So glad you found this helpful and timely Randall! ;) Yeah, Buddy congrats on your first boar brush! Thanks for your great comment and encouragement, and thanks for watching! :) Have a good day, take care and stay safe my friend! :) #Heart
That's a beautiful brush. Semogue makes the best boar brushes. They do a great job prepping the whiskers specially if face lather. Boar brushes just get better and better with use.
Pedro, thanks this is a beautiful brush and I'm looking forward to using it on the Sunday #SOTD.😉I always face lather and these Semogue boar brush are fantastic, and do a great job of prepping the whisker.👍They do get better and better with each use.🖐Thanks for the great comment, and thanks for watching! 👍🙂👍
I’ve been Traditional WetShaving for over 3 years and just finally ordered my first boar brush! The popular 830. I face lather so I’m excited to use it, I’ve heard a lot about it 💈👍🏻😁💈

I use only badger brushes, and I have never tried boar. I heard some wet shaving guru some years ago recommend cleaning with shampoo, which I do occasionally, and it works well. Shampoo is also a good wool wash.
Mark, "cleaning with shampoo... works well" that's great to know and it works good on wool as well🖐(high five). I could use that as I have a lot of wool clothing.👍Thanks for the great comment, and thanks for watching! 👍🙂👍

I'm looking forward to the Sunday #SOTD to shave test the fantastic SOC brush my friend.👍Thanks so much for all the encouragement, and thanks for watching! Have a great weekend George! 👍🙂👍
Hi Eric. I received the wrong boar brush from an eBay seller. Good news is. I get to keep the Omega 5 wood and they are sending me the 4P that I ordered. Since I get to keep the other one I have used this process on it. Right now I’ve done all the soaking and hand lathering. It’s in the ziplock bag now for its overnight stay. I used Blades Grim Smolder on it. Thanks for all this great info. Tomorrow I’ll continue the process.
Wow! Scott that's cool you get to keep both shave brushes! WooHooo! :) Hopefully you brush will come out near prefect like mine did, please let me know. :) Thanks for the great news of getting a 2 for 1! :)
Adventures In Wet Shaving I’m not good at waiting. But I got the deal because I ordered from Portugal. I believe that if you don’t ask the question the answer is always no. I asked for and received a discount. At least enough of one to make it worth the wait. Lol
Hey what’s up Eric. Awesome video brother. I do basically the same thing, but I’ve never put a brush in a baggy over night. That’s very interesting. I will have to try that. I’m a horse guy myself and don’t usually have a problem breaking it in. You take care my friend and thanks for keeping it real.
Kirk it good to see you!🖐I have never tried a horse hair brush, someday I will have to try one.👍Thanks for the encouragement, and thanks for watching my friend! Take care brother!👍🙂👍
I have to give this a try. What I have done in the past is use my wife’s lavender soft hand wash and let it soak for about and hour then use my shampoo and let it soak for another hour the use it as normal.
Hello Eric, I have a Semogue boar which refuses to break in even after doing the Mantic procedure. After a year it just has a few split hairs but it's still rough. My faves are 2band finest and silvertip. Thank you for the video.
Kypros, I hear ya the Semogues can take a lot of use to completely break in.💪The 2band finest and silvertip badgers are soft from the start and are fine brushes.👍Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching my friend! 👍🙂👍
That's strange.. I bought my first one and put it through the "rites of passage" and it was awesome... Got another and decided to use it just after a wash and rense, it too is awesome and both have bloomed out beautifully. If you really don't like it and want to give it a new home, let me know and I'll be happy to take it off your hands.
My break in routine is shorter and more like Frank's, but i use dish detergent first off rather than good shaving soap to get rid of that crap in the bristles. i wash the brush with detergent and water thoroughly, then soak it in a cup of the same for an hour or so. Or until i remember about it! After that, i'll lather it up with shave soap and i'll coat it with it and just leave it that way overnight by the side of the sink. T
T's Tip on breaking in your shave brush: first clean with dish detergent and clean out the bristles, wash the brush with detergent and water thoroughly... then soak in the detergent and water mixture for an hour or so... next lather up the brush with shave soap and give a good coating of lather... let it seat like that over night. Wow, very cool 🖐(high five)👍Thanks for the great Tip, and thanks for watching my friend! 👍🙂👍I was hoping you would share the way you break in your brushes... thanks again!👍
Hi Eric. Of my dads brushes that I have the boars & horse are my favorite. Between that and your recommendation I ordered an Omega like yours. It’s set to arrive today. I start this procedure when it arrives. That’s a gorgeous brush. I love the cherry wood. Thanks Eric.

