I watched a lot of bands in the early eighties, and I got to see The Pretenders at Earls Court and what a show they put on. Brilliant band, with a superb lead singer. To this day they’re the best band I’ve ever seen live. ktf
What a powerful band they were, greater than the sum of their parts, a fact this footage highlights. Taking of highlights, JHS’ outro solo is so melodic and beautiful, and Martin’s drumming - wow.
Fuck, yes. One of the very few bands that took the 2-guitars-bass-drums format and turned it into an orchestra, on every song. It simply never got better than what they accomplished.
I dated my high school sweetheart for eight years and he nicknamed me "kid" after this song, he used to sing it to me all of the time. I miss this music, I miss this time in my life and I especially miss him...
Thanks for posting this video, it's probably my favorite Pretender song of all time and I never have seen or heard the original lineup play this song live. It's nice to remember what a really GOOD band they were and it was such a shame to lose James Honeymoon-Scott and Pete Farndon when they were so young and had so much left to offer!
I remember when I was listening to this album on a demo reel to reel, thanks to a friend that was in the music industry. I asked who this is and the answer THE PRETENDERS. Since then I've never stopped listening to great music Thank you Chrissy.
Yeah I think Martins Arms were about to give out on him covering for James solo there. Looks like Peter had to say something to him at the end and a good laugh was shared after between mates
The song is not about her having Ray Davies child, but rather about a prostitute who unexpectedly gave birth and her surprising tenderness she felt to the child

Never get tired of this song or The Pretenders!

yeah........
That’s sad…Kid ❤
You realize this song is about a mom talking to her kid when he finds out she's a prostitute.

They were tremendous saw them and I can never get tired of seeing them
That I think is the best rendition of this song.

Too bad the lead guitar player passed away so young. I loved his solo in this song.
James freaking Honeymoon Scott
Love this song. She is such an inspiration
Died of a cocaine withdrawal
@@0nyxFR773 Cocaine allergy stopped his heart. He died in 1982 and Farndon the next year of a Heroin od. So sad.
So beautiful...
That's a HUGE solo at the end
Yeah he really came a large amount

Still got a pair of used drumsticks chucked into the crowd at gig in Brighton from around this time.
magic magic
The last pluck of the song sounds better than the original version. ❤
They are playing Strats !
Brutal!
Wowooooh.
klassik real pretenders!!!!!
If there’s a better female singer out there I’ve yet to see her…
i really like the slow mode 1 but this 1 kicks ass as well
A classic in every way. Sing it yourself or Sing-A-Long.

This is onobtanium. Rarer.
Love the original band, wish she would make up with Martin Chambers at least have half the band together.
Sad to hear they haven't been on good terms. IMO he played as if he wrote every song, and I don't hear drums when one is going through my head. lol
just thought is not what ray davis said to her when they started dating

Guitar is a bit flat on tune but still cool
