@@darkacademiavanessa My point is, it mostly began because Varian lost his father and in his time of need, Rapunzel didn't / couldn't help him. If Varian hadn't lost his father or if Rapunzel had chosen to help him after the storm, this wouldn't have happened so yes, it is a little bit insensible. I'm not saying that she's wrong for hugging her father, I completely understand the feeling and all, it's her family and I would've probably hugged my father too but it's still insensible to do that in front of someone so lonely and hurt. That's just my opinion, though. It's just sadly ironic for Varian. ^^'

He's not really technically a villain... he was just driven by anger for the fact that Corona turned their backs on him and his dad. He only wanted to free his dad and get revenge, and plus, in Season 3 episode 1 his dad was freed and he was that cute lil cinnamon bun again :3

Just sharing a,fucking opinion mate. It sounds like you love to snap at people for feeling sympathetic towards someone. How would you react if your father was trapped and you were driven by desperation to save him. True Varian was a,villain but at least he had an understandable reason for being a villain. And how could you not sympathise with him? At least he saw the errors of his ways and redeemed himself or is he still a bloody villain in your eyes?!
This is some of my favorite character writing ever. How often do you see such a complex arc for people turning into a villain? Usually its like a guy with a dark tragic backstory or instant traitor. Here they are show everything from start to end, its not some stupid plot twist that happens out of nowhere.
Varians just an angry suffering boy who needs to be comforted and heard as well as getting his father back its obviouse how much varian needs his father's guidence love and approval why wont they just help him already

No, so far the creators forgot he existed and is presumably slowly going insane in prison, but he's been confirmed for season 3 so hopefully he gets the happiness he deserves

I love Varian. His character is amazing and the coin flip change he has when his dad gets incased in the amber was also amazing. He went from a sweet, clumsy, nerd to a vengeful, hateful, nerd out of grief
Varian is hands down one of the best Disney villains in history. Well developed, original, likeable, multidimensional and you can fully understand his motives and even root for him in a way. He is never evil just for the sake of being evil (as a typical cartoon villain) - he has a clear, valid goal and if he's losing self-control, it's because of well justified anger and frustration. His character carried the whole series for me. He really deserved his own show.
Even in the start of season 3 when he comes back, and help to take over the kingdom, is not for evil sake, but to erase everyone's memory of what he did, and go back to being friend with rapunzel
Varian's the kind of kid who would be your friend, then if someone hurts you, he personally makes it his goal to either hurt them back or just plain murder them, depending on how bad they hurt you. And I love it
Rudiger and Varian are so cute together though. I love how he interacts with him in the background of everything by allowing Rudiger to sit in his arms or on his shoulder. At least this poor little baby isn’t completely alone. It’s also really touching that when Varian was being arrested, Rudiger hopped on his shoulder and began stroking his cheek to try and calm him down.

I’ve theorised, and, well, in ‘day of the animals’ I thoroughly believe that varian is the one who takes the animals to save the gang from the magical prison, because varian DOES NOT believe in magic and likely still won’t, however he’d think there was a possibility of it existing. So no, I don’t think he is the old enemy, hell, it might be somebody from the movie. You never know, but that’s just what I thought, it’d be weird for him to take over the kingdom after basically 2 years of being in prison, 2 years of thinking to himself and thinking ‘is this really worth it?’ People change, and in 2 years almost? I believe varian wouldn’t dare taking over the kingdom. What would be his reasoning? His purpose for it? He doesn’t have one. The ‘dad’ excuse is an old flame long extinguished.
I just got into this show and I've realized that Varian is literally all of my favorite character types in one character: soft, fast talking, nerdy science boy + sassy sarcastic villain + has both a corruption and (later) a redemption arc. I literally just watch the show for him at this point 😅

6:04-THIS is when the show really got deep and earned a fanbase. Rapunzel is faced with a real-life issue, who to help. Her people, or one of her best friends. When we see Varian again, he reacts like any person his age might've. He did go over the extreme, but he's a kid with not as extreme, but some sort of attention rejection issue. He always has a need to please his father, and now that his chance was lost, he'll do anything to get his revenge on the people who wronged him.

