If you grew up in the 80’s you loved this guy. Such talent, unbelievable. I have every album he made solo and Genesis. Wow 100 albums sold , great success 🎶🎼🎵🎹🥁🎷🎺🎸❤️
If Phil lacked confidence, it never showed on stage. He seems supremely confident when performing. He was in total control of the band and the music. Rock solid. The perfectionist may never feel good enough, but we can all see result. Perfection.
You’d think people don’t care anymore, but against all odds, Phil’s fans are easy lovers of his legacy. Not just two hearts; but many. His music can be heard, even in the air tonight, if you listen close enough. It screams “take me home”, but with true music art, it can take time to appreciate it’s true colors, even if it takes one more night to realize that you can’t hurry love...(even if it’s the really groovy kind). So don’t wish that it would rain down on people who don’t like him. We need to hear both sides of the story as to why they’re musically leading separate lives from us, so that maybe one day...just maybe, we can live another day in paradise, on the way to heaven as we finally dance into the light.
I Never understood the hatred for this man and his music. Phil has dealt with tons of shit he didn't deserve. I read the book... give it an A. If you like Phil, its a fantastic journey through life with him... the ups and downs. He puts it all out there. Well done Collins.
A brilliant interview with Phil Collins. Very natural conversation. Phil spoke with honesty and was deep thinking when remembering his life, success, memories and the people he met over the years. Very informative and entertaining conversation that helped those listening to understand Phil and his remarkable talents on the world stage! By far the best interview and it was enjoyed from the very beginning to the last words!
Thing is though - Banks and Rutherford are the same age as Phil. The difference is, Phil did all the work; Banks and Rutherford did fuck all. I was a Genesis fan from back in Peter Gabriel's day. Thing is, if Peter Gabriel hadn't walked away, he would probably be on his last legs, like our gorgeous Phil is now. So so sad,
Phil is such a nice guy. Everytime I listen to him talking I feel like he is a guy you could have a cold beer with - chatting like friends. Thank you for beeing such a funny musician. Selfcritical, sarcastic and fun.
I believe the band Genesis would’ve never survived without Phil Collins taking over as lead singer as well as the original drummer & songwriter. Phil Collins you are the best. God bless you for creating great music.
I was 5 yrs old when I first started to listen to his music..35 yrs later here I am 40 yrs old & he's still one of my favorite musicians. My friends all think I'm crazy cus I'm always listening to his music including songs from Genesis. I love dancing, cleaning, driving & sleeping to his music. My most favorite song of all time is "Rain down on me" I get chills all over every time I listen to it. I truly appreciate him for his music & his beautiful voice. And even after all these years..he's still very sexy to me.
I think you must mean 'I Wish It Would Rain Down', which was taken from Phil's mega selling 'But Seriously' album and also features his good friend Eric Clapton on lead guitar. That song happens to be my personal favourite of his, too. Great stuff.
“ Follow You , Follow Me “ by Genesis . That’s my first Genesis song that actually made me fall in love ❤️ with Phil Collins and started following his career . Thank you 😊 for all the beautiful songs you’ve been making for us thru the years . Be strong 💪 God bless your life ! I pray for your good health . We love you and need your music . We are all getting older , nobody is getting younger . It just break our hearts to see our beloved artists with health issues . You are a legend , but for me feels like you are somebody from my FAMILY .
Physically he has deteriorated since this. Age can often be cruel. 4 years can make a big difference. Saw him in Newcastle on the 1st. To be able to sing with his condition takes great determination and grit. Hats off. One of Britain's great rock legends.
I noticed the same. I followed his tour in 2017 on YT and saw him live with Genesis last march. He has really deteriorated in 5 years. Slower, skinnier. That's what constant pain, immobility and (understandable) lack of exercise does to you. The live shows were his exercise.
I first became a 'fan' when I was 12, having been dragged to a Genesis gig that summer. I've loved him ever since, even though it made me unpopular at times with school friends - who just wanted to listen to Blur vs Oasis. I was never able to get tickets for his solo tours, and I'm so happy to have seen him again, 29yrs later. He looks so fragile now, but he's still there inside. That book of his is incredible, and it will be a VERY sad day when he does eventually 'shuffle off'. He'll always be a hero to me.
I just love his song. They all bring tears to my eyes of joy..pain..experiences..love...lost..hope..faith..I’ve been listening to him all my life and he always kept me thinking..Thank you Phil Collins for EVERYTHING...YOU ARE TRULY A LEGEND...peace
So relieved (as the whole world of his fans would be...) that the beautiful soul, Phil Collins, is "Still Not Dead". Completed full reading of the auto-biography...so extremely honest in every way, extremely interesting and really is one of the very best reads available in that particular genre. Best Wishes and Good Luck to Phil and Thanks a Million for all your wonderful musical work. We love it all! A huge legacy now and always as part of thousands of happy human lives.
