This woman had one of the greatest voices I've ever heard! She had a purity and solidity to her voice that made her stand alone. Her delivery was impeccable. Classy. When someone truly is a skilled and gifted singer, they don't always need to do acrobatics.
So many technically pure skilled vocalists from my parents and grandparents Era. It was born of a fusion of jazz, blues, Broadway, romantic ballads and Vaudeville showmanship . Keeley was one of those elegant lady chanteuses of her day. She was an actress in song making the lyrics alive with emotion. While vocal acrobatics do have their place, for her they were unnecessary and just a distraction from the intent of the composer. Keeley was a poet's best friend. No gimmicks, no fireworks, no clouds rising off the stage, no backup singers to disguise errors in a performance, and no soundtrack trickery to cleanse the air of offensive sounds. We miss the beautiful vocal presence of this sister of song 🎵 😢
Keely is a great singer. We saw her in Las Vegas in the 50s with Louie, Sam, and the Witnesses. We will never forget it. Love them all. Keep singing, Keely. We have your albums.
Wow! what a talent - even in her latter years and still with a fabulous voice lets see any of the young female singers today belt out a romantic tune like Keely
saw her in vegas with sam butera they were dynamite. What a voice she had! Even elderly she was better than anyone else. Her voice was perfect. And Samy's sax was unreal!
Why Isn't she listed among the greats? Keely Smith was extremely underrated, I mean mind-blowingly underrated if that's even a word lol, her voice puts me in a state of euphoria, she had perfect pitch and the ability to make a song a powerful emotional experience, she was not only an amazing singer/musician but she was art itself, she seems like the type of singer who could sing anything if she wanted to, her voice would apeal to anyone, Keely Smith was really something, thanks for blessing us with your beautiful and angelic voice, rest in peace.
Friends,THIS IS A SINGER!!!!!! Just effortless power and grace. No need to jump around and scream. I strive for this as an amateur singer,at age 51,and in my golf swing!!!!! Come to think of it,Keely was 51 here. Richard Rhoden
gran cantante..............................estilo ...elegancia...................y dominio del arte del canto y de las emociones.......................
I worked on this show which was called Juke Box Saturday Night when it aired on PBS as a fund raiser. It was shot at a hotel near Madison Square Garden.
Ladies and gentlemen, let the debating end. Keely Smith is the greatest female singer of all time!!!!!!!! Keely's voice is a perfect blend of power and grace under magnificent control. She has inspired me to sing publicly for the first time. Can anyone tell me how her health is? Richard Rhoden
I don't remember ever hearing her before. But tonight I was listening to "Radio Deluxe," the jazz radio program with John Pizzareli and Jessica Molaskey. When she came on, my ears perked up. How come I hadn't heard her before? So I had to do a TH-cam search. Full, rich sounding voice.
Heard her doing backup with Louis Prima singing Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody (highly recommend) and after hearing the small bits she sang wanted to hear her sing something solo. It was definitely worth the search finding this. 👍👍
I'm surprised she spoke so well of Louis Prima since their divorce was messy and in her own words they didn't speak to each other in their final months of marriage but still had to go on stage as if everything was fine.
HEY DON'T TELL ANYONE ITS CAUSE SHE HAD COUNT BASSY IN HER BACK POCKET IN FACT I BELIEVE SHE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR INTRO TO EACH OTHER SHE PLAYED WITH MANY TIMES WITH LOUIE IN THE JAZZ CLUBS I WOULD NT DOUBT THAT SHE CALLED HIM BY HIS REAL FIRST NAME TOGETHERNESS WAS THE THING FOR JAZZ BANDS & SINGERS IN THOSE DAYS OF BEING ON THE ROAD SO MUCH A GOOD COMMENT ABOUT SINATRA THOUGH U NEVER GET TO HIM TALK ABOUT HIS EARLY DAYS OF SIGNING IN ONE NIGHT STANDS WITH JAZZ PERFORMERS ITS A VERY RARE FOR HIM TO OPEN UP ABOUT HIS PAST BEGINNINGS BUT THAT WAS FRANK EVEN FOR HIM TO GIVE THANKS TO DEAN FOR LIFTY HIS CAREER WHEN IT WAS AT ITS WORST SORRY TO SAY THEY ARE GONE NOW & SADLY MISSED BY ALL. 🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

If anybody knows the whereabouts of Nelson Riddle's original manuscript arrangements for Keely's albums, I Wish You Love, Swingin' Pretty and Little Girl Blue, please get in touch. I believe they are in private hands/collection, but I want to eliminate the possibility they have been destroyed. Thanks

She was 55 then and sounded as if she was still in her twenties... easily one of the best singing voices of her generation.

