The best hypothesis I've heard for what happened to the Mary Celeste crew: They smelled a strong alcohol smell, and realize alcohol was leaking in the hold. Afraid of a potential explosion at any moment, they quickly boarded the life-raft and tied a rope the the boat and drifted behind, waiting for the explosion or the alcohol vapors to subside. But the rope broke/came loose and they were not able to stay with the boat. Seems very plausible.

Ghost ships happen more often than you would imagine. One of my favourite examples is the Lyubov Orlova, a former sowjet passenger ship. In 2013 it was en route to the Dominican Republic, it was getting towed there to be broken down for scraps. When the towing cables broke for the second time the crew of the towing ship wasn't able to reattach them and the ship became a ghost ship. It then drifted towards Canada, where it threatened offshore rigs, but the Canadian officials decided to leave it alone after it drifted out of the Canadian 200 mile zone into international waters again. About a month later, in late February of 2013 emergency sensors were activated near the Irish coast and the Irish Coast Guard decided to investigate, but didn't find anything. This might just have been some life boat that had been separated from the ship, though, because seemingly the US intelligence services reported finding the ship about 2400 kilometers west at the same time. Nobody knows if the ship is still out there or if it sank. Considering it's been seven years, it's probably somewhere at the bottom of the ocean by now, but you never know, the Baychimo (lost in 1931) was last spotted in 1969, so it was a ghost ship for 38 years.

There was a ghost ship at philippines. At 3~4 am there are 3 ships with lights but no passengers, but the news team went and saw that it was illegal fishers at the border.
There's a logical explanation for how a ship could beach itself then disappear after being unloaded: it beached itself at low tide but did not significantly tear open its hull, at least not on the side facing downwards. When the cargo was unloaded, this lightened the ship enough for it to float off at high tide. It then floated back out to sea and sank. Remember that tides vary considerably with the moon phases. If it grounded on a half-moon low tide, the coming full moon or new moon would produce a much higher high tide.
I’ve been to this ship called the USS Lexington on the coast of Texas. It’s a battleship (I think) from the 1940s. It was called the blue ghost or something because whenever it would seem like it was sunk, it would come back in the night, glowing blue. When we went down inside the ship it FELT haunted. It was pretty cool.
The Marie Celeste was discovered with food prepared that was hot, and still on the table, coffee still warm in the cups etc. Whatever happened, was quick. There was no struggle. They were just gone. 3:40 A chronometer is another name for a clock. In the case of ships, it is a very accurate clock set to the time of a known longitude (usually home port at the time, now usually "Zulu" time, GMT). The crew can then compare local time to the time in home port to accurately find their longitude.
As soon as you‘re away from densely populated coastal areas and commercial harbors you hardly ever meet other vessels. A trip across the atlantic often means days without a change of course and seeing anything but water, so it is quite a chance to find a ghost ship. With a vessel constructed in the 70s the hull would be at least an inch thick and could withstand weather and weathering very well; considering the hurricane the crew probably took precautions like properly closing off all decks and bulkheads, so even if some areas were flooded, it would probably not compromise over all buoyancy (often ships are designed to „allow“ for one bulkhead to be flooded, without sinking the ship). It is surprising that it didn’t wash up somewhere along Africa, think skeleton coast, or got smashed on riffs and sank somewhere around there.

Re: military uniforms. This could just be due to the DPRK's extensive military. It is very common there for soldiers to wear uniform in public, and would not surprise me to see uniforms worn on a less than reliable fishing boat they gets washed out to sea, requiring its crew to abandon it.
I think a likely explanation for the Celeste is that the pump was busted. A storm is seen in the distance. They make landfall at an island to weather the storm and the storm pushes the ship out to sea. They are stranded without food or clean water.
“Ghosts don’t exist” Me:”I know your trying to calm us down but... I saw a ghost and it’s really hard to just ignore it to me.” Ghost ships are always going to be just as mysterious if the crew isn’t found.
"maybe it was sold to a local merchant who changed the name." It's bad luck to rename a ship New Englanders know this more likely the ship was dammed by the ghosts of her crew.
Bermuda Triangle, I love the lore and tales that rise from this “mysterious” area. However there’s a much more likely reason these boats and planes disappeared on these waters. Methane, more accurately a large bubble of it rising from the ocean floor, when these bubbles rise, they displace the fluid around them meaning that if a ship was to be sailing above it’d literally be pulled down as the gas bubble burst and due to the weight of ship vs the weightless gas.. goodbye boat. Also you’ll notice a lot of times sailors and pilots mention interference with any electrical components and compass, all can be messed with if you introduce electromagnetism and seeing as the planet is covered in this invisible force, I find it highly likely it’s just more concentrated across this body of water. this is just a theory but particularly the methane part fits perfectly.
I remember being told something similar ages ago, apparently an abandoned fairy had appeared somewhere near halt in the UK, well I forget the other towns name but if you take the old train to the town which goes to the beach, I believe that's where they found it. No one was aboard, great stories, don't know if any are true but probably.
The best hypothesis I've heard for what happened to the Mary Celeste crew: They smelled a strong alcohol smell, and realize alcohol was leaking in the hold. 3:40 A chronometer is another name for a clock. In the case of ships, it is a very accurate clock set to the time of a known longitude (usually home port at the time, now usually "Zulu" time, GMT).
The crew can then compare local time to the time in home port to accurately find their longitude.
and it's also not pronounced chronomEEEEter
I want to explore a ghost ship.
"It's dangerous"
I also want to be part of a ghost crew.

I am impressed that you used a Resident Evil game clip in the intro especially using the Resident Evil Revelations clip that is still underrated to a certain degree, Love it
I live in Ireland and I heard about this. Well done. Good vid.
Crew: we're gone you cant just sail everywhere

Why are you calling NK, “the hermit kingdom?” The Hermit Kingdom was what all of Korea was referred to as in the 1400s...

Your show should be played at schools. Its like learning a new cool thing about history every ep. Keep it up!!!
Imagine watching a ship sail when you're 5 then 15 years later it sails back to shore empty (or the crew still on but not aged)
The "Flying Dutchman." is a merchant vessel, not a man 'o' war. And you don't measure water in the bilges with a pump.
Nope but you need them to pump the water out.
Very quality and interesting content. You've earned a subscriber.

@@NanaSama I'm literally on a ship and you're not.
This shows how those ocean currents still run and how more credit is needed to be given to their ship faring skills and trade routes.
I literally played every single Resident Evil so when I saw that opening clip, I thought of my Game-pass membership lol.
Ohhhh THAT’S what that is! I knew I’d played it but I couldn’t place the name.

Hi Brew, I have a question
What would happen, if sand floated in water?
Also, your work is awesome and your content is amazing, Keep up at good work!
"maybe it was sold to a local merchant who changed the name." It's bad luck to rename a ship New Englanders know this more likely the ship was dammed by the ghosts of her crew.
"West of the Spanish coast" that guy probably doesn't know that Portugal exists
Doesn't know that what exists?
Spain actually does have some Western Atlantic coast
@C R According to google maps california is south of oregon. A boat can be west of oregon and not california and vice versa
@C R not the exact same situation given Portugal occupies a considerably bigger portion of the west Iberian coastline than Spain (Galicia).

Hows the boats come back then?
Theres cows faring under the sea?
I remember being told something similar ages ago, apparently an abandoned fairy had appeared somewhere near halt in the UK, well I forget the other towns name but if you take the old train to the town which goes to the beach, I believe that's where they found it. No one was aboard, great stories, don't know if any are true but probably.
That clip of Charlie going genius is used a lot on Brew, and I appreciate that.