William I have heard people like the horse hair. Why do you like them? Good to know the silver-tip badger brushes are good to go right out of the box, very cool. If you enjoy what you're doing and it's effective for you, no amount of effort is excessive, ...or insufficient. My first couple of shaves with a new boar are a little sparse and light with the lather volume and ease of application - but after those first couple of shaves, the brush softens, breaks in nicely, and the spread is easier and all is good. Basically, I break in a new brush by simply shaving with it ...but, admittedly, I can be a lazy SOB at times ;)
Eric - great video - I still get a funky smell from mine.. other night I lathered it up with shampoo a couple of times.. I've used this Omega brush for quite a while - Baume.be. Like it as much as my Badger; stiffer and lathers well. . like the plastic bag idea.. Keep up the great work... thom davis

Baume.be. has a light clean scent.. Now on my siver-tip badger - I have washed with dish washing soap; rinsed; and then soaked in vinegar to break up soap down by bottom of bristles where they go into handle.. Too much dried soap there will break off hair at the base.. learned that on a vid from Em's Place... I'll put the boar hair in a plastic bag with Baume.be. lather.. stay warm buddy ...thom

Great questions El Katsani! ;) Yes I did have a good evening with friends and family and I'm well. Hope your evening was good and you are well. Let me ask if your brush drys out well between shaves when it's in your stand? if so that's fine and with it touching that shouldn't damage your brush in any way. As far as putting your brush in the stand and the bristles getting deformed as they are in contact with the back of your stand. You could do a couple of things... every time you put your brush in your stand make sure and rotate it so a different side of your brush touches... or you could set your brush with the bristles facing up and let it dry up side down. This is how I dry my brush after shaving. Hopefully this is helpful, let let me know if you have any other question and let me know how you get a long. Thanks for your great questions and comments, and thanks for watching! :) Have a good weekend and take care my friend! :) #Heart
@@AdventuresInWetShaving nice answer my friend thank you very much, realy helpful,I apriciate your answer and your attention, hope you the best my friend
Dan, if the brush is sealed in a bag it will not dry out... giving it more time to break in. This isn't the only way to break-in a new natural hair brush... How do you break-in a new natural hair brush? Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!👍🙂👍
Sorry if my comment came off the wrong way if the bag helps DO IT! I do what you do, but I usually use a hair dryer on low heat to dry and split the tips.........and then get it wet and do it all over again several times. I think the drying out of the bristles helps the tips split. I do let the first lather sit overnight, but just without the bag.
Dan, thanks for the great comment... using a hair dryer is a great idea... that's cool that the heat helps split the tips and the drying out process helps the tips split. Again thanks for the great comment, and thanks for watching!👍🙂👍
Eric, Great #SREFS!💈👍 Very helpful, I have a Boar brush that came with the Black pepper shave butter set. I've only used it once so it needs broken in & this will help.👍 #QOTD (I Broke in the badger hair brush I have by using it). Took much longer then your method lol. I'll be breaking in a boar brush later. My ILR came yesterday so I'm good to go. Thanks for the helpful video! Eric, Have a Great Day & a Good weekend My Friend!👍👍💈 See you Sunday.
Jody. I remember when you got that Black pepper shave butter set...👍yeah break in the Boar brush over night (it really works).🖐That's so cool you really do have everything you need with the ILR, you are definitely good to go!💈👍I'm so happy that these videos are helpful for you!🖐Thanks for all the encouragement, and thanks for watching!👍Have a Great Day and a Good weekend My Friend! 👍🙂👍I will be there Sunday... WooHooo
Keep us updated with how it goes with the ILR. i use one too. As for brushes, boarhair for weekday shaves and the badger for Sunday indulgence, but that's just me and my need for routine ;) T
T, Sure thing.👍 I haven't had to used it yet the new strop I bought is like a hone in it's own. I stropped the Grandslam on it the day I got it & had the best shave yet. It's a nice looking stone I can say that. I'm not sure witch brush I like the best. Badger,Boar & a Maggard synthetic? I've only used the Boar brush once & will be breaking it in tonight. Right now I'm using the Badger brush that came in my ZY430+ shave set. It's a cheaper made brush but creates a great lather. T, I really appreciate all your help & suggestions. Have a Good Weekend my Friend.👍😃💈
My post-shave routine is a few strokes on the fabric side of a strop (dry the edge) and then a few on a pasted balsa strop (stop it from dulling). i'm all about avoiding the hones for as long as i can by routine maintenance rather than waiting till a blade gives me a rough shave. Top job with the Grandslam - i like those and the GD's. You don't have to spend a ton of cash on a brush - i can make a lather with a paintbrush (!!), but they are wonderful when broken in. Take it easy on the new strop ;) All the best T

As for brushes, boarhair for weekday shaves and the badger for Sunday indulgence, but that's just me and my need for routine ;)

Cool idea T, have a brush rotation! 👍🙂👍
Take it easy on the new strop ;)
All the best
