I'm a beginner hockey player, and this is really helpful. I play your video on 1/4 speed so I can study the moves in more detail, to see how you get such good control, and then practice with a hockey stick, rolls of sticky tape, and a golf ball in the sitting room much to the bemusement of the neighbours. Thank you.
Ik how to stick handle a little bit but I score a lot of goals I have 64 goals in my caree I am going to be in 12 grade my last year of Aapted floor hockey I’m going to be playing for robbinsdale for my last year
granted this video is old, but i think under common mistakes he should have mentioned rolling the bottom wrist when stick handling when really its just the top hand that should be rotating. This is a mistake i have done for years and i see many others do it too. However, during his examples of common mistakes, he clearly rotates the bottom wrist but i just think it should be a little more emphasized since I think it is one of the most common mistakes. Good vid though!
I like how he says keep your head and chest up but in the last drill his head is down. but these drills do work and first time doing them you head is going to be down, but as you get more comfortable it will become second nature and your head will be up.
on skates between your chin and your nose at the longest, but its really just preference. Of course shorter stick means easier to stickhandle but slower shot, and longer stick means better sniping.
And the most important thing about flaming on a youtube video is to watch the video. Like the bit at :33 when he tells you to keep your chest and head up so you can see the entire ice .
Nice video, trouble i have is sometimes flipping or lifting the puck slightly when i try and get a bit of speed in the moves, any advice? (I tape my stick 70% of the blade and it happens with and without wax)
Are you right or left hand dominant in every day life? I'm new to hockey, right handed and shoot righty. It makes sense to have your dominant hand at the top of the stick, but I can't shoot for the LIFE of me lefty and I've tried to work through it. Always interested in others opinions on right hand dominant with a left vs right stick. My handles feel a bit more solid with a lefty stick, but I'm slowly getting better with my right. Lots of small, unused muscles. Thoughts on the subject?
WHen i play gym hockey i play street hockey but there we use pucks they all say i take slap shots when im flicking my wrists it goes way over every bodys head also happens when i 1 time it. how do i make it so its not so high?
This is a good video, with a lot of good tips. However, it is harder to keep your head up while stickhandling using a composite stick. It is harder to feel the puck with a composite stick and harder to control it. While we still see some good stickhandling in today's game, there has certainly been a decline in good stickhandling. It is interesting that such players as Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux (both of whom knew something about stickhandling) preferred to use a wooden stick.
Haha yea if ur gunna 'try' and teach ppl to stick handle at least tell people to keep ur head up. Thats the most important thing in the game! Stick handling or just skating! Having ur head up is a MUST! Or else u will get fucked up
Excellent demonstration.
This breaks down the fundamentals fantastically!
Keep it up m2hockey - let's get these kids better at the sport!

@logieuk try rolling your wrist more so the blade cups the puck more - this should prevent some of the flipping you're seeing now.

@LLhockeyplayer Roll your wrists more - this should help reduce the chopping

Hi there! I was just wondering how long of a stick you used in this video. Where about does your stick come up to when in skates?
Thanks!

The stick comes up to your chin when you're in skates.

you're not keeping your head up during the drills