Phil is the most talented artist that has ever walked the earth . He could play multiple instruments , write incredibly and sing like an angel. As a matter of fact he's not of this earth he's an alien 👽.
Phil is great, but I'd argue that Paul McCartney and Jeff Lynne are just as talented. Both are multi-instrumentalists, writers and singers and Jeff also produces albums.
Probably the most consistently humble and emotionally open celebrity as far as his professional AND also his personal life-what I believe you Brits call “A Regular Bloke.”🇬🇧
Ive been a fan of Phil Collins since I was 10 years old in 1982. He is a great singer, songwriter and drummer, a wonderful legendary artist. It's amazing how Phil started out as a drummer for Genesis and then stepped in front to become the lead singer and then a solo artist. Phil Collins is truly amazing and wonderful.
So thankful you took the time for this interview. I'm happy to know who Phillip really is. God Bless you Sir Phillip Collins and thank you for sharing your God Given Talents with the world!
@@glynisroberts5029 That's a long time They were all fantastic back then Although I never got a chance to see them I watch them a lot what your favorite Phil Collins song?
If you can find it, the Phil Collins 1988 segment of "This Is Your Life" is fantastic. His whole family is there (well, not his dad exactly). Robert Plant is hilarious. As they bring out more people, and more stories, it veers from charming to comic and Mr. Collins from agony to delight. When he hugs his son towards the end of the show, it is joyous. Well worth your effort to find it!
I remember seeing Genesis on tv and it was Phil who stood out on drums. He has a certain energy that shone through. Later when he replaced Peter it just lifted the energy of the band. Then his solo work was hit after hit. I just saw TOTP 1988 and he was No. 1, just him singing, pure magic, when everyone else was so manufactured. The common thread is Phil, he's multi talented, lovable and his songs have enriched me.
To those commenting about slurred speech or "he's drunk" maybe you could watch more than one recent video. That would require effort, and I understand you're too busy diagnosing to do some research before criticizing. This was days after a bad fall that left wounds on his face, so they obviously have make-up on him. And he is no doubt on a painkiller. He is suffering from nerve damage, back and ear issues, and is not the same man he was years ago, but he is not deserving of the typical comment section BS.
To criticize Phil before knowing what happened to him days before this interview shows ignorance and being judgmental. Phil is a human being like the rest of us. Chris Chennell I agree 100%. He’s so incredibly talented and you cannot beat his sense of humor. It’s so nice to see him healthy enough to be able to be out again. Love to hear those songs, even demos, of those bits he has tucked away. Maybe someday.
We're all entitled to our opinion. It's naturally subjective. He is a great drummer (and not given enough credit). He's amongst a legion of top class UK drummers.
@@canturgan I dont think Bonham would give your opinion two thoughts to be honest, he wasnt that kind of a guy. Mutual respect between all these drummers.
I busted my shoulder in an accident two years ago and I live with pain daily, it's a real inspiration for me to see how Phil deals with something similar and still keeps going.
Brilliant interview with Phil Collins, excellent quality! We should see more down to earth people like Phil Collins. I enjoyed his music and the reflection of how he made it to superstar.

Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, and Phil Collins...sounds about right 🙂Phil seems to have had quite a few detractors in his solo career, but his talent, perseverance, and sheer energy he has put into his artistry is very special, and it's no accident that the greatest artists of all time happen to also work very hard at their craft, and take it very seriously.

Stefan Turton - Yes. It's his affect. Slow, slurred speech. Rolling eyes, laughing at own cracks, can't maintain eye contact, finish sentences and sit still. Can't judge the man because of prescibed meds. He clearly needs them. Just makes for a boring, self indulgent interview. This session was supposed to provide insight. It did, just not in a flattering way for Phil. He clearly isn't following prescibed med advice. I bet he was nervous & topped up before coming on. Poor fella.
Mick Van Watcher - Sure, though they're just comments Mick. As he says & as it comes across he's not terribly confident & gets quite insecure. His ex-wife must have thrashed his self esteem. BUT as he's flogging a book & with a willing audience you'd hope he has someone in his corner quietly saying: 'Phil, you're fine as is, no booze or extra pills needed for this gig. I feel really sorry for the bloke he sounds really unhappy.
Oh Theophilus... what a name...but you are so right !! Especially about the bit about his wife thrashing his self esteem ;( and man ooh man.. he had to go back to her... ;(

The essence of this man is very surreal. It just goes to show that if you have the will, the Strength and the Talent...nothing can Stop you but Yourself!!!..Amen Sir Phil and ty for the many magical moments in my Life..:)
He is a legend. Simply love his voice, his songs❤️Thank you Phil. You’re thee Best!
Definitely one of my favorites artists of all time!!