@Chevy well said. It’s a travesty when they talk of the greatest I never hear her mentioned. Her version of My Reverie is incredible and unmatched.
One of the greatest voices of the golden age of music.
Keely is a great singer. We saw her in Las Vegas in the 50s with Louie, Sam, and the Witnesses. We will never forget it. Love them all. Keep singing, Keely. We have your albums.
This woman sings!!!!!!!! I first became aware of her astounding talent when I was child in the 1950's. SHE moves me!!!!
I just discovered Keely Smith and I can't get enough of her.
Beyond her beautiful voice, she was a gracious woman, thankful for her audiences and all good things in her past. She is very missed.
Wow! what a talent - even in her latter years and still with a fabulous voice
lets see any of the young female singers today belt out a romantic tune like Keely
JME
Impossible..
@steve, they can’t because they don’t know how to hit high notes without screaming.
I would listen to her read the phone book lol. Love her.
love singers who just stand there & sing!! no frailing about just singing - and Keely has the voice to do just that- beautiful
I hear you. Now you have to watch singers twerk their asses with their asses facing the audience.
This gal could sing!
One of the greatest singers of all time.
Keely was one of the greatest swing singers ever. I saw her in concert in the 1980s. It was one happy night for me.
Ah, what a voice. One of the classiest singers of them all! Thanks so much!
tholu67 that's for sure rip
So sad that she passed away today. What a gorgeous, smooth voice she had. Too many fantastic singers have gone.
What a terrible shame the production of this performance wasn't taken more seriously. She was just amazing. I just love you Keely.
saw her in vegas with sam butera they were dynamite. What a voice she had! Even elderly she was better than anyone else. Her voice was perfect. And Samy's sax was unreal!
Such an amazing singer, even in her later years she was still able to belt out those notes. RIP lovely lady.
Her intonation and timbre were so good
RIP Keely Smith. Great voice and a strong performer
Awwww, may she rest in peace. Thanks, Keely!! What a voice!!

Captivating , such honesty in a voice . Personal, Controls the emotions. Spellbound
Beautiful voice and especially her vibrato technique (self taught).
Keely was a special talent her interpretations gave out a different level of emotions. Up there with any of the greatest.

So fantastic she was, so sorry I missed the boat. I so wish I would have discovered her sooner.
Keely Smith such beautiful and such underrated voice!
She sounds so great!
Thank you for posting this, Alan. I saw her briefly, strictly by chance, in a Las Vegas casino lounge in 1993.
Saw her in NYC while we ate; we were hearing one of the best voices in the business. Early 2000s.
I remember watching this show at the time.... and being just knocked-out by this performance...
Show stopping performance...many thanks for posting
Keely!!!!! Fantastic! Love this lady!
I've been listening to her debut solo album for the past month. Incredible.
I have an albun from the 50s she sounds the SAME - natural talent!
Heard her doing backup with Louis Prima singing Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody (highly recommend) and after hearing the small bits she sang wanted to hear her sing something solo.

Keely Smith was so talented with an impeccable voice.
Underrated.. She was great.
I remember watching this on pbs. The first time I ever saw her on tv was a game show called Pay Cards.
A really beautiful, blessed lady.❤
Keely Smith has a fantastic voice. A first class singer.
She is very humble and credits Louis Prima but She was a tremendous talent on her own She had an amazing voice!
I'm surprised she spoke so well of Louis Prima since their divorce was messy and in her own words they didn't speak to each other in their final months of marriage but still had to go on stage as if everything was fine.
One of the greatest ever
To me.... the best female singers of that time era was Keely Smith and Edie Gorme

Wow, so incredible. She sounds fantastic and what orchestra is that? They are on. I Wish You Love sounded just like the album version. She's so good.
パワフルなのに威圧感がなく、聞く側なのになぜか自分も歌っている気分になるのが不思議。
Too bad she and Louis had to divorce. I loved them together
Sexiest voice around!
惑星のひとつに例えたら彼女はJupiterだ。
A big lady
she never did change that awful hair
