- In 1960, Prince Andrew, who celebrates his 61st birthday today, became the first child born to a reigning monarch in a hundred years.
Not since his great-great-great aunt, Princess Beatrice, was born to Queen Victoria in 1857 had a ruling king or queen given birth.
While Prince Charles and Princess Anne are both older than Andrew, they were born before the Queen's accession in 1952.
