      Kidd fell into the superstar trap. Just because your good at one thing should mean you get to skip steps on the next. With the combination of failures in his early coaching career and seeing the lakers magically develop a good coaching team while he was there showed how to properly curate a staff not only you like, but maximize your players best abilities.

      Great observation. He leads when playing well and elevates everyone's game, but he also leads when he's not playing well. And instead of other guys elevating their game to carry Chris they all just lie down and get kicked. Mikal Bridges exploded one game going for 30 points, I was like where has that been? Why don't we see other guys pick it up and play well when someone else is down? Very disappointed in my Suns in that Mavs series.

      In a sport where most everyone is at least 6'5 being 7' isnt the most important part. Especially not in current basketball, with all the outside shooting. That has been shown time and again. 7 inches in height (which dont always translate to wingspan) dont make up for less agility, less basketball IQ, less smart positioning, worse predicting where the ball falls in a rebound situation. All that being said, usually you dont want to be No1 Draft pick, because if you are great, nobody is surprised, and when you aint, everyone thinks you're a bust especially with a No3 pick like Luka / Trae. But we should all sit back and relax. Ayton is young, he still has potential to grow as a role player and it would probably be good for him to join another team where he gets coached and utilised differently.

    I believe Ayton is still decent he was just never going to reach his full potential on the Suns. They had Booker already as their #1 and I doubt they planned on playing through him a lot through the post and they don't seem to want him to shoot outside of the paint for some reason. For example he's 12 of 35 from 3 (34%) from his lone season in college, in the NBA he's 14 of 56 from 3 (25%) in 4 seasons in the NBA. He's not really going to improve as a shooter if you don't allow him to shoot and yes there's potential since he shoots 75% from the line for his career.

    The thing that I think is interesting is that since 2000 4 teams have one multiple championships Lakers (5), Spurs (3), Heat (3), Warriors (3). The Pistons, Celtics, Mavs, Cavs, Raptors and Bucks have all won it once. We need to acknowledge that the Lakers and Heat multiple wins are from different "eras".
    But I think the real question is why do some players just never make it or only make it once. Is it them? Is it team construction? If I look at active players right now that are All Stars and have not won (and in some cases not come close) it would include Harden, Lillard, Carmelo, and (as of this writing) Butler.
    One of those players (Harden) is even worse at the prime time games than Chris Paul. So maybe it is a combination of things related to the person and the teams they are particularly how the team is constructed.

    • @blueredlover1060
      @blueredlover1060 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's ultimately 50-50 or somewhere around there. Dame is almost case and point for roster construction, though. He performed when he called upon, but the team around him has folded in dramatic fashion. CP3 and Harden are almost case and point the opposite. They'll fold and have the team around them fold as a result. Jimmy Butler is in a more nuanced position though. He has folded and seen the team pick him up, but he's also just seen the team around him fold.

    What's wild is in the last 4 games of the Dallas series the efficiency was still there. He combined for 18/36 (50%fg) so it's not like he was missing an unusual amount or they had him locked up. He just didn't shoot as much in those games.
