are told 'that's who they are' and there's no way out. The point of learning through life is that it doesn't rely on the idea of innate skills and gives you are pathway for learning that doesn't assumed you've already failed because 'you're not that kind of person' or 'it's not meant for you'. To me a less flexible idea of identity results in its own ethical dilemmas.

23:46 - existential humility - we are situated - hence the fantastic appeal of digital space - disembodied figures.

"Happiness is to have low expectations." And a fine way to manipulate and deceive the masses. Sounds like hell to me.

I think he missed the real point of self help, inner peace is coming to terms with yourself (by being positive, loving yourself, forgiving yourself, and thus you can do the same for others which leads to peaceful coexistence). You must learn to be unconditional and learn the universal laws. Law of Vibration which leads to Law of attraction, Law of Oneness... But forget that self help shit. Meditation can improve not only your life but has been shown to reduce crime and other things.

Why don't he try one of Hillary's accents?

Trying to get rid of his American accent since Trump got elected. Well, May is in Britain, where Brexit happened, so the British accent is out. You've got to learn the Australian one.
    Ridiculous... even as a joke.

I'll keep my german accent. We'll always be out, so I needn't care ;)
