In the end money meant nothing to him anymore. He finally had someone to love, and someone who loved him back. The movie gives to the audience the impression that he never had that. His parents were killed when he was a kid, he then joined the army and was trying to get away from that hellhole. He only knew pain, sadness and violence. He then hears about the big diamond and thinks that that is his ticket out of there. But he meets Maddy and falls for her. In the end he gave up more than just the diamond, he gave up the life he could've had with her, which was his biggest treasure at that point. Can you people imagine what was going on inside his head during his final moments? He knew he was not going to make it, knew he had lost his only true opportunity at happiness, but was happy nonetheless for at least having met the woman of his life. Amazing movie. 10/10 for me.
Fuckin' spoiler!!:((( I haven't seen great gatsby and django unchained yet but I was planning to do it but now you spoiled two coming movie experiences for me :((((
No, you cut out the best part! That moment when he touched the red dirt in his bloody hands...one of the most beautiful moments I've ever seen in a movie
So amazing watching Danny's character evolve throughout the arc of the movie as the central protagonist. He starts off believing he does not belong in Africa and has long since given up hope on the place. But by this scene, Danny accepts his role in this African struggle that he'd spent his life supposedly trying to flee. Instead of continuing to run from himself (and the problems he had contributed to as an arms dealer), Danny becomes aware of an even greater opportunity than the huge diamond he's been chasing. He is in a unique position to help tell a story that could end a lot of human suffering. As destiny calls, Danny embraces this fate. And instead of believing that God had abandoned Africa, Danny chooses to help do God's will at the expense of the diamond, the woman he loves and even his life. His final words of being exactly where he is supposed to be are poetically inspiring, yet somber. Just a brilliant movie!
@@MajorMlgNoob Yes, agreed. I have no doubt it's better then Revenant... it was almost a pitty Oscar, he had a lot of better performances... I don't know if it's better than Wolf of Wall Street or Django, probably not. (Who gives Titanic as an example? can't stop laughing)
I am thinking back in 1998 if we ever thought Leo would play a part like this. wow. back in the day we just thought he was just a pretty face. Man hes one of the greatest actors of our time.
Damn shame what happened to his home, the real life Danny's are absolutely heart wrenching. We're falling victim to similar tactics in the states now. Rhodesians never die, could have truly been something great and special. Now it's been turned over to kaffs and went the way that usually does....
Danny knows his imminent death is coming and he can't bring that diamond with him, so he has nothing to hide. He tells Solomon the truth and is willing to everything good he can before he goes, and tell Maddy how he truly feels.
Main thing here is that He is African too, he is not black, but he was born in Africa, his parents were there born too, they both died in terrific circumstances, his whole life there were fighting in wars and he died like a good soldier which he becomes by helping Solomon.. And he die like a hero...
Leonardo DiCaprio , Daniel Day Lewis , Robert De Niro , Al Pacino , Jake Gyllenhaal , Joaquin Phoenix , Marlon Brando , Sean Penn , Eddie Redmanye , Jared Leto ( Jared leto actually Is an outstanding actor in my opinion , well deserved Oscar he got for Dallas buyers club ) , Edward Norton , Morgan Freeman , Michael Caine , Heath Ledger ( RIP ) , Russell Crowe , Denzel Washington , Gary Oldman and Joe Pesci . This is not just a film about diamonds and the awful life in africa, but the character of Archer teaches a lot about meaning and his fate is pretty sad but also heroic
Awesome movie. Awesome actor. And.....Leo donates millions to help the planet. People with that kind of money should do as much as they can for others, animals, and the world. Money talks. 1❤
Reminds me of the scene when Niel Macauley (Robert de Niro) leaves Eady (Amy Brenaman) when he sees Vincent Hannah (Al Pacino) at parking of the Airport Marquee Hotel. Breaks your heart.
Blood Diamond gave me a lot of the same feelings as I had watching Heat. There's something definitely Michael Mann-ish about the film, and that just makes it even better.
A key moment for Danny Archer is when he's asked by m'lad at the school whether he thinks "people are born inherently good", he answers "no", and m'lad agrees explaining it's the things people do that make them good, and it's never too late to start. Great film.

I love this movie so much. I know for a fact I would do exactly what he does. By the way that means I know I would be a scum bag until the last hurdle and then go out like a g
I agree with everything being said about both actors. I’d like to add how wrecking Jennifer’s performance is as her character realizes Danny’s dying. We slowly but surely see her having to drop trying to understand what happenened in order to have time to say goodbye. Added to the replies, acting, and the music…
This ninja knows how to die. Every movie, it's like they call him with a role and he's like i'am I gonna die? Yup! I'll take it. He love dying I guess he knows that why we call him the best because he always knows how to leave us in tears
I learned so much about the meaning of Christ's cross in this film. I learned what the proximity of death means. What does it mean to arrive pure at the great gate.

Maybe...the only one
Good Irish accent
When she says why aren’t you bringing it yourself, that really put the nail in the coffin for me. Genuinely started tearing up cause he can’t.
Also props to the actress for her voice cracking with emotion, that cant be an easy thing to do.
Me too 😢

Watch his performance in basketball diaries, a criminally underrated film. Arguably his best work in his younger days.
never get tired of watching this particular scene
Especially jenifer conoly acting. Her voice shows how much bass and sterio to be up and down..literally then crying
leo's acting actually
This scene always hits me right in the feels.
Why does Leo always die in most of his films??? Is it written in his contract? "I must die in at least one film every few years."
Because the Mummy predicted it, that's why =P
He didn't die in the wolf of Wall Street , the revenant , the aviator , the basketball diaries , this boy's life and gangs of New York .

Neil Tomlinson revolutionary road too
