I feel like this is a great display of both good and, well, less good barrel racing. Some girls have quieter hands and are light on the leg aids. Others ram their spurs into the horse's flanks and whip them. Unsurprisingly, the ones who keep still make less mistakes at the barrels. Your horse is aware of you already and unless you desensitize it to constant whipping and leg aids you don't need that much. They have sensitive skin and a little goes a long way.
COWGIRL number 2 WON'T BE LEGENDARY whipping her horse like that. I was a barrel racer and never did that.
Yes I agree there was no to whip that poor horse so hard. If she had trained the horse properly, The horse shoudl be able to undeestand subtler cues
some barrel racers dont know how to ride they just rely on the saddle to keep them in place and the spurs they use are disgusting but still some racers are really good riders

Do not whip the horses that makes him slower. I tried that with my horse and it made it so slow and it hurts the horse. Just make sure you get your horse into a gallop before you enter
I suspect that would depend on the horse. I haven't seen any rattle paddles in use yet. ;-)
I've been taught for years by professionals that it doesn't hurt him it gets their attention,as they can feel it yes,but it definitely makes my guys faster,it depends on the horse in my opinion:)

I hate seeing the riding crops. Let the horse be a horse without hurting it. They are such beautiful loving intelligent animals. Treat them right they treat you like family. I was raised western but rarely needed even a slight kick except with a stubborn Arabian with an attitude that occasionally wanted to throw me off.. I was five years old and my little kicks got him in check... But my favorite horse (we had a major bond) would throw your ass off if you so much as lightly kicked or tapped him with a heel to get him going. 🤣🤣 He wasn't having it one bit. He gave me a warning to adjust my style a bit so I never got his wrath. But I was also the only person he would obey with anything western because my Aunt and Uncle that owned him, rode mostly English. They bred Peruvian Paso's. But he (Charlie) was Rocky mountain And thoroughbred. A heinz 57 as my uncle called him. Rest in peace, my Charlie horse.
Riding crops are a needed for some horses same as whips!!!
Not to be rude, but crops or whips don't actually hurt the horse. While you have a point, some horses just don't like it.

@@KARRMA333 I only use my qurt when my horse gets a little stubborn or needs a little help doing something and I barely even touch her tho I get what you mean when some people lay into their horses more than once in a row…
@@KARRMA333 as long as you’re using a crop or whip properly, it shouldn’t hurt the horse. Of course there are some people who use it to abuse horses but as long as you’re using it properly, I think it’s ok

Was there one or two riders from Australia? They don't fly their horses over, do they?? Maybe they do, I guess... be a hell of an expense.
Most foreigners I have met purchase their American Quarter Horses in the USA if they are going to compete there. Transporting horses one way by air can cost up to $10,000. Due to the money involved, those will be mostly racehorses rather than rodeo horses.

They should take points off for using whips. I'm 59 and I don't remember barrel racers using whips back when I was in my teens and twenties.

@DustyReinsStories would you be willing to help out @NCbarrelracingofficial to help her out? I know how hard it is to do horse videos that are not Equestrian dressage or trail riding. Either that or my YT suggestions avoid the "abusive" horse sports.
I used to get a lot of hate as a Weatern rider as a teen, as I didn't do dressage or hang out with the equestrian girls and their fancy riding wear. I was jeans, t-shirt, and boots (saddled) or tennis shoes (bare back) rider. I also had a reining horse that never wore a bit. I helped train and care for horses on a sulky racing farm, we did some rodeo and cattle drives during slow seasons for training the racing horses.
I grew up with ranch horses so I can identify with your background, Hirse training and handling are much different than in the 50s & 60s and it is good to see the changes which are more in line with the teachings I learned from some Sioux relations in Montana, My horses never wore any bits at all. I always look for opportunities to record horses, mules, and donkeys in the wild and at work. Thanks for the tips and comments and I will see what I can do.

I have done that before and it was way too easy for my horse, so we moved up to show jumping it was a perfect fit, but I still miss radio and barrel racing
