It's tempting to engage in what-about-ism of a highly flawed Western democracy and the illusion of choice presented there. However, the main distinction is the freedom of the press. Don't like the mainstream media? Pick your own. But, ironically, it's the West's press freedom that will also undermine national cohesion, and so will weaken it against a state where press freedom is curtailed. But we have to remember that perfect Democracy is unworkable. We need to decide where along the spectrum we want to be.
