Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the "Debit" bit was a satirical take off of "Ol Man River", comparing the life of CPAs to southern black dock workers. See video of Paul Robeson singing it. Self explanatory. "Ol' Man River" is a song in the 1927 musical Show Boat that contrasts the struggles and hardships of African Americans with the endless, uncaring flow of the Mississippi; it is sung from the point-of-view of a black dock worker on a showboat and is the most famous song from the show.
BLACK ACCOUNTANT: Oh, I debits all duh mornin' An' I credits all duh eb'nin Until dem ledgers be right LEO & THE ACCOUNTANTS: Until dem ledgers be right *Hey, it's Mel Brooks, a Jew that mocks himself and Nazis both. It don't bother me (a black guy in LOVE with both show and movie versions of "The Producers" I lived thru Blazing Saddles so WTF.
@@thomashester2 actually there was one dancing in the Jail, and also one in Prisoners of Love....but yeah, they shouldn't cut the black accountant singing scene, this was epic
I thought in NYC, somewhere , they have a Broadway history archive. Recent shows have films and recording, older ones have staging, set construction , etc. I think it is available to art? Students? ... anyway I could be wrong. I looked it up, The producers was a movie first, a play at turn of the century, and made to a movie circa 2005... and my library only has Mostel and Wilder movie version. I will say MB received an Oscar for his writing, a n d he had a talented cast for every performance.
Do you by any chance have the entire show on video?? - I have watched all your other ones countless times and just wish I could see the whole thing! Thanks so much for posting all you have - esp the extended version of Springtime - only place I have ever seen it and fail to see why they didn't put it into the movie!
Krista Woodall before a show opens of broadway, they do tryouts to perfect or rework anything before going to broadway and of course see how the audience reacts to the show
Loved this show...but really don't like the prerecorded tap dance sounds they use in today's musicals. It sounds phony and doesn't always match the dancers movements, which then distracts from the show. But that's just me.
It may come across slightly out of sync on the video. I saw the national tour starring Lewis Stadlen and Alan Ruck. The tapping dancing was genuine. Those dancers worked hard!
Other than The Producers, best tap dancing in a show HAS to be Something Rotten! The Producers and Something Rotten make up two of my top 3 favorite musicals of all time (the 3rd being SpongeBob).
Wow. The transition back to Max's office is brilliant.
One of my favorite songs from the show! I love how Matthew performs this song.
I’m not going in to the toilet I am going into show business - one day I will quote this aha

I believe you are correct.
I didn’t realize that in the movie, simply hilarious

Pretty good camera work and great audio. And beautiful performance. If only "the movie of the musical" had such sparkle.

Matthew Broderick seemed pretty on point to me.
@@AARONSINGSBROADWAY no
He sounded sick
Matthew was perfect for this part
He just so cute he's like a penguin or something 😭❤️
The best part of this scene is the black accountant singing a spiritual.
The man who came to dinner
I agree. So brilliant. followed by the harmony.
Boo Tedesco I hate that it got cut from the movie
@@thomashester2 well, that's the problem with the movie, it cut out everything
Matthew is such a smol
I want to see this so badly! I love the original movie so much!
Thank you thank you thank you for posting!!!
I'm guessing this is a big ask 20 years later, but if you did ever happen to have the whole thing on tape, it'd be great to see...

Thank you for uploading!! Would love to find a recording of the full show
just wanted to add a small warning about a few flashing lights in this in case that's an issue for anyone :)
I love Matthew Broderick
When did Ferris Bueller learn to tap dance?
Sascha Houpt he did a LOT on his day off 😂

Someone else posted the full thing on TH-cam
When the huge applause comes before the song is even over like wtf
