I would have been delighted to attend a class and see so many boxes! I didn’t even realize anyone would have more than one! I took the idea of the masala dabba and use it for my whole spices, but lately I’ve had the idea to make a box for each cuisine I like to cook, like Indian, Japanese, Moroccan, Nigerian, Lebanese, Cajun, TexMex, etc. I’m gonna need a bigger kitchen….❤
Thank you soso much I learned a lot from you today! Hope I can figure out how to buy a Tin and spices from you!🎉 ❤I just subbed l! I’m so Happy I found you today!❤🎉🦋🖼️🌺🤗🌹
I need to get one of these spice tins because I've been making curries a lot lately and now I'm just like, where's this and that, oh here it is. And this would be way more convenient. I would add to one: cayenne (its my go-to red chili powder), ground coriander, coriander seeds, turmeric, cumin seeds, garam masala, and bay leaves. To another, I'd add cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, black peppercorns, chili flakes, and star anise. This is because I'd also be using this for Masala Chai as well as cooking, so I'd want it handy but separate. I really have to get myself a couple of these tins!
I love that you know exactly what you want to add! I love my dabbas. I think the number one tip for making cooking more enjoyable, is to make the process more beautiful. And these dabbas certainly help that.
Mine sit on top of each other, so yes you can definitely stack them. But these ones that I have, at least, don't have ridges or edges that are made for stacking. So I make sure to move them and place them carefully.
I learned how to cook because I moved from a city with Indian food to a town with none. My wife calls me eccentric because I now have two dabba’s (I haven’t let her know I’ve plans for a 3rd) I was raised in the south but not Louisiana USA (meaning food basically had no flavor until I moved out and discovered flavor on my own.) There is a book that makes learning spice SUPER easy called “The Science of Spice” and until I was able to identify spices by sight I cheated and had a map of my first dabba taped to my upper cabinet.
That's such a good tip! I often get students as me how they identify spice once it's out of the packet... I find that necessity is a powerful motivator, particularly with a skill so complex and slow to learn as masala. Thank you for sharing your story :) And I say... get that third dabba!

Are masala dabba stackable when you store multiple of them?

I just counted my spices. I gave up when I hit 150. Most are stacked alphabetically in racks in my pantry. I think I might consider therapy.
😂 love it