"The princess refused to help." That part always annoys me. She wanted to help. But she's a princess, she has responsibilities to the entire kingdom. But she herself didnt say no, the servants had him removed by the gaurds. So technically she didn't say no. However he was panicking and distraught. So he's not thinking clearly. Especially when his father was fully encased in amber. Emotions run very high and he is 14 and oh the angst is high. I still hope they give him a redemption arc. Because there is still good in him. Just misguided by emotions.
She kinda said no. She told him she couldn’t help him. I know she had duties to the kingdom, so it’s not like she was just refusing to help, but it still felt kind of cold. The boy was begging for his dad’s life for goodness sakes and he didn’t have anyone else.

They may not get what he's doing. But they do care about his father as the leader. He could have also asked cass or Flynn for help. As i had stated in my post as well that emotions were going strong and he is still a child. (I do hope you saw that. I know i can get long winded.) But that being said as he is a very intelligent child. With a protective father. Its clear to see that he really hasn't developed that sense of danger or a sound thought of knowing when to stop. He has good intentions in everything he works on. This we know well. However, he will hear people point out the dangers or the risks. People will try to stop him because its too risky as it is. And he wont listen to them but will argue it and almost get himself or other nearly killed. He's extremely smart but also overly reckless. Which if he had just a smidge of caution and listened when people noticed danger. His experiments could have gone much better. And his father wouldnt have been trapped in amber.
While it's not Rapunzels fault, her negligence is very impactful. Rapunzel did not even insist on sending a servant to accompany him but instead watched silently as Varian was dragged out of the castle and thrown back out into the blizzard, now regarded as a criminal of the state for "attacking" her. After the blizzard passed, she took art classes. She did not check on him despite his clear distraught state. She didnt even really ask about his situation when HE went to meet her for the flower. She cares about Corona, that is clear. But she did nothing to support Varian, especially when he needed it most. To avoid this she needed to atleast reveal her good intentions to help him, instead of ignore or forget the pain he was in.
She really should've sent _someone_ to go with him tho. She didn't even stop the guards from dragging him away like some common peasant. Plus, as the queen...she could've just made someone else take over for her. Delegation is a thing. Basically, Rapunzel is just a really bad ruler. She's not cut out to be a queen.
I'm glad Varian is getting a little more screen time in the new season. I was thinking the other day about how many of the less interesting side characters have gotten a lot more screen time. I think if you made one of these with Shorty, for example, it would be noticeably longer and that's just kinda sad.
Its amazing to see how deeply they went in showing him actually going through the grieving process Denial: he refused to believe it happened and that he had any blame Bargaining: he used rapunzels mom to get her to use her hair to fix it Anger: when everything he tried failed all of his pent up rage exploded Depression: he was trapped in the prison left to remorse on his action and thats when he was tricked by the others Acceptance: he talked it out with rapunzel and he fully acknowledged that he messed up and wanted to fix it, and he did, and by doing that he then got his father back

I love Varian. His character is amazing and the coin flip change he has when his dad gets incased in the amber was also amazing. He went from a sweet, clumsy, nerd to a vengeful, hateful, nerd out of grief

Varian is hands down one of the best Disney villains in history. Well developed, original, likeable, multidimensional and you can fully understand his motives and even root for him in a way. He is never evil just for the sake of being evil (as a typical cartoon villain) - he has a clear, valid goal and if he's losing self-control, it's because of well justified anger and frustration. His character carried the whole series for me. He really deserved his own show.
He was going to get one but Disney decided to not go forward with the idea
Even in the start of season 3 when he comes back, and help to take over the kingdom, is not for evil sake, but to erase everyone's memory of what he did, and go back to being friend with rapunzel
He's also the youngest ever Disney villain! ❤
Varian's the kind of kid who would be your friend, then if someone hurts you, he personally makes it his goal to either hurt them back or just plain murder them, depending on how bad they hurt you.

Rudiger and Varian are so cute together though. I love how he interacts with him in the background of everything by allowing Rudiger to sit in his arms or on his shoulder.
At least this poor little baby isn’t completely alone.
It’s also really touching that when Varian was being arrested, Rudiger hopped on his shoulder and began stroking his cheek to try and calm him down.
Rudiger might by a loony tunes like jerk to other characters like Max, he is undying loyal and loving toward Varian.