“A band is as good as it’s drummer”. Soooooo true!!!
its
@@AndiB111 Oohhhh, you’re right! If you knew me you would know how much I pride myself in the proper use/spelling of words. It’s nails on a chalkboard when I see people commit grammar faux pas (i.e, their/there/they’re, etc). Sounds like you share my feeling on this!
Phil Collins is a genius. Period.
PERIOD!!!! 💯
X3
Absolutely! Beyond talented
Definately
Perfect , mister Phil Collins ❤️ mais rien de comparable avec Mickaël Jackson , différents Phil est vivant à ce jour , heureusement , santé Phil Collins ❤️
I was there that day, still the greatest drummer the UK has ever known. Great sense of humour too. Love him!
That would be John Bonham.
Chris Chennell I agree 100%. He’s so incredibly talented and you cannot beat his sense of humor. It’s so nice to see him healthy enough to be able to be out again. Love to hear those songs, even demos, of those bits he has tucked away. Maybe someday.

I knew someone would debate their opinion. What about Keith Moon and Mark Brziecki?
We're all entitled to our opinion. It's naturally subjective. He is a great drummer (and not given enough credit). He's amongst a legion of top class UK drummers.
@@canturgan I dont think Bonham would give your opinion two thoughts to be honest, he wasnt that kind of a guy. Mutual respect between all these drummers.
Very difficult, brave. To do an interview in a hell of a lot of pain shortly after back surgery. With you all the way bud.
I busted my shoulder in an accident two years ago and I live with pain daily, it's a real inspiration for me to see how Phil deals with something similar and still keeps going.
Phil, you are amazing......I do wish I had seen you in concert! You were my 80's inspiration!
He will slowly recover, he is a living legend we need to show respect
Phil should have stayed sitting in front of the TV pickling his liver with gin. He’s 3 sheets to the wind here listen to him slur. What a load.
@@b50262 Hey. Hey, you. Go play in traffic, you moronic twat.
He’s just..A..W...E..S...O...M...E..peace
@@jank8365 He really is, a terrific, down-to-Earth type of guy.
@@b50262 How about you just stay home and record more useless home movie aquarium videos literally no one else is interested in?
saw him on Sunday in Dublin he was so so good. worth all the money in the world thanks Phil 60 years of greatness.
Love Phil Collins with all my heart, he is talented genius and still handsome. I love you Phil Collins always xx
I love to listen to Phil talk when the interviewer asks good questions! This is good. Love how transparent he is here.
Phil's musicianship is immortal. But Phil himself is mortal. Let's give him a break. We owe him that much. Just look at what all he has given us.
Legend Phil Collins
Love Love Love Phil Collins! Great seeing him!!! Wish I would have seen him in a live performance!
The heart in this man's music is unparalleled. Genius. Even if he does sound like Ozzy Osbourne in this interview.
Brilliant interview with Phil Collins, excellent quality! We should see more down to earth people like Phil Collins. I enjoyed his music and the reflection of how he made it to superstar.
My Goodness, how great a person he is! We LOVE you!
Sure miss seeing you Phil, I know illness can slow us down but we are strong, I have an autoimmune issue.I am 62 now vegan helped me tremendously, stronger now . God bless and stay safe, let God’s white light surround and protect you.🙏🏻✝️❤️
Getting old sucks. Love you Phil you've nothing to prove anymore. Write songs if you want, drive around town if you want, just be what you want for goodness sake. You're loved no matter what. You'll be in our hearts.
Class, Phil is just THE living legend.
This man needs no comments of people who only received from him. Praise the man instead for all he has delivered for this life and lives after ours.
He’s a legend my respect ✊ for you Sir.
Seems no one got Phil's joke about his storing tons of Genesis + solo albums in his garage-it was witty. He is a GREAT drummer. Genesis is INCREDIBLE!
Nice one Paul. Well said
This generation doesn't understand 'records' or 'albums' they don't even get CD's. Streaming is all they know.
Paul Hester Phil has always had an excellent sense of humor. This is another example. Glad to see even with all he has been through, he is still the same lovable Phil.
Paul Hester
I got it
canturgan stop stereotyping. I’m a millennial and I stream everything (Apple Music primarily). However, I collect new and reissue vinyl records. So, as I said, stop stereotyping
People are so judgemental. I think he's just relaxed and comfortable. I loved this interview. I love you Phil Collins!
Hahaha, those pink fan glasses, they're strong ;)
C'mon, he's obviously taking something.
Especially about the bit about his wife thrashing his self esteem ;( and man ooh man.. he had to go back to her... ;(
I love bit where he states the artist are part of you and he so right. He and Genesis in their stages are certainly a very part of my life. The host is really great and has done such nice job.
Brilliant I love Phil Collins brilliant singer / drummer ❤❤
Ludwig....my brother had a full set my dad got for him when he was a teen in the 60's. He's now 69 and still has the set if Ludwig. They r worth a fortune now. Your the best drummer ever and performer.
