See, this is why I like the idea of the ominous bottle so much. It opens up the game for more cool, optional challenges. I just hope vanilla can get more features like this. I really like that the horse and the weapon are rewards for doing this, too, really cool.
The ability to steal the nightlancers horse before he can get on should be a feature. The idea of jumping on the hay horse and riding away while the nightlancer stares dumbfounded at you is amazing. Maybe he chases after you and tries to kick you off the horse. Maybe he recites a spell that makes the horse explode with you on it. So many ideas

It was so fun working with you on this, the amount of polish you put into the gameplay, effects and sounds for this mod is insane ASDHAFS! It was so cool to fight the Nightlancer not knowing EXACTLY how the fight would play out! Seeing the spawn animation and riding the Straw Steed for the first time was so cool, I'm genuinely obsessed hahaha! You are amazing RAAAAA
16:31 in between charges I would add him quickly circling the player for a few seconds every now and then. Just a few meters...all 3-5 charges. Like he stalks prey.
I was somewhat surprised that there wasn't a special mechanic for when the player steals the bosses horse inbetween ressurection. Kinda seemed like the horse being and unridden for the short moment was a natural "Hey, try it" moment.

Just to make the beginning of the fight feel less aggressive, I feel like there should be a short delay between the ground pound and charge attacks. Maybe Nightlancer should have to rear up again before charging after a slam. Maybe he could regain the ground pound + charge combo after he becomes headless.
Honestly, I love the the concept of two entities working as one. A dual boss like this makes it even better. The jockey code doesnt get much use and there are some amazing combinations that could be used if given time. like a totem pole entity that when hit will swarm the player. maybe when mojang adds termites they could use this. like bees only attack when you break the hive, so what about damaging the 'home' of termites will cause it to crumble and release them.
I love how this feels like it could fit on the vanilla game. So many people tend to make these crazy things that just don't fit with the game fundamentally, but this is something quite special.
This is so cool and it looks amazing One thing you could do for an extra visual polish is add a particle trail mimicking how the creaking does so that it looks like the nightlancer is actually adding new straw to the horse, this could also be active while he's unmounted to indicate the horse is under it's control, and disable players being able to ride it while it's linked
7:27 it's animated. Reanimated would be for example a zombie (so something that was alive at some point, then died and got animated again, thus re-animated)
I have a cool idea (maybe)! What if, when a player rides the straw horse, holding the lance and puts on a carved pumpkin, they will become the nightlancer himself? Maybe the player will die and the boss spawns or the player can control the nightlancer? Wouldn't it be a nice easter egg?
I wish you would make more real mods more often. Idk what there is about them, but you just seem to make them fit very well with vanilla. They don't seem to be too strange to be playing with as if they were part of the base game, and fit the general philosophy and mechanics. However, I do have some points to add: - I think the weapon it drops is a bit op for PvP, as it doesn't let enemies get close to you. When off a horse, it shouldn't have it's increased range, or have a slower attack speed. - Currently, it seems very terrain dependant. You can fix it be either ocnditioning where it spawns (maybe only some specific pumpkins) or making it break blocks. - I don't like that it just stands there to receive hits when off the horse. I think it would be much cooler for it to persue and attack you while waiting for the horse ro revive. It would make the combat much more dynamic. That's it, I just wanted to throw these ideas out there so I could sleep tonight. Aside from those, it looks like an update I would love to have on vanilla.
I cannot stress how much I love this mod. It checks off so many boxes for what should come to minecraft: Unique item drop in the Lance, Incredibly fun combat design, A new reason to ride horses and expanding on old gameplay features, And another ominous trial esque challenge. I definitely think some things should be tweaked: The zombie horse should be the steed ridden by the Nightlancer, it would be so perfect for it to finally enter into the game, especially if it can wear horse armor (probably dyed when ridden by a Nightlancer so the color scheme matches up), and if people are worried that if it is a zombie horse how will the core game mechanic of knocking the guy off his horse work, i suggest he just summons a new one after the first one dies, The knightlancer spawning via pumpkin is pretty cool but i think that it would be weird to fight the Jack o Lancer in a taiga or spawning him from the shooting targets around pillager outposts. Maybe a larger than normal pumpkin patch can spawn in plains biomes with a yellow pumpkin in it that when sheared summoned the Knightmare (not a white pumpkin though that should be in the Pale Garden), Overall though, the boss looks super fun and not too challenging while also being scary AND AWESOME LOOKING (seriously though how did you nail all three of those), incredible animations, and awesome loot, this mod is just so fricking cool
If you retextured the horse to be snow instead of hay, and the actual nightlancer to be a living present that has coal smears all over ints clothes, you could make a christmas version, and tie make it spread snow wherever it goes, and have the pound make a lot of snow and freeze the player, that would be really cool.
You know there's a neat idea for the lance. Make it like the mace but instead of vertical movement, it's horizontal movement. The mace increases damage from your attack by your falling speed, the lance could be the same thing but with your vertical speed, whether it be with a minecart, elytra, etc
you should let players get on his horse, but make him punish them by like flinging them into the air or something, itd be super cool to try to "cheese" it but then realize that its actually a bad idea
I feel like it would be a cool idea to make it so the Nightlancer grows back out of the horse and kicks you off if you ride the horse midfight, or the Nightlancer could fight you off of it.
It’s fine that you keep ramming into it causing it to get knocked back but then you can hit it again and again until it dies so it’s like you step it on your lance 6:44
only thing to finish this off would be to make a structure which is like a dungeon but at the heart is an arena with a pumpkin, similar to the style of born in chaos
Completely random but I thought of an idea that might make this fight even more fun. I think if you hit him maybe it keeps him from reviving his horse, but his attacks will make it hard to do so? So the more hits you can get on him, the longer you can keep him down and attackable, but he of course will not make that easy. Maybe he can do a spin attack or a pound attack to try and push players away? Could be something like what happened at 16:51

You should make it so that the horse takes almost no damage from swords and you have to use an axe to damage it (because it's made of wood) and it should be faster than a regular horse (because it's slimmer). You should also make it so it's better to use a sword against the Nightlancer and you have to switch your weapons (because of the faster attack speed). And if you kill the the horse after you defeated the Nightlancer you should be able to break the wood pile with an axe and get Stripped Oak Logs, Stripped Oak Wood or Oak Planks

The headless horseman also has the glitch of going too fast and missing the target causing him to turn around.
It really says a lot about Eight's friend group that multiple people managed to cheese it by stealing his horse.