I’ve theorised, and, well, in ‘day of the animals’ I thoroughly believe that varian is the one who takes the animals to save the gang from the magical prison, because varian DOES NOT believe in magic and likely still won’t, however he’d think there was a possibility of it existing. So no, I don’t think he is the old enemy, hell, it might be somebody from the movie. You never know, but that’s just what I thought, it’d be weird for him to take over the kingdom after basically 2 years of being in prison, 2 years of thinking to himself and thinking ‘is this really worth it?’ People change, and in 2 years almost? I believe varian wouldn’t dare taking over the kingdom. What would be his reasoning? His purpose for it? He doesn’t have one. The ‘dad’ excuse is an old flame long extinguished.

I just got into this show and I've realized that Varian is literally all of my favorite character types in one character: soft, fast talking, nerdy science boy + sassy sarcastic villain + has both a corruption and (later) a redemption arc. I literally just watch the show for him at this point 😅

6:04-THIS is when the show really got deep and earned a fanbase. Rapunzel is faced with a real-life issue, who to help. Her people, or one of her best friends. When we see Varian again, he reacts like any person his age might've. He did go over the extreme, but he's a kid with not as extreme, but some sort of attention rejection issue. He always has a need to please his father, and now that his chance was lost, he'll do anything to get his revenge on the people who wronged him.

She wanted to help. But she's a princess, she has responsibilities to the entire kingdom. But she herself didnt say no, the servants had him removed by the gaurds. So technically she didn't say no.
However he was panicking and distraught. So he's not thinking clearly. Especially when his father was fully encased in amber. Emotions run very high and he is 14 and oh the angst is high.
I still hope they give him a redemption arc. Because there is still good in him. Just misguided by emotions.
She kinda said no. She told him she couldn’t help him. I know she had duties to the kingdom, so it’s not like she was just refusing to help, but it still felt kind of cold. The boy was begging for his dad’s life for goodness sakes and he didn’t have anyone else.

As i had stated in my post as well that emotions were going strong and he is still a child. (I do hope you saw that. I know i can get long winded.)
But that being said as he is a very intelligent child. With a protective father.
Its clear to see that he really hasn't developed that sense of danger or a sound thought of knowing when to stop.
He has good intentions in everything he works on. This we know well. However, he will hear people point out the dangers or the risks. People will try to stop him because its too risky as it is. And he wont listen to them but will argue it and almost get himself or other nearly killed.
He's extremely smart but also overly reckless. Which if he had just a smidge of caution and listened when people noticed danger. His experiments could have gone much better. And his father wouldnt have been trapped in amber.
While it's not Rapunzels fault, her negligence is very impactful. Rapunzel did not even insist on sending a servant to accompany him but instead watched silently as Varian was dragged out of the castle and thrown back out into the blizzard, now regarded as a criminal of the state for "attacking" her. After the blizzard passed, she took art classes. She did not check on him despite his clear distraught state. She didnt even really ask about his situation when HE went to meet her for the flower. She cares about Corona, that is clear. But she did nothing to support Varian, especially when he needed it most. To avoid this she needed to atleast reveal her good intentions to help him, instead of ignore or forget the pain he was in.
She really should've sent _someone_ to go with him tho. She didn't even stop the guards from dragging him away like some common peasant. Plus, as the queen...she could've just made someone else take over for her. Delegation is a thing. Basically, Rapunzel is just a really bad ruler. She's not cut out to be a queen.

I was thinking the other day about how many of the less interesting side characters have gotten a lot more screen time. I think if you made one of these with Shorty, for example, it would be noticeably longer and that's just kinda sad.
This is how it’s supposed to be just varian.
Its amazing to see how deeply they went in showing him actually going through the grieving process
Denial: he refused to believe it happened and that he had any blame
Bargaining: he used rapunzels mom to get her to use her hair to fix it
Anger: when everything he tried failed all of his pent up rage exploded
Depression: he was trapped in the prison left to remorse on his action and thats when he was tricked by the others
Acceptance: he talked it out with rapunzel and he fully acknowledged that he messed up and wanted to fix it, and he did, and by doing that he then got his father back
