I remember like yesterday about 35 years ago; I learnt to sing the whole of this song despite a foreign language ; in 1989 when I was in A level, in Kilimanjaro Dom, I heard the death of Franco through the neighborhood dinning Hall radio. The way I cried like a small child!!!!. This music was then played in all radio channels like a national Anthem for a whole week. Every time I listen to this song Kimpa Kisanga Meni I get a different taste. I have never gotten enough of Franco's music. We should be forming a Global Franco Association.

Just recently lost my father and listening to Franco makes me feel reconnected. he was a great fan of Franco. people would ask me that you look young to listen to such. For me it's my connection with my dad through such great people like Franco. Long live my father's best music and i will always love him and Franco keeps the fire and love within me! Christmas time in Zambia was mostly punctuated by Franco songs for those of us who grew up in Lusaka, Kabwata -Zambia

The bass in this track, and Franco's 'wailing' guitar in the background endures to this day. Franco's 'wailing' lead guitar would be called 'guitar inapiga nduru' I give it up for the bassist, Franco's lead guitar, and the percussionist. That was a powerful collaboration. I wish there was a video of them recording this in the studio.

    Kimpa Kisangameni (1983)
Done in Franco’s native Kikongo, it starts with heavy Mpundi Decca bass guitar (like it was with Jackie in 1978) punctuated with a mournful husky voice of Franco. Kimpa Kisangameni means charms planted on the roof of a house and Franco is telling his mother to see the charms that enemies have brought to kill him. He says his brother Bavon Marie Marie (died in 1970 in a car crash) was killed by sorcerers.

Franco liveth . The guitarist, pianist, flute, drum beats and Franco's roaring voice addressing his own mother live live.
    TRANSLATION:-
Kimpa ki sangamene kuna zulu means a mystical event has occurred in the sky kimpa = mystery , zulu = sky, heavens It is a mystical song which describe events , experience taking place in the astral ..which Franco has contextualized in his own personal experience related to the death of his brother You will notice that in this song the lead guitar is the bass , which makes it deep and mystical
He asks his mother to open her eyes. The sorcerer is entering into the family to eliminate everyone. Bavon Marie Marie has gone, if mother doesn't take care they'll all go, and you will be left. And who is going to bury you?
That's what Franco was saying to his mother.
So: "Kimpa Kisangameni".... so, "sorcery has entered into the family / there are people that want to hurt us / Mama, open your eyes / if not, you will be left on earth, with no sons to bury you".
And unfortunately that's what has happened: Bavon Marie Marie is gone and Franco too has gone and Mama was left behind.
    THE ARTISTS BEHIND THIS SONG.
Language & rhythm: Kikongo, Franco's mother tongue.
Decca (bass) and Dessoin (percussion) had the same background and play here, Decca even animates (from 7:08 into the song).
Other vocalists, besides Franco: Josky Kiambukuta and Aimé Kiwakana, possibly Chécain, who might also be responsible for some light percussion, too.
Dele Pedro and Rondot Kasongo Wa Kasongo may have played soprano saxes (during the intro only).
Ntesa Dalienst explains after the song. Ntesa went on (but I could not fit that into the maximum 10"59 minutes for YT) to say that Franco believed that indeed sorcery was the cause of his illness, which he had said in an interview very near his passing.
Franco's guitar is crying all through the song, deep in the mix. If you play it loud, you may catch it.
Translation into English of Ntesa's explanation, more info and download:

Journalists owe us a candid interview on or about Franco's music - assembly of pieces of equipments / instruments and team of musicians, choice of theme, style, time, and audience - a piece of cross-board appealing music for all generations so to say ( born and unborn ). Then comes this Kimpa Kisanga meni song where Franco mournfully addresses his mother with a mournful husky voice about witchcraft and the death of his brother Bavon Marie . What was mummy supposed to do, her body language from the first beat, message to the last? Franco dominates us with three competing (attacking and counter attacking ) tools - his voice, instrumental beats, and message which some of us don't understand but understand anyway.
