As a V6 owner i can honestly say the only issue i ever had was the main ground wire that was causing electrical issues. After fixing it, It's been great to me since & it's at 208,000 miles. 🤷 Most of the people i hear about with GT's always had their motors blow up, interior coming apart or going bad, Headliner sag etc. GXP is probably the perfect G8/Commodore to own but they're EXTREMELY expensive. 😩

I bought the 08 G8 GT when it released and it was 361hp if my memory still serves me. That car was fast stock and had an excellent suspension on it, plus it was a roomy 4dr sedan that looked mean. On mine I added a Corsa catback, kooks shorty headers, rotofab cold air intake, and had it dyno tuned. That was the best sounding car I've ever owned and I'm still pissed I traded it in for a 2013 Mustang GT 5.0 cal spec convertible. I recall the GXP's having 425hp and have no idea what the v6 had since I never would have bought the v6.
I bought mine brand new on 2009 .. GT. Been driving it for 13 years … I would do it again on a heartbeat ….i night Holden badges too but never installed them … I like my Pontiac arrows .. great video. Very cool car !
I would disagree, mine is straight piped and it sounds amazing. Only thing i would say is drone at certain RPM. Not sure what honda sounds like that lol Unless of course you’re talking about the V6….my recommendation for is to take it to a good muffler shop and leave the car there cause its a v6 lol
Got a Stryker blue metallic GT In 2015, only had 8300 miles. Will be 8 years. It’s been a fantastic car. But…..the suspension….you are so right! Had to basically replace the front end, did a lot of damage because of potholes and having run flats which were a disaster. Got the front the repaired, and you definitely have to have the right tires on this car you can’t go cheap, I put Federal Formoza FD2s on these, they were a disaster. I hit a bump and it bent my rim. I have Good Years now which have been a life saver, best tires by a mile. Had the alternator replaced a few months ago, but so far it’s been a reliable car. Engine is very sound. Yes you’re right, the GT is the way to go. The GXP is just a pure collectors item. It’s definitely nice to have a car that ppl look at. Now…if I can only get moronic Honda Accord owners to stop trying to race me with their 2.0 Turbos lol (there’s a reason Honda axed that engine….the accidents)
Leased a Magnetic Gray 2008 G8 GT brand new in 08 I planned on keeping it for 3 yrs and then turning it in and getting a brand new 2011 GT to replace the 08, but when GM axed Pontiac it was a no brainer that I was keeping the 08. Here it is 16 yrs later I still have the 08 GT it now has 183,000 miles on it, I've had one collapsed lifter that needed changing, and a new radiator, these are the only major issues that I've had. This thing was exposed to some NE Ohio winters, but it hasn't seen any more of that for the past 6 yrs and won't see anymore of that. Hell I plan on keeping the G8 GT maybe one of my grandkids might inherit it 🤔
Long time G8 lover, had mine for almost 2 years now and i have the V6. Do I wish I had the V8? Absolutely but I have nothing but love for my little base G8 its been a wonderful daily driver, has everything I could want out of a daily and still the fastest car I've owned so far and at 240K miles now ive never had any issues. Definitely alot of suspension fixes but only thing I've had to touch on the motor is an O-ring in a heater hose. Gonna be hard to move on from this car unless i can find a GT or SS but id honestly just throw another motor in mine🤷🏽♂️

My 09 G8 GT has 172kk miles on it, ive had to replace the transmision alternator and starter. That being said it only has a tune and is undefeated vs 1st gen Coyotes at the track. In 09 the GT had 360hp and the Gxp had 412

Yeah definitely get a G8!! I have a red one. Going on 166K miles ATM. With full dual exhaust and that thing definitely breaks necks. Sounds very good. One thing for certain the main reason these cars timing chains go bad. Is due to the fact that you need an aftermarket PCP Valve. Also you need to change oil every 5K miles. Just like you would need to for a G35 or G37. But changing the PCP valve allows for better air circulation in the engine. The ones that come with it are terrible for the motor. Definitely change that the first thing you should do so you don't have all that oil residue build up in the engine. Other than that. I promise you these engines last forever. Alloytec LV7 V6's are definitely the best. All aluminum engine. You can't beat that. Definitely have potential for lots of HP and if you want more horse power. You would need to upgrade the transmission because they are only rated for 350 HP. But anyways good luck man!! ✊🏿
G35 are cute seen some really nice ones modded out, quick all that! But the G8 preferably GT or GXP, or better yet Chevy SSs..all of them are slept on cars, you hardly see um on the road. My 09 sits close to stock except for rimes headlights and its still got a ton of curb appeal! Kit that joint with some VF loins badges and people be like what is that..🤷🏾
I own both a 08 G8 gt and a 07 G35x sedan. Definitely the g8 breaks more necks and gets a lot of compliments.. especially from older heads. It feels good when you have a car that you don’t see often on the streets, not like a charger i see them every damn day. You can’t go wrong with either or. My Infiniti is by far the most reliable car I’ve owned.

@@underr8dgarage931 yeah i just put some black tacks up there to hold it in place for now but it sure does suck. Also watch out for the drain holes in the doors. They are notorious for getting clogged and will overflow and fill the floorboards with water. These are with all 4 doors. One other thing is the trans cooler lines get soft and will leak. Not sure if the base model has that problem but def the Gt and Gxp

The door itself was clean and I think the issue was the weather stripping on the bottom of the door being stuck and "glued" to the door over time. I don't remember a dedicated drain hole but I do remember I took it apart and put it back together again and changed nothing except loosely fitting the stripping back into its aligning holes and now I don't hear water sloshing after it rains heavy.

The GXP has a LS3 where the GT has a 6.0 LS2. The GXP could be had with a 6 speed manual the GT only came with a 4L80e 6 speed automatic. The GXP has FE3 struts where the GT has the softer FE2. The GXP also came with polyurethane bushings in the rear outer control arms. GXP has a different front fascia and rear air diffuser! GXP has front 4 piston Brembo brakes where the GT came with a 2 piston setup. The last thing I can think of is a difference in rim style. The GT could also be gotten in 18” & 19” sports package. Get an aluminum one ordered from Australia. #2 Get gasket spacers for the motor. They sit right up under you're intake manifold. It helps the motor breathe better. #4 Upgrade throttle body and air intake #5 upgrade camshafts. All of them lol and There's G8 forums you can do your research on. You'll be surprised how fast these things can get.

GT’s are a great option. The only downsides are the absence of a manual and the DOD lifters. Luckily manual swaps seem to be getting more popular tho.
